Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 40: Chapter 34: Stepping on the Tiger’s Tail

Lawrence Winters loved eating steamed lobsters.

Ever since he attended a lobster feast abroad with Nick Zeller, he had developed a deep affection for lobsters.

When it came to texture, lobsters were worlds apart from crayfish.

Of course, they weren’t even the same species, so forcing a comparison was inappropriate.

Lawrence Winters and Sarah Saunders were sitting quite close to each other.

The two young girls were of similar age, and although they had their disagreements in the past, the recent incidents with Lawrence’s aunt’s family and the mention of the ”fraudster” had fostered a desire in Sarah Saunders to confide.

Quietly peeling the lobster shell and imitating Lawrence’s way of extracting the delicious lobster meat, she whispered while eating, ”Cousin, is it true that car is really fake?”

”Absolutely true, it’s fake,” Lawrence murmured, placing the peeled lobster meat onto a small plate.

Seeing the troubled expression on Sarah Saunders’ face, Lawrence asked, ”Let me ask you, do you have that kind of relationship with him? Did he deceive you for money?”

He was directly questioning whether she had been seduced or swindled.

Lawrence thought that since Sarah was not yet eighteen, if that man dared to seduce her, he should be sent directly to jail.

Sarah Saunders’ face turned red and then white. Hesitating for a while, she whispered, ”We haven’t known each other long and haven’t... you know... done that. But he said he needed to rotate business capital and borrowed some money from my mom. I don’t know how much exactly.”

Lawrence Winters clasped his forehead.

Turns out she hadn’t been seduced, which meant the man came prepared.

Sarah Saunders was young, inexperienced, and easily deceived, which wasn’t surprising.

But even Lucy Winters, an adult, got duped...

After contemplating for a moment, he asked, ”Is he still in River City?”

Sarah Saunders quickly nodded, ”My mom originally wanted to bring him along for New Year’s Eve dinner today, and he was eager to meet the eldest uncle too... But my dad said there’d be a chance to invite him when our family hosts a dinner later. Today is a family New Year’s Eve dinner, and it’s not appropriate to invite outsiders...”

Lawrence knew that in the second aunt’s family, only the second uncle had some common sense.

Unfortunately, he was too honest and had been stuck at the lower level at work, unable to move up.

But with his personality, staying at the lower level was more peaceful, with no worries about basic needs.

After meticulously finishing a steamed lobster, Lawrence straightened up and looked calmly at Sarah Saunders, who was watching him anxiously, and asked, ”Do you trust me?”

Sarah Saunders: ”...”

Truly worth being a Heavenly Master.

This ”trust me and everything will be fine” aura was really something uncanny!

Sarah Saunders’ knees went weak; she wanted to kneel!

”I trust you, I do!” Sarah Saunders gritted her teeth; at this moment, she trusted Nick Zeller and Lawrence Winters more.

”Really?” Lawrence coldly glanced at her, ”You must know that most people believe ’It’s better to tear down ten temples than ruin one marriage.’ By saying this, I’m actually prepared for you to bear a grudge against me.”

Sarah Saunders secretly glanced at her mother, Lucy Winters, who was buried in her meal, and whispered hurriedly, ”Cousin, to be honest, that guy may have a striking appearance, a luxury car, and is generous with money, but I... still feel there’s some barrier.”

”Barrier?” Lawrence was surprised, ”You’ve already gotten engaged, and you still feel there’s a barrier?”

”The engagement wasn’t my decision...” Sarah Saunders muttered, rolling her eyes in her mother’s direction, ”Don’t you know there’s a type of fiancé your mom thinks is your fiancé?”

”I’m so young and haven’t known him long, how much love could there be?”

”My mom saw his good conditions and worried about missing this village’s temple, so she was more enthusiastic than me in arranging this engagement...”

Lawrence understood and shook his head with a chuckle, whispering, ”Trying to make up for what’s lacking...”

”What did you say?”

Lawrence said nothing more.

Many parents are like this, trying to make up for or avoid the regrets or lessons of their own lives in their children’s.

The lesson of Lucy Winters’ life might be not listening to her parents, marrying for so-called ”love” to a man whose conditions were inferior to hers.

Seeing that Lawrence seemed to have a solution, Sarah Saunders nudged him and whispered, ”Cousin, can you help me... you know, we didn’t have much money to begin with, and if he’s really a fraud, I... my family...”

Lawrence understood what she meant, gently patting her hand, and softly said, ”As long as you don’t blame me, I’ll help you vent this anger.”

”Hmm, hmm, hmm!” Sarah Saunders shook her head vigorously, indicating she wouldn’t blame him.

Lawrence glanced at the feasting Lucy Winters, knowing that no matter what, this second aunt wouldn’t be pleased.

He took out his phone and briefly recapped the situation to Nick Zeller, adding his own thoughts.

Nick Zeller, holding a lobster claw in one hand, glanced at his phone with the other.

He chuckled and nodded towards Lawrence.

Indicating his agreement with Lawrence’s approach.

Lawrence gave him a sweet smile and turned to Sarah Saunders, ”Go tell your fiancé to come over for the New Year’s Eve dinner.”

”Huh?” Sarah Saunders never expected Lawrence would actually want her to invite that ”fraud” for New Year’s Eve dinner!

”Didn’t you say he was a fraud?!”

Lawrence gave her a slight smile, raising the glass of corn juice in his hand.

Under the red lanterns in the private room, he resembled a medieval witch holding a crystal ball for divination, full of indescribable confidence and majesty.

Sarah Saunders murmured twice, thinking that Lawrence, only two years older, learned so much poise from the eldest uncle, it was no wonder the eldest uncle made so much money from geomancy.

She took out her phone and told her parents, ”Dad, mom, I’ll ask Benjamin Winchester to join us for the New Year’s Eve dinner.”

Martin Saunders quickly stopped her, ”We’re not family; it’s better not to. Besides, he’s not an honest man...”

Lucy Winters, thinking of the money she lent Benjamin Winchester, felt anxious and looked at Nick Zeller for help, ”Big brother, I... I lent him fifty thousand yuan...”

Nick Zeller snorted, took a leisurely sip of wine, and said, ”I know, isn’t this to help you get your money back?”

”Ah?! Oh! That’s great! Thanks, big brother! Thank you!” Lucy Winters and Martin Saunders stood up together, almost bowing ninety degrees with joy towards Nick Zeller.

Nick Zeller didn’t even look at them, waving them to sit down, ”Sit down, sit. Later, don’t say anything and just watch Lawrence. Got it?”

”Lawrence?” Lucy Winters was greatly disappointed, thinking Nick Zeller would stand up for her, how could it be Lawrence?

”She’s just a young girl, can she handle it?” Lucy Winters frowned, looking at Lawrence.

Martin Saunders was also embarrassed and said quickly, ”That man, who knows where he came from, what if he’s quite bad? Wouldn’t letting Lawrence handle him cause... trouble for Lawrence?”

Nick Zeller smiled and nodded.

This brother-in-law of his didn’t have much capability, but his heart was pure gold.

He always had an extra kindness and respect for good people.

”Don’t worry, Martin. Lawrence is a Heavenly Master. If we were afraid of trouble, I wouldn’t have led him into this profession,” Nick Zeller raised his hand slightly, speaking to Sarah Saunders, ”Call him.”

Then he looked at Lawrence, ”Lawrence, can you predict if this person will show up tonight?”

Lawrence smiled and nodded, taking out three copper coins and tossing them onto the table.

He tossed them six times, producing a hexagram, ”The Eleventh Hexagram of the I Ching, Peace. Upper Heaven, Lower Lake. Treading on the tail of a tiger, it doesn’t bite, and prosperity follows. It means we’re stepping on the tiger’s tail, but the tiger won’t bite us. So he will definitely come tonight and will obediently cough up what he’s consumed.”

Nick Zeller burst out laughing, clapping, ”Good, good, good! That’s our Lawrence! Not only can you predict, but your luck is crucial too!—— In this line of work, the most important thing isn’t talent, it’s luck!”
