Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 699: Chapter 700: It Will Be Alright

He could tell now, this was Grandpa Meng’s way of showing affection for someone, holding onto her and chatting away like someone with verbal diarrhea. Why would he act like the last time, when he handed the phone to Du Jinruo and let her talk to him?

There clearly wasn’t much he had wanted to say to Du Jinruo, was there?

But now that he had encountered Chiang Xiao, the old man wouldn’t even consider his longing for his little fiancée after not seeing her for some time, staunchly refusing to give them any chance for some alone time!

Resentment.

Meng Xinian’s resentment lasted all night.

Old Meng talked with Chiang Xiao the whole night. He went from talking about her grandpa to her mom and then to her, almost as if he was going to dig up everything about her.

Chiang Xiao didn’t hold anything back, telling the truth about everything.

She didn’t care if Old Meng would look down on her background or not.

However, Old Meng, after listening to her story, couldn’t help but feel pity for her. ”You’ve really had it tough. It’ll be better in the future. Let this stinky boy take good care of you!”

After saying this, he reached out and gave Meng Xinian a forceful pat on the back, ”Did you hear that? Little is not to be taken lightly. You need to treat her twice as nicely from now on! Otherwise, I won’t let it go so easily!”

”Old man, do I even need you to say that? What if I treasure her in the palm of my hand?” Meng Xinian spoke, fixing his gaze steadily on Chiang Xiao.

Chiang Xiao’s heartbeat couldn’t help but skip again.

Tyrant Meng was breaking the rules again!

Was this a veiled declaration of love?

But she hadn’t grown up, hadn’t grown up, hadn’t grown up yet!

Suddenly, the air was filled with pink bubbles, even thick-skinned Old Meng noticed something was up. He burst into laughter, grabbed Meng Xinian’s hand, then grabbed Chiang Xiao’s hand and placed hers in his, clapping Meng Xinian’s hand over it.

”Age doesn’t matter, you two are engaged. Back in the day, I also married Meng Xi’s grandma when I was fifteen. No matter what, you two need to take good care of each other in the future, always keep each other in mind. That’s enough. I wasn’t there when you got engaged, so consider tonight a makeup for that.”

Meng Xinian held Chiang Xiao’s hand, looking intently at her.

Chiang Xiao felt like a deer caught in headlights, completely unexpected Grandpa Meng’s move. Her hand twitched slightly, and she felt Meng Xinian immediately grasp it even tighter, making her face heat up.

All of a sudden, Meng Xinian felt like Chiang Xiao understood everything.

How could she be just a thirteen-year-old girl?

Her reaction was clearly that of a grown-up girl who understood everything.

”Grandpa, we’ll be good,” he said in a husky voice, very seriously, then turned to Chiang Xiao and asked, ”Right, Chiang Xiaoxiao?”

Chiang Xiao didn’t want to answer, but Meng Xinian’s current gaze gave her no escape.

Old Meng was also watching her, forcing her to nod with a muffled, ”Mhm...”

A smile curled on Meng Xinian’s lips.

”Good, good, good. I’ve finally fulfilled this wish in my lifetime. Grandpa is happy, very happy!” Old Meng laughed out loud.

After the meal, Chiang Xiao declined the offer to stay over at the Meng Family’s.

Old Meng, knowing even Meng Xinian was refusing to come home, just sighed without insisting further.

”Alright then, I’ll head back first. Xinian will arrange everything for you. How about we all have lunch together tomorrow?”

Chiang Xiao had initially planned to rush back early in the morning, but the hopeful look in Old Meng’s eyes made it hard for her to refuse, so she reluctantly nodded.

Delighted, Old Meng happily went back, while Meng Xinian took Chiang Xiao for a walk, under the pretext of aiding digestion.

At the end of September in Capital City, the night had already started to feel a bit nippy, but for the two of them there was no chill. That pink, bubbly atmosphere seemed to linger and had not yet cleared away.
