The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 346: Chapter 346: Is This the Only Purpose?

Kuno Hiroo heard this and laughed awkwardly. ”Ye Feng, I’ve noticed you’ve gotten much better at joking around since you got married!”

Ye Feng raised an eyebrow. ”Is it funny?”

Kuno Hiroo shook his head. ”Not funny, but humorous.”

Han Xiaorui was exasperated. ”Kuno Hiroo, just say it. What do you want? It’s getting late. Let’s get this over with, eat, and then I have to put the kids to bed! But let me warn you first, all the fish I could send you have already been sent. There are absolutely no more. Even if you offer a higher price, the answer is no.”

’I can’t possibly sell the newly laid fish eggs to Kuno Hiroo, can I?’

Kuno Hiroo waved his hand. ”It’s not about ornamental fish. I want to import a few dogs.”

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui was taken aback. ”What kind of dogs?”

Kuno Hiroo replied, ”The ones you raise. They’re very smart, and I like them a lot. If you’re willing to export them, I’m willing to pay a high price.”

Han Xiaorui shook her head. ”There are so many dogs out there, why would you think of importing Hua Country’s native dogs? Besides, with all the breeds in the world, don’t you Japanese look down your noses at things from Hua Country?”

Kuno Hiroo smiled, then pulled out a newspaper and handed it to Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng. ”My office in Shencheng subscribes to many newspapers. I saw this news after I arrived today.”

Ye Feng raised an eyebrow. ”It’s probably an exaggeration. Don’t pay it too much mind.”

Kuno Hiroo shook his head. ”No, it’s not an exaggeration. I recognize this dog; it’s from your home. Japan has been developing for many years now. Whether it’s per capita or total economic output, we far surpass Hua Country.”

”While capital brings prosperity, it inevitably brings all sorts of dirty dealings. Compared to the sex industry, the harm from drugs is even greater. Beneath a seemingly safe and secure society, the drug crisis is severe.”

”My uncle works in the police system. He wants to advance his career, which means he needs some achievements, so I want to help him. Importing highly effective drug-sniffing dogs is essential.”

Han Xiaorui finally understood. Kuno Hiroo had seen the dogs she’d raised before.

”Those twenty dogs have already been transferred to the public security bureau. The only ones left at home are Dahuang and Heizi. Give up. I won’t give them to you,” Han Xiaorui refused.

Ye Feng nodded. ”Dahuang and Heizi have become important members of our family. Give up.”

Kuno Hiroo replied, ”With police dogs this good, Hua Country will certainly promote breeding them. They might even have Ms. Han research police dog breeding. If there’s a breeding base, could you prioritize selling some to us?”

Han Xiaorui was stunned. ”We just discussed establishing a police dog base today, and you already know? How do you know so much about us?”

Kuno Hiroo smiled. ”It’s not exactly a state secret. You can find out just by asking around. And as you know, many Japanese companies have invested here in Shencheng.”

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui gritted her teeth. ”I have to say, this is really infuriating!”

Kuno Hiroo smiled. ”There’s no need for that. We provide technology and capital; you need technology and capital. It’s just mutual cooperation. According to some of our experts’ projections, it’s only a matter of time before your Hua Country surpasses Japan. Though it might take a very long time.”

”In fact, compared to us, Hua Country’s bigger rivals are to the north and in Europe and America. To develop, you need technology and capital, don’t you?”

Ye Feng scoffed. ’Competition is one thing with those other countries, but with the little devils, it’s a blood feud.’

’How can we talk about forgiveness without getting revenge?’

’Now some people are starting to preach forgiveness again. Forgive my ass!’

’But, since our technology isn’t as good as theirs, we really do have to endure the hardship and keep learning.’

Seeing Ye Feng’s dark expression, Han Xiaorui looked at Kuno Hiroo. ”Mr. Kuno, we’re just now preparing to build the police dog breeding base. The numbers and scale aren’t set yet. As for the specifics, let’s talk about it later. I can’t promise you anything right now.”

’Since some things are open for discussion and cooperation, then we must get more of what Hua Country so desperately needs.’

Kuno Hiroo smiled. ”You don’t have to worry about that. We will negotiate with the relevant departments. After all, as you know, Hua Country is in desperate need of advanced foreign technology.”

As Europe and America reaped the benefits of their economic policies toward Japan, many Japanese people began to realize that Hua Country was an excellent place for investment.

It was just a matter of negotiating how to invest.

”Alright, was that everything?” Han Xiaorui asked.

”Yes, that was it,” Kuno Hiroo replied. ”If possible, please put in a good word for me.”

Han Xiaorui shook her head. ”Alright, now that that’s over, let’s eat.”

The braised noodles Wu Jiao made looked good and tasted even better.

In any case, Han Xiaorui, Ye Feng, and the two kids loved it. As for Kuno Hiroo, he kept praising Wu Jiao’s cooking, though it was hard to tell if he genuinely thought it was delicious or was just being polite.

Wu Jiao, for her part, never gave Kuno Hiroo a pleasant look once she learned he was Japanese.

She hated all Japanese people; her great-grandfather from the Wu family had led his fellow villagers to fight the Japanese and died a martyr.

’National hatred and a family feud. I hate all the little devils!’

If war broke out between the two countries now, Wu Jiao would grab a gun and kill devils without the slightest hesitation or psychological barrier.

After dinner, Kuno Hiroo took his leave.

Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui walked him to the door. ”Goodbye, Mr. Kuno.”

Kuno Hiroo smiled. ”Goodbye. I’ll be back in a few days.”

”What are you coming back for?” Han Xiaorui asked, exasperated. ”What could this little place of ours possibly have that’s worth your attention?”

”Oh, there’s a lot,” Kuno Hiroo said with a laugh, then waved goodbye.

As the car drove further and further away, Han Xiaorui turned to Ye Feng. ”Is Kuno Hiroo really only after the police dogs?”

Ye Feng smiled. ”Probably not. His is a family that would sell their own souls for profit. For him to be so confident about getting the police dogs, he must be planning to offer Hua Country some even more useful technology.”

”We’re just too far behind. There’s nothing to be done about it. When will we finally surpass every other country and become number one in the world? I feel like it will take at least another forty or fifty years.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Yes, that sounds about right. But no matter how hard it is, we have to catch up. If we don’t, we might suffer the same fate as we did with the Eight-Nation Alliance, becoming a juicy piece of meat for the great powers to feast upon.”

Ye Feng squeezed Han Xiaorui’s hand. ”That’s right. The revolution is not yet won; comrades must keep up the fight. We must continue to endure the humiliation and forge ahead.”

This was the wish of all Hua Country people, and one day, it would be realized.

Meanwhile, inside the car, Kuno Hiroo’s face was alight with a smile. He was even humming a tune, a rare display of such self-satisfaction when he was out.

Seeing this, Tanaka Kenichi, who was sitting beside him, looked puzzled. ”Mr. Kuno, Japan is so powerful and Hua Country is so backward. They clearly resent us, so why do you still treat them with such courtesy? Is it just for the money?”

Kuno Hiroo sighed wistfully. ”Making money is one thing, but on the other hand, we’re friends. Are we really powerful right now? Heh, you’ve been blinded by a false sense of prosperity.”
