Warhammer Divine Throne

The Holy Grail Knight’s encouragement was quite effective, and the morale of the peasants remained stable.

In the open space of the central army, Gabriel and Julius were already there. Marquis Connelly was injured and did not attend this military meeting. Instead, Surya replaced him in the meeting. The female knight found a chair to sit on, looking unwell: ”Lord Laine?”

”Yes!” Laine nodded, and the four of them stood by the small pond in the valley to discuss their next move.

”Gentlemen, I have two pieces of good news and one bad news to tell you. Which do you want to hear first?” Baron Gabriel smiled wryly: ”The first good news is that we have plenty of food now.”

Laine and Surya both smiled bitterly. After such a reduction in numbers, food was naturally in abundance.

Only Julius kept a stern face and said nothing.

”The second piece of good news is that the beastmen seem to have truly disappeared. Our scouts found no trace of the beastmen, not even any ordinary animals. After so many years of war, gentlemen, do you know what this means?” Gabriel’s eyes sparkled: ”This is the bad news; it means the next attack will be an all-out war between the beastmen and us.”

”An all-out war...” Laine frowned: ”Can we predict when the beastmen will attack?”

”Very difficult.” Julius spoke: ”It’s very hard to speculate on the beastmen’s actions. I can only say they will attack when we are most vulnerable or least expecting it.”

”Attacking when we are most vulnerable, at the most unexpected time...” The group fell into silence.

So, when would that be?

Beastmen and the greenskin orcs are not of the same race.

The fighting style of the greenskins is called ’live to brawl, die for war,’ whereas beastmen are more akin to a vengeful action aiming to make their opponents suffer, they will do everything they can to torment and humiliate the enemy.

Now, the beastmen were lurking in the shadows, waiting to deliver a deadly blow to this exhausted army.

Laine and the others did not intend to sit idly by; the soldiers were still capable of one last fight, and the knights would never yield to these chaos evil beasts.

But when would the beastmen launch this fatal strike?

This army could not remain on alert and standby forever, otherwise they would collapse before the beastmen even appeared.

You can only play the role of a thief for a thousand days, but you cannot guard against a thief for a thousand days.

Everyone could feel the heavy weight pressing on their shoulders, in this world, the commander’s every move often affected the entire situation, and each of their decisions involved the lives and deaths of thousands.

If there’s no way to determine when the beastmen would attack, this troop would have to be like a bird startled by the mere twang of a bow, trembling in fear, and how could the battle proceed this way?

”Request reinforcements? Have Marquis Angxi from the central route join us?” Laine suggested another plan.

The cool evening breeze stroked the faces of the group, and the knights’ eyes fell on Marquis Gabriel.

He had a magic tool made by the Lake God Prophet, capable of performing magic communication.

The third son of Duke Bastogne hesitated for a moment but then took out a silver instrument that resembled a short dagger: ”Should we ask now?”

”The sooner we ask, the sooner we’ll see the effects.” Laine shook his head, smiling bitterly: ”And the sooner we’ll know the answer.”

Thus, Marquis Gabriel hesitated no more. He took out a gemstone, pressed it onto the magic communication tool, and signaled everyone to keep quiet.

About ten seconds later, the communication got through.

”This is Angxi Desmond, is this the Right Army? Please report your situation.” Marquis Angxi’s young voice emanated from the tool.

”This is Gabriel de Bastogne, we’ve encountered trouble...” Gabriel succinctly explained the current predicament of the right army to the commander.

The energy needed for magic communication was vast. After Gabriel used just a few words to describe the current crisis, a costly gemstone had already lost its luster.

Yet Marquis Angxi fell silent for a while, and it wasn’t until the gemstone’s energy was nearly depleted that he spoke: ”We might not be able to support you. I’m very sorry, Gabriel.”

”Why?!” Gabriel exclaimed anxiously.

”The enemy’s situation is unclear, the main force has only just set out, and our scouts have also detected signs of beastman activity. We cannot ascertain whether the forces you’ve encountered are the main body of the beastmen, it is highly likely a trap, so we... will not... join forces is... like.” At the end, Marquis Angxi’s voice became increasingly vague.

Then the communication was abruptly cut off.

”As expected.” Gabriel put down the communication tool and sighed: ”I never counted on him. When he assigned us here together, I knew we could only rely on ourselves.”

”Let’s discuss when exactly the beastmen will launch a full-scale attack on us.”

”We have no other choice.”

......

The Kingdom Knights continued their discussion.

Aside, the peasants were busily working. Under the command of the master knights, they were chopping wood, lighting bonfires to prepare meals, and many peasants were building fences, establishing wooden walls to reinforce the camp’s defense.

Deni performed well in today’s skirmish. The hunter’s son fought bravely in battle, even blinding the left eye of a lone horned beast.
