The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 341: Chapter 341: A Fortunate Woman Does Not Marry an Unfortunate Man

Ye Feng was curious. ”What did your master say?”

Yao Ziqian lowered his voice. ”Back when we were in Hua Country for three months, my master stared at their maps and traveled to several major cities. He said the United States’ national fortune was soaring. At this rate, he estimated it would reach its peak in the next ten to fifteen years.”

”And then?” Yang Jianguo blinked. ”After it reaches its peak, does it start to decline?”

Yao Ziqian nodded. ”After reaching a peak, decline is inevitable. Besides, the United States has many hidden problems. When they no longer have favorable timing, location, and popular support, those problems will all erupt at once. Then, the good fortune will shift to our side.”

”Is that reliable?” Yang Jianguo was happy to hear it, but he wasn’t superstitious and didn’t believe in it as fervently as Yao Ziqian did.

Yao Ziqian scratched his head. ”Whether you believe it or not, you’ll see in the future. It doesn’t matter what I say, you probably won’t believe me anyway! But my master has real abilities. He’s not some roadside swindler.”

Ye Feng smiled. ”I believe it!”

”What... You’re a Communist Party member, and you believe in this stuff?” Yang Jianguo asked, exasperated.

Ye Feng shook his head. ”I believe that our Hua Country will certainly rise! With so many people working so hard, their efforts won’t be for nothing. With so many people’s sacrifices, they won’t have been in vain.”

”Exactly, you have to believe firmly,” Yao Ziqian replied. The three men’s conversation drifted further and further afield, eventually touching on a third world war.

Just then, Ye Feng heard the ship pulling into the dock. He stood up. ”Alright, that’s enough for today. We’ll talk again some other time.”

”Alright, take care!” Yang Jianguo smiled. But Ye Feng was walking so fast he broke into a run. ”The dock is right there. What’s the hurry?”

”He’s about to be a father, of course. For something this wonderful, he’s bound to be excited,” Yao Ziqian said with a laugh, letting the cat out of the bag.

”Huh?” Yang Jianguo froze. ”A father? You could tell?”

Yao Ziqian nodded. ”I’ve been studying under my master for so many years. If I couldn’t even see that, how could I dare to make a living out in the world?”

Hearing this, a complicated look crossed Yang Jianguo’s face. ”Sigh, what’s bound to happen will happen.”

”Are you worried that if Ye Feng has his own child, he won’t dote on Pingping and An’an anymore? You really don’t have to be. Ye Feng isn’t that kind of person,” Yao Ziqian reassured him.

Yang Jianguo shook his head with a wry smile. ”I’m not worried about that. I just want to curse out that cousin of mine across the ocean and hope he never comes back!”

Yao Ziqian smiled. ”A woman of good fortune doesn’t end up with a man of ill fortune. Since the two of them couldn’t get along, it just proves they weren’t meant to be.”

”As for your wish that your cousin never returns... I’m afraid that’s unlikely. I’ve read your second uncle’s fortune from his face. There will be turmoil in his later years, and most of it will stem from his son.”

Hearing this, Yang Jianguo’s heart sank. ”Ziqian, we’re going to be brothers-in-law. My second uncle is a genuinely good man. Is there any way you can resolve this for him?”

”Don’t worry, I’ll make it worth your while! Just name your price, and I’ll pay it.”

Yao Ziqian smiled and waved his hand. ”It’s not about the money. A person’s destiny is predetermined. If you alter it in one area, it will just rebalance itself in another.”

”If it were possible to make your cousin have a change of heart and live an honest life, but the price was your second uncle’s life being cut short, would you be willing to make that trade?”

Hearing that, Yang Jianguo immediately shook his head. ”Of course not! My second uncle has had a hard enough life already. I just hope he can be healthy and live a little more happily in his old age.”

”He may not have his son around, but he still has his granddaughters! He also has me, his nephew, and Xiao Rui, his goddaughter. His life is great right now.”

”As for that bastard cousin of mine, it’s better if he never comes back. Let him stay across the ocean and cause trouble for other people!”

Yao Ziqian smiled. ”So there’s really no need to worry. Things are great as they are. It wouldn’t necessarily be a good thing for any of you if Yang Jianming came back.”

Yang Jianguo gritted his teeth. ”You’re right. My cousin used to anger my second uncle so much that his face would turn pale, and he nearly fainted several times!”

”With him far away and out of sight, my second uncle can at least have some peaceful days. Our big family is doing just fine right now.”

”Ye Feng is incredibly good to Pingping and An’an. Even I, their uncle, couldn’t do what he does. My second uncle often praises Ye Feng to me, wishing Ye Feng were his own son.”

Yao Ziqian chuckled. ”Everyone has their own destiny! As amazing as my master is, even he couldn’t resolve the fated clash between me and my birth parents.”

”It’s the same with Uncle Yang and his son, it just manifests in a different way. In their case, distance keeps things peaceful, and they have less of an effect on each other.”

While the two brothers-in-law were talking, Ye Feng had already reached the shore.

When she was still thirty nautical miles from the dock, Han Xiaorui had sent a telegram to Zhang Guangnan.

Zhang Guangnan had a friend at the post office, so he got the call immediately.

By the time the ship docked, Zhang Guangnan had already brought some men to the pier and was waiting.

She was about to say a few more words when she saw Ye Feng arrive. ”Shouldn’t you be at work right now?” Han Xiaorui asked in surprise.

Ye Feng smiled. ”Finish up here quickly. I have something to talk to you about!”

”Okay! I’ll be right there!” Han Xiaorui readily agreed. Without wasting any time, she finished her business, grabbed her duffel bag, and disembarked.

Ye Feng took the bag from Han Xiaorui’s hands and led her toward home by the hand.

”So, what is it?” Han Xiaorui couldn’t wait until they got home to ask.

Ye Feng smiled, his eyes landing on Han Xiaorui’s stomach. ”Are you pregnant?”

”Huh?” Han Xiaorui froze. ”How did you know I’m pregnant?”

Ye Feng was surprised. ”So you really are pregnant?”

Han Xiaorui nodded. She had planned to keep it a secret, but since Ye Feng had asked her directly, she decided to tell him the truth.

”My cycle is very regular, and I’ve missed my period. Based on past experience, that should mean I’m pregnant.”

”But I feel perfectly fine, no discomfort at all, so don’t worry. Oh, right, you still haven’t told me—how did you know?”

’The crewman promised he wouldn’t tell anyone.’

Ye Feng answered with a smile, ”The director of the village’s Women’s Federation came by to talk about family planning and healthy child-rearing. She gave me a couple of pamphlets. I just did the math.”

Han Xiaorui burst out laughing. ’He really went to a lot of trouble.’ ”I was planning to keep it from you as a surprise, but the cat’s out of the bag now!”

Ye Feng’s eyes were intense. ”It’s still a surprise! But this is just your guess for now. After we get home, you can take a shower, and once we’ve had lunch, I’ll take you to the hospital for a check-up.”

Han Xiaorui happily agreed. Even though the baby was in her belly, pregnancy was something for both husband and wife to experience, and she wanted Ye Feng to feel involved.

As planned, Han Xiaorui went with Ye Feng to the hospital that afternoon for an examination.

The results confirmed Han Xiaorui’s suspicions: she was pregnant.

Upon getting the definitive news, Ye Feng was overjoyed. He took Han Xiaorui to her maternal grandparents’ home.

This news was monumental for the entire Xu family.

The entire Xu family erupted with joy!
