Chapter 309: Chapter 309: Thought She Was a Widow, Not a Divorcee

Chen Yishui nodded. ”As long as he’s still paying child support, I won’t speak ill of my ex-husband. After all, we’re divorced, and I understand he wants to move on with his life. But even though the adults are divorced, the children still belong to both of us. Paying child support is the bare minimum.”

”But if he stops paying child support, then he can’t blame me for getting nasty. I won’t just sue him; I’ll also make sure the kids know their father doesn’t even pay for their upbringing, that he doesn’t love them at all.”

”The kids might be sad for a while, but they’ll understand when they grow up. In the future, they won’t have to carry so much emotional ’debt.’ They can start their own new lives with a clean slate.”

Liang Xiaoyu smiled. ”That’s the right way to think. If we women are soft-hearted with men, we’re the ones who suffer. Being tired is one thing, but we can’t let ourselves be wronged.”

”Sometimes we should learn from Xiao Rui. When it comes to ex-husbands—unqualified ones—she doesn’t even mention them in front of the children. She doesn’t waste feelings or time on people who aren’t worth it.”

”In the words of our boat owner, our time is precious. Every minute is money. Life is so wonderful, so why let some scumbag waste our valuable time?”

Everyone chatted while enjoying the wedding banquet.

In their hearts, they were all happy for Han Xiaorui. Over the time they had worked together, Han Xiaorui had influenced all the boat workers with her capability and optimistic attitude.

Many of them had tasted the bitterness of life and endured its setbacks and hardships.

In the past, they would always lament why all the bad luck fell on them, but now, none of them complained like that anymore.

Since these difficulties and setbacks in life had come, there was no point in running away. The right thing to do was to face them head-on and live life to the fullest.

Once they cast aside the unnecessary burdens and negative emotions in their lives, they discovered that life could be so easy and simple.

The solemn yet festive wedding made Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng feel that they were truly married.

From this day forward, they would have each other to lean on and support in life.

Mr. Xu and Old Madam Xu looked at Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui, a handsome and talented couple who were a perfect match, and felt deeply moved.

”You two need to live well together from now on,” Mr. Xu said in a deep voice. ”No matter what difficulties you face, you must understand and encourage each other.”

Mr. Xu was born during the Republican era and had lived through great chaos and great governance, which made him cherish having a loved one by his side even more.

Whether in times of sorrow or happiness, there was always someone to accompany you.

More than that, this complete trust was something that no one but a wife could provide.

Old Madam Xu also smiled and said, ”Xiao Rui, if Ye Feng doesn’t listen or if he bullies you in the future, you tell me and I’ll smack him. Don’t you get angry. It’s not worth upsetting yourself!”

Ye Feng shook his head and chuckled.

’How could he possibly argue with Han Xiaorui? He couldn’t love her enough as it was!’

However, he would soon eat his words. In their future life together, the two would indeed ”argue” over certain things.

Han Xiaorui laughed. ”Thank you, Grandma. I won’t argue with Ye Feng! At most, if I get angry, I’ll just ignore him!”

Han Xiaorui would also soon eat her words. Life is a book filled with joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness.

How could they possibly not argue?

It was just that the things they argued about were different from other people’s!

It was their turn to bow to their father-in-law, Ye Zheng.

Ye Zheng smiled, looked at them, and said earnestly, ”No matter what you do, you must be safe and take care of your health. Only by staying healthy can you grow old together.”

When one person passes away first, leaving the other behind, it feels as if their very soul has become empty.

That was exactly how he felt now.

In the prime of his life, perhaps he could still use his career to fill the emptiness in his heart.

But as he grew older, the emptiness in his heart only grew larger.

Now, he only kept going for his children. Otherwise, Ye Zheng felt he had no motivation at all.

”We know, Dad,” Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui replied. In that moment, they knew their father-in-law must be missing their mother-in-law.

As the bride’s elders, Yang Zhigang and Granny Cai received a respectful bow from Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng, who thanked them for their love and care.

The relatives from the Xu family and Ye Family knew that Han Xiaorui was getting married for the second time. When they saw her former father-in-law attending as part of her ’maiden family,’ they all assumed Han Xiaorui was a widow, not a divorcée.

After all, it was rare for a woman to receive her former father-in-law’s blessing, let alone a dowry, after a divorce.

Yang Zhigang’s presence now was proof enough that Han Xiaorui was an excellent person.

Only some of the relatives had attended the engagement. The others, who couldn’t make it due to distance or busy careers, were very confused when they heard that Ye Feng was marrying a divorcée with children.

However, after they met Han Xiaorui and spent a little time with her, they understood why.

Han Xiaorui was not only beautiful in appearance but also worldly and adept at handling social situations.

Whether she had just met them or had known them for a long time, Han Xiaorui was able to converse happily with everyone.

The wedding was grand and lively.

The wedding ended, and the guests departed.

In the evening, there was a family dinner.

When Ye Zheng learned that his son and daughter-in-law were going to Yunnan for their honeymoon to pay respects to fallen comrades, he was slightly taken aback.

He had been on the battlefield himself, going through life and death with his comrades, so he understood the bond of soldiers better than anyone.

”Ye Feng, since you’re already taking so many people, why don’t you take Ye Ling and Ye Chen with you too?”

Ye Feng didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Dad, I’m just their stepbrother, not their father. I’m not going to babysit for you. I’m a father now too, and I need to look after my own daughter.”

Ye Zheng waved his hand. ”It’s fine, you don’t have to watch them. I’ll have a guard go with them. Their lives have been too easy; they don’t know where a good life comes from. You’re settled down with a family now, so I don’t have to worry about you anymore. But these two little rascals left are really a headache.”

Ye Feng waved his hand again. ”That’s still a no. There are plenty of martyrs’ cemeteries you can take them to yourself. In any case, I’m not taking them.”

Seeing Ye Feng’s refusal, Ye Zheng didn’t press the matter.

But the old coot didn’t play fair. That very night, he claimed something urgent had come up and left for the capital in the middle of the night.

Before he left, he told his two sons that their big brother was taking them on a trip to Yunnan.

Ye Zheng left a guard behind to be responsible for the children.

That night, they were staying in the garden villa. Han Xiaoqing put Pingping and An’an to sleep.

Ye Feng and Han Xiaorui finally had a chance to be alone.

One was eager, the other willing.

One was charmingly delicate, the other powerfully built.

Two people in love, their long-cherished wish finally fulfilled.

Ye Feng carried Han Xiaorui back from the bathroom, his hands caressing her fair, delicate skin as if in worship, the warmth spreading across his palms.

... (10,000 words omitted here) ...

The next day, it was bright outside.

The children were already running and playing in the garden, but in the master bedroom, the curtains were still drawn, blocking out the sunlight.

Han Xiaorui was sleeping sweetly, one long leg comfortably draped over Ye Feng.

Ye Feng, who was usually an early riser and went for a run, was also deep in sleep.

Even though he could hear the sounds from outside, he still didn’t want to get up.

He finally understood the meaning behind the ancient poem, ”From then on the sovereign forsook his morning court.” It was because ”a spring night is all too short!”
