The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Two Brothers-in-Law

Han Xiaorui’s eyes were closed. She was sleeping soundly.

Ye Feng kissed her forehead, then gently moved her leg off him.

He got up and started dressing, preparing to get out of bed.

Han Xiaorui was woken by the movement beside her. ”Why aren’t you sleeping in?”

Ye Feng chuckled lightly. ”It’s already eight o’clock.”

”Huh?” Han Xiaorui was stunned, unable to believe it. ”It’s that late?”

She listened to the commotion outside, then glanced at the sunlight peeking through the gap in the curtains. ”It really isn’t early.”

She didn’t have to get up early, but with the sound of children laughing and playing outside, Han Xiaorui couldn’t fall back asleep anyway.

When Ye Feng saw Han Xiaorui getting up, he squeezed toothpaste onto her toothbrush, ran water for her to wash her face, and laid out a clean towel.

Seeing such a thoughtful and considerate Ye Feng, Han Xiaorui smiled.

After washing up, without even bothering to change, the two shared another deep, passionate kiss.

A beautiful day had begun.

Although Ye Feng really wanted to go back to bed, Han Xiaorui wasn’t having it.

”Too much indulgence is bad for your health. You can’t be like this.” Han Xiaorui playfully pushed at Ye Feng’s chest with her fists.

Ye Feng rested his chin on Han Xiaorui’s neck and laughed softly. ”But we’re newlyweds! What’s wrong with indulging a little?”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”We have plenty of time for that later. The children are all up. Let’s hurry downstairs. I’m hungry.”

Ye Feng could already hear Han Xiaorui’s stomach rumbling, so he had no choice but to go downstairs with her to eat.

Han Xiaoqing, Wu Jiao, and Wu Yao had already been playing outside with the children for about an hour.

Hearing that Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng were up, the children all ran over. ”Daddy, Mommy, time for breakfast.”

The cook in the kitchen had already brought out a sumptuous breakfast.

Han Xiaoqing took them to wash their hands, and Ye Ling and Ye Chen, drenched in sweat, also came in from outside.

”Hurry and wash your hands, it’s time to eat,” Han Xiaorui urged as she saw them run in.

”We know, Sister-in-law.” Beaming, the two of them ran into the bathroom to wash their hands.

Once everyone was seated, Ye Feng looked around. ”Where’s Dad?”

Ye Ling answered, ”Uncle Xiao Zheng said that Dad had something to take care of and left in the middle of the night. He heard you’re traveling to Yunnan and told us to go with you.”

Hearing this, Ye Feng was dumbfounded. ”What... How could he just leave like that?”

’I already told him yesterday. I’m not Ye Ling and Ye Chen’s father; I don’t want to babysit someone else’s kids.’

’And yet this shameless old man actually ran off in the middle of the night.’

Seeing the displeasure on Ye Feng’s face, Han Xiaorui kicked him under the table, reminding him not to take his temper out on the boys.

’After all, their scheming father-in-law has already left. Taking it out on the boys won’t solve anything.’

’Besides, Ye Ling and Ye Chen are very respectful toward Ye Feng.’

’As their big brother and sister-in-law, they have to be gracious.’

”Oh, I see. In that case, we’ll rest today, and tomorrow we’ll go back to Jinshan Bay for the homecoming banquet. The morning after that, we’ll take the train to Yunnan.”

Ye Ling asked, ”Sister-in-law, can’t we take a plane?”

Han Xiaorui turned to look at Ye Feng. ”Should we take a plane? It would be faster.”

Ye Feng thought for a moment. ”I’m worried the kids might be scared. The train is slower, but we can see the scenery along the way.”

Han Xiaorui thought about it and nodded. ”That’s true. A train isn’t as fast as a plane, but since it’s on the ground, we can see the mountains and rivers.”

”Ye Ling, we’re taking the train. If you don’t want to, I can have your big brother buy you two a plane ticket.”

Ye Chen quickly said, ”Sister-in-law, I’ll take the train. Planes are too loud; they hurt my ears.”

Seeing that everyone else wanted to take the train, Ye Ling had no choice but to go along with it. ”Alright, then. I guess it’s going to be a long train ride.”

Ye Feng was already annoyed. ”If you don’t want to go, you can stay in Shencheng. Or I can buy you a plane ticket and have Xiao Zheng take you.”

Seeing his big brother’s displeased expression, Ye Ling shrank back.

He might dare to talk back to his father, but he never dared to defy his big brother. One glare from his brother was enough to terrify him.

His much older brother had a very intimidating presence.

This was also why Ye Zheng wanted to leave the two boys here; they were especially mischievous and hard to manage.

After breakfast, Han Xiaorui and Ye Feng took the children to pay their respects to Old Madam Xu and Mr. Xu.

”Xiao Rui, don’t be upset. Your uncle fractured a bone and is in the hospital. Your aunt was worried, so she flew over first thing yesterday morning and missed your wedding. They both feel very guilty about it.”

”But don’t you worry. When they get back, they’ll give you a gift. I guarantee you’ll like it.”

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui smiled. ”Grandma, Uncle is injured. It would be wrong of me to fuss over such small things. Aunt must have arrived by now. How is he doing?”

Old Madam Xu replied, ”It’s nothing serious, but your uncle is all alone in the hospital, the poor thing. Your aunt went to take care of him and keep him company. Sigh, this really shows the disadvantages of not having a wife and kids.”

”I’ve talked myself blue in the face, but it’s no use; your uncle just won’t listen. Maybe breaking his leg and being hospitalized will make him change his mind. Come, come, it’s the second day of your marriage. There are gifts for everyone, big and small.”

Old Madam Xu looked at all the people in the house, which was suddenly so much livelier.

She looked from one person to the next, feeling especially happy. It was so much better than the usual quiet and emptiness.

’It would be wonderful if it were this lively every day. There’s a kindergarten nearby.’

’If Pingping and An’an were ordinary children, that would be one thing. She could invite them to attend the kindergarten here. It’s a bilingual school mostly attended by the children of returning overseas Chinese and some foreign personnel.’

’But Pingping and An’an need corrective therapy, so Old Madam Xu had to give up the idea.’

’It’s better for them to go to school in Jinshan Bay.’

’But on weekends and holidays, Han Xiaorui, being a considerate person, would definitely bring the children to visit them.’

The children were happy to receive their gifts; even Ye Ling and Ye Chen got something.

Old Madam Xu felt no dislike for the boys, but she simply couldn’t stand the sight of Wang Liwen.

Seeing Wang Liwen always reminded her of her own daughter’s tragic and premature death.

Ye Ling and Ye Chen were playing with Pingping and An’an, with Ye Feng keeping an eye on them. The two mischievous boys didn’t dare bully Pingping and An’an in the slightest.

If they so much as raised their voices, Ye Feng would glare at them.

In Ye Feng’s presence, Pingping and An’an’s sense of security was off the charts.

Han Xiaoqing took Wu Jiao and Wu Yao to a wholesale market in the city to buy things to send back to their families.

Han Xiaorui covered all of Wu Jiao’s and Wu Yao’s living expenses, from clothing and food to housing and transportation.

Aside from buying a few things to send home now and then, they saved almost all of their salary and bonuses.

This time, they bought a whole sackful of things, which they hauled to the post office to mail home.

Previously, they had already mailed a bag of dried seafood so their families could also enjoy some better food.

Han Xiaoqing said with a smile, ”Wu Jiao, Wu Yao, once my sister and brother-in-law get back from their honeymoon, you can have some time off.”

Wu Jiao waved her hand. ”It’s fine if we don’t. After all, Sister Xiao Rui is so busy. It must be hard for her without us around.”

The pay was high and the benefits were good; Wu Jiao and Wu Yao cherished this job very much.
