Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 698: Chapter 699: The Gaze Too Intense

That was already a pretty stern statement.

Du Jinruo also struggled to maintain her composure, her eyes reddening slightly as she said hoarsely to Old Meng, ”Grandfather, my foot hurts a little, you go ahead first, I’ll go see a doctor.”

”Miss Du, I remember telling you before that he is my grandfather, not yours. If you need to address him, please add the surname. Otherwise, it seems too intimate, and others might really think we are siblings!”

Meng Xinian said without any expression.

”You kid...” Old Meng’s face also showed he couldn’t quite keep up appearances. Seeing Du Jinruo’s reddened eyes, he wanted to give her a way out, but when he saw Chiang Xiao nearby, the words to scold Meng Xinian just couldn’t come out.

Chiang Xiao’s eyes were too clear, everything was written there.

Old Meng could also tell, she didn’t like the notion of them as siblings.

Hmm, at this moment, Old Meng guiltily thought, he wasn’t a good man after all, and of course he could only choose to stand on the side of his own people first. If the granddaughter-in-law didn’t like it, of course he couldn’t keep talking!

No matter how good Xiao Du was, she was still an outsider.

In terms of closeness, of course, the granddaughter-in-law was closer.

He could only apologize to Xiao Du then.

So, with guilt in his heart, Old Meng’s gaze flickered, too embarrassed to meet Du Jinruo’s eyes again.

Du Jinruo also had her pride, and couldn’t take it anymore. She turned her head and ran away.

Old Meng watched her retreating back and murmured, ”It looks like Xiao Du’s foot is not that bad after all.” She had just said her foot was hurting and she wanted to see a doctor, but can you run that fast with a sore foot?

Pfft.

Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but laugh.

Suddenly, she thought the old man was quite adorable.

Although she was quite angry with Old Meng’s behavior before.

Seeing her laugh, Old Meng immediately put Du Jinruo out of his mind and pulled Chiang Xiao along, repeatedly saying, ”Granddaughter-in-law, it wasn’t appropriate to call you that with so many people around earlier. Don’t be mad at Grandpa, okay? When did you get here? How come this kid didn’t mention it? You’re even more handsome than I imagined, it’s a bit of a loss to be matched with Xinian, this lad! But it’s alright, if this boy ever bullies you in the future, Grandpa will stand by your side and support you, how about that?”

He said all this in one breath, leaving Chiang Xiao a bit overwhelmed.

Meng Xinian, on the other hand, sighed, ”Old man, what are you joking about? Can I bully her?”

It would be more accurate to say Chiang Xiaoxiao bullied him.

He almost died from her torment last time.

For the first time in his life, he understood that mental torment could indeed kill a person.

Chiang Xiao gave him a sidelong glance.

Hmph.

Meng Xinian watched her clear, limpid eyes and felt an itchy feeling in his heart, filled with an indescribable sentiment.

In the end, he could only reach out and tousle her hair.

He had not expected her to come.

But he guessed she must have received a notification from Chu Liang, was worried about him, and so she didn’t hesitate to rush over.

From G Province to Capital City, such a long distance, and she came all the way because she was worried about him.

This girl, this girl, how could she make him like her so much?

Chiang Xiao suddenly felt the warmth of Meng Xinian’s gaze was too intense, making it hard for her to sustain it. Her heartbeat skipped a beat, and she quickly averted her gaze.

”Granddaughter-in-law, are you hungry? Come on, Grandpa will take you to eat! I’ll take you to eat the most famous roast duck in Capital City, how about that?”

Along the way, Old Meng kept talking to Chiang Xiao, giving Meng Xinian hardly any chances to interject.
