Warhammer Divine Throne

In early April, along the mountain road behind Baron Gene’s Domain, a group of knights was riding forward.

Surya did not come alone; two Kingdom Knights led a number of Ranger Knights to protect the Duke’s daughter. The internal security of Brittania, especially near the Winford Duchy, was not very good. Although the Lady Knight had Elite High-Tier strength, she could not come alone.

The Kingdom Knights sent by the Duke to protect his daughter were naturally experts. Both of these Kingdom Knights had Elite Peak strength and possessed their own titles: one was called Bull Knight Baptiste, and the other Stag Knight Gaston. They were both over thirty years old, wearing excellent knight plate armor, with longswords hanging at their waists and shields hanging on the hind legs of their horses, carefully watching the movements on both sides of the road.

Only the Holy Grail Knight, with a calm expression, rode on his horse, chatting with the Duke’s daughter: ”So, Winford’s public security isn’t as good as imagined?”

”Yes, Lord Laine, we spend a lot of effort every year clearing out bandits,” the Lady Knight said earnestly while riding her pure-blooded Elf Warhorse, explaining to the Baron: ”Many of the strongholds of bandits are established on the borders of the Duchy or hidden deep within forests. To eliminate them, we’ve lost quite a few knights.”

”Doesn’t make sense?” Laine remarked sarcastically, ”Could it be that the Duchy’s knights are unable to handle this threat?”

As soon as these words were spoken, many young Ranger Knights in the knight squad had a displeased look on their faces, but since the person in front of them was a Holy Grail Knight, they couldn’t say much, at most muttering a few words: ”It’s not that we don’t try, it’s just that the bandits are too cunning.”

Bull Knight Baptiste, with a handsome mustache and a shaved bald head, heard Laine’s remark and awkwardly said, ”Please, Lord Laine, be understanding. The bandits are extremely cunning. They frequently attack villages, and once they hear the knights are gathering, they retreat deep into the mountains or forests, hiding in those strongholds to hold out.”

”Then why don’t you just lay siege?” Laine asked, not intending to spare these knights any face.

The virtues of the Holy Grail Knight were unquestionable, and all the knights present felt a bit ashamed. Seeing this, Surya voluntarily picked up the conversation: ”It’s like this, Lord Laine, siege engines are bulky and difficult to transport into the depths of forests or mountain interiors. Cunning bandits never confront us head-on. When they hold their castles, it’s very difficult for us to overcome those strongholds.”

”Hmm~” Laine stroked his chin, really pondering the problem.

Brittania, the Knight Kingdom, the land of knights, possessing the strongest heavy cavalry army in the entire Old World.

The group charge of the knights in field battles is indeed powerful, but this has its pros and cons. With the entire country’s resources supporting the knights, the Knight Kingdom lacks powerful siege weapons and strong ranged units, which is one of the disadvantages. This nation has no artillery. When bandits build their castles deep in forests or rugged mountains, the heavy catapult, unlike artillery, cannot be transported there, forcing the knights to dismount and fight.

Therefore, the knights felt quite helpless against these bandits, and could only defend passively. The cost of recruiting a large army was too expensive, not an option considered by the Duke.

Thinking to this point, Laine somewhat understood why the Lady Knight sought him.

”Is Miss Surya hoping that I could help His Grace the Duke with this issue?” Laine still wore a smile on his face, appearing very calm.

”Yes, we would like to ask Mr. Laine to help us; otherwise, these bandit raids every year will cause a significant loss to the Duchy, with people displaced, caravans robbed and killed, and farmlands destroyed.” The Lady Knight pushed a golden lock behind her ear, her figure resembling a blooming iris, her face full of sincerity and seriousness: ”I hope Lord Laine can extend a helping hand for us. This is my personal request.”

Having said this, Laine did not hesitate in the slightest and immediately agreed: ”No problem, I agree. Miss Surya and Yuri are both my friends, and the Antre Family is a friend of mine, Laine Macado. They’ve helped me a lot on the way here; I have no reason not to agree.”

”That’s wonderful, thank you very much.” Surya’s delicate features blossomed into a smile.

Laine also smiled kindly in response.

This young lady is both gentle and articulate. She and her family behind her have repeatedly shown goodwill, and Laine had no reason to refuse. The Antre Family helped him a lot from Marinburg all the way to Brittania.

The knightly virtues don’t allow him to turn a blind eye, accepting benefits without wanting to give anything in return is the act of a scoundrel.

Entering the interior of the Winford Duchy, the air was filled with a sweet fragrance. This duchy, surrounded by the Oracle Mountain Range, had the Xinong River originating from deep within the mountains. The land here was boundlessly fertile, with a climate cool in winter and mild in summer, hosting the best vineyards and olive oil workshops in the Old World.

Looking up, the vast blue sky was warmed by the sun shining down on the land, with hardworking peasants toiling away. The stone-paved roads were bustling with travelers, caravans, and villagers.

”What a vibrant and lively land!” Laine praised, ”It’s practically paradise on earth.”

Upon hearing this praise from the Holy Grail Knight, the Ranger Knights and two Kingdom Knights felt honored. Stag Knight Gaston immediately responded loudly: ”Precisely, Lord Laine. Whenever I see this beautiful scenery, I am willing to dedicate my life to this land. When I fight abroad, the Lady and Winford are my most steadfast faith.”
