Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 680: Chapter 681: Why Not Just Rob

She must have heard it wrong!

”Forty.” Chiang Xiao repeated the sentence.

Even He Jin was startled this time, his eyes widening as he looked at Chiang Xiao.

”Hey, little sister, taking advantage of the situation to demand more money is not right!” the woman said to Chiang Xiao with righteous indignation. ”Although I don’t lack these forty bucks, I’m not a sucker! If this box of pastries really costs forty, would you be so generous as to give it to He Jin?”

Chiang Xiao replied calmly, ”Hmm, if he hadn’t sold paintings for me for free, indeed, I wouldn’t be so generous.”

Pfft.

That was quite blunt.

He Jin couldn’t contain his laughter again. He glanced at the woman and said gleefully, ”Wu Xiayue, did you hear that? If you can’t afford it, you’d better return the stuff! Why are you holding onto something you can’t afford so tightly?”

Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but give him a look.

He Jin really was quite mean. He fully understood the psychology of the girl named Wu Xiayue, and he was aware that the desserts were expensive, yet he spoke to her like that. He was clearly using a reverse psychology trick.

But anyway, buying it was no loss.

She didn’t feel guilty at all about the price she had set for her pastries.

As expected, Wu Xiayue didn’t take the bait. Upon hearing He Jin’s words, she immediately pulled out four Big Union bills from her wallet, shoved them in front of Chiang Xiao, and said through gritted teeth, ”Who can’t afford it? I really don’t believe it. How could any pastry be so precious to cost forty? How many are in there? Ten? If the taste is so bad that I can’t swallow even one piece, you’ll have a problem with me!”

Upon hearing her say that, He Jin became curious about the box of pastries.

”You talk too much, no one is forcing you to buy, you can just say no! Whether it tastes good or not is your business!”

”What’s wrong with you, He Jin? You always have to be against me!”

Wu Xiayue wrinkled her nose at He Jin and made a ghost face before tearing off the Cease Talisman Diagram a bit violently, and opened the box.

When she saw there were only four pastries inside, her hand trembled, and she turned abruptly to Chiang Xiao, ”Ten yuan each? Why don’t you go rob someone!”

”I have no interest in robbery.” Chiang Xiao replied serenely, provoking yet another urge to laugh in He Jin.

Wu Xiayue huffed, picked up a green, shell-shaped pastry with disdain, and said, ”It’s so tiny, and it’s green, what is it?”

She had never seen a green pastry like this before, and there was a layer of powdery substance on top. But for some reason, it actually looked rather appetizing!

”This is made with tea powder, and that layer on top is the finest tea leaves ground into powder.”

”Tea powder?” Wu Xiayue frowned. ”Wouldn’t that be very bitter and astringent? Can it be tasty?”

He Jin chimed in, ”That’s just because you have no experience. Our ancestors in ancient times had already used tea powder to make various foods, and poets have even written poems in praise of it.”

He glanced at the small box of pastries, swiftly picked up another piece of the tea powder pastry, and stuffed it into his mouth. ”I wasn’t too keen on eating them before, but now I’ve got an appetite. Let’s consider it your treat... hmm?”

He Jin hadn’t finished his sentence before he froze.

The pastry in his mouth released a burst of sweet fragrance that conquered his taste buds all at once!

And as he reached out to snatch it, Wu Xiayue had already popped the pastry in her hand into her mouth without resistance.
