Warhammer Divine Throne

Mr. Laine once again carefully contemplated his actions. He believed he hadn’t touched the most sensitive areas of the great nobles. He could cover up many of his actions with some excuses, like being new to the territory or eager to serve.

One could only say, among the great nobles there are few fools. Just by showing some signs, a King’s Order had landed in his hands. This was both a warning and a form of appeasement from the King.

Laine knew that he must personally lead his people into battle this time. At such a juncture, he needed to stay in sync with everyone else, ensuring he doesn’t incite collective resentment from the great nobles before he has secured his position, and he must also demonstrate some ability to prove his strength.

”Since that’s the case, I will personally lead the Baron’s Domain army to join the Knightly Army at Valeremy Camp near Arden Forest.” Laine made up his mind. What must come will always come. Faced with various problems, he had no choice but to confront difficulties head-on, rather than evade them.

”I will go with you too.” Amelia suddenly said, ”This year’s Knightly War is Marquis Connelly’s turn to serve. He is not a noble adept in military matters. Father’s intention is for you to command the Winford army.”

”Then Miss Surya doesn’t have to...” Laine seemed to want to persuade, but the female knight’s attitude was very firm: ”I will definitely participate in the Knightly War. I am a Holy Grail Knight and daughter of the Duke of Winford!”

”Then all I can say is, this summer, please take good care of me, dear Miss Surya.” Laine knew she was determined, so he said no more.

The female knight didn’t stay long at Laine’s place. She was still unmarried and not suitable to stay overnight at a man’s home. After exchanging a few more words, Surya rode away on her Pegasus.

”Mr. Laine... are you going to war again?” Amelia said worriedly. The little maid came to Laine’s side, her big eyes blinking.

”The only thing that can ensure our survival in this dark world is war.” Laine gazed at the moonlight outside the window and the midsummer night’s bonfire party, shaking his head gently.

To protect this prosperity, to achieve peace and tranquility, there is only war, only a constant declaration against the darkness.

”You must return victorious, Mr. Laine.” Amelia knew there was nothing she could do. The girl could only stand by Laine’s side and bless him softly.

”Amelia, I’m not going out to battle tomorrow.” Laine laughed bitterly. He patted the little maid on the head: ”Study hard. Is anyone bullying you at school?”

”No, President Surya usually takes me with her. The classmates think I am President Surya’s maid, so no one bullies me.” Amelia nodded repeatedly, looking very satisfied: ”Miss Surya is the president of the academy council, very gentle, and very nice to me.”

”That’s good.” Laine said nothing more. He clearly had things on his mind.

Amelia had a feeling that the man before her seemed to be growing distant from her.

Back when they were in Marinburg, it was just her and Laine at home. They got along very easily, and he would often chat and joke with her even after other maids joined their household.

But now...

The girl looked at Laine’s back, sighing internally. She really hoped she could be of help to Mr. Laine.

She made up her mind, she must study hard and strive to help him in the future.

......

On the midsummer festival, Laine and his vassals recruited about two hundred infantrymen.

A week later.

Kasenberg stood beside Laine with his hands behind his back: ”My Baron, we have recruited a total of 207 infantrymen, including 102 long spear soldiers, 41 sword and shield soldiers, and 64 archers.”

The newly recruited army stood on a flat ground, receiving inspection from their lord, and receiving new weapons and armor.

The Baron was actually not very satisfied with these newly recruited soldiers. Most of them were either too frail or too ignorant, with few meeting the Baron’s needs for qualified new recruits. However, the Baron understood that in this world, peasants lacked nutrition from a young age, without foundational training, they naturally were short and weak. The nobles could only pick the tallest among the short, selecting those that were as strong as possible and could wield weapons.

Therefore, originally planning to recruit 300 people, Laine changed his mind last minute, recruiting only about 200 people instead. This way he could ensure farming and labor while also maintaining territorial security.

He wasn’t afraid of anyone coming to steal from him.

”The King has already issued a conscription order. In August, I have to take people to Valeremy Camp to report to Marquis Angxi.” Laine turned around, looking at his two Ranger Knights: ”My knights, tell me, in one month’s time, how will you be able to train these soldiers?”

”Training them to become fully competent in a month is comparatively difficult, my Baron.” Olivier spoke up. The handsome Ranger Knight stroked the scruff of his chin: ”We can only do our best.”

Laine could only place his hopes on his elder brother Angerong.

”Don’t look at me, brother. These young brats can’t endure my training. I can only say they are all useless and trash.” Angerong said disdainfully. The World-Devourer Primarch had no regard for these new recruits: ”Brother, if you want me to help train soldiers, you’d better send me some sturdier ones... For instance, someone who can take a beating like you.”
