Chapter 318: Chapter 138, Duke Winford’s Recommendation

This is a red Demon Prince about five or six meters tall, with massive wings, wielding a giant war axe. It is adorned with numerous skulls and is letting out a desperate roar.

”Father, Father!!!” The Fallen Primarch, who ascended to demonhood, seemed unable to speak coherently, only repeating the word father over and over, even as it was on the brink of defeat under the combined assault of the Emperor and Zhuangsen, with several gaping wounds on its body and a hand already lost.

It continued to persist, desperately holding on.

But faced with the joint attack of the Emperor and Zhuangsen, it finally couldn’t escape its destined defeat. The tall figure was pierced through the chest by both the Emperor’s giant sword and Zhuangsen’s giant sword in succession, and the Fallen Primarch fell to the ground with a crash. Its material shell gradually disappeared, and its soul and energy were about to return to Subspace.

”Quickly! Chaos has sensed my return!” The Emperor stretched out his hand, forming a colossal storm that swept through Subspace. The soul of the Demon Primarch and the Chaos Energy Body forming it were forcibly torn out of Subspace by the Master of Humans.

The stars trembled.

Only the most powerful Master of Humans could accomplish such a miracle.

”What should we do next, Father?” Zhuangsen had suffered some minor injuries, but for a Primarch, it wasn’t a big deal; he could fully recover in a day or two.

”Now, it’s time to send this guy over there for cleansing. Leon, take your men, let’s go!”

”Retreat! Retreat!”

......

Mid-April, Brittania, capital of Winford Duchy, Helunhilde.

Holy Grail Knight Laine led the victorious knights back into the city, looking proud and elated, for they had brought back carts of spoils of war and carts of bandit heads.

In seven days, all five bandit strongholds were eradicated.

Although it was impossible to completely eradicate the bandit troubles, it was believed that the Duke of Winford would not have to worry about this for a while.

And in those few days, the knights of Winford witnessed firsthand what brutality was.

All the bandit fortresses saw Laine first charging alone directly to the fortress, any ranged weapons of the bandits proved ineffective against the Holy Grail Knight, then Laine used his Griffin Warhammer to break through doors or even walls, rendering the defenders’ advantages null, followed by the dismounted knights charging in.

Whether wood, stone, or even iron doors, nothing could withstand Laine’s force.

It was too violent.

Simple, brutal, direct, and effective—thus, relying on this barely tactical tactic, the knights achieved continuous victories; the bandits had no chance against the dismounted knights in close combat, and once the knights engaged, it was devastating.

Along the road into the city, many minstrels were already narrating a series of Laine’s glorious achievements: dueling the Doomsday Bull, winning the championship duel, exposing the Aesthetic Society’s scandal, killing the Champion of Khorne, and single-handedly slaying two green-skinned warlords and one Two-legged Flying Dragon in the Battle of Koleson.

However, this did not include his latest story of eradicating bandit troubles, as the event had just occurred and the poets and playwrights had not yet crafted new poems and scripts.

Flowers and applause continually greeted the triumphant knights, causing many young Ranger Knights to become somewhat puffed up. Fortunately, they fully realized that without Laine’s presence, victories wouldn’t have come so easily, preventing them from losing composure.

Yet their self-satisfied demeanor was quite apparent on the surface.

On the way back to the castle, walking alongside Laine, Surya sighed and said: ”It’s too easy, Lord Laine, you’re fostering their pride, making them unaware of the heights and depths, not every battle will have a powerful Holy Grail Knight like you, Lord Laine, easily breaking through stone walls and wooden doors, granting them opportunities for close combat, making them think war is simple.”

Laine always felt this duke’s daughter somewhat disapproved of Brittania’s young Ranger Knights’ recklessness and passion, so he smiled and said: ”It’s also too easy for me, Miss Surya, my duty is to eliminate these bandit troubles, eradicate their strongholds, not to train these Ranger Knights.”

The female knight’s eyes glinted as she was about to continue the conversation, but Laine continued: ”Speaking of which... Yuri still hasn’t gotten married? He’s twenty-six now, isn’t he? Has nobody introduced anyone to him?”

”My brother... many have introduced, but he’s not satisfied, and for him, there’s no rush.” Surya could only respond: ”Because my brother’s state is similar to yours, Lord Laine; no doubt, Lord Laine, you understand.”

This point, Laine could truly comprehend, for he and Julius were at the Legendary Tier, and at this level, they would not age before reaching a century. Thus, delaying marriage was not a significant issue, and if they hadn’t met someone satisfactory, they could wait a while longer.

Take, for example, his godfather Ivan, who didn’t marry until he was nearly fifty.

In the pavilion of the Duke’s Castle at Helunhilde, Francois was conversing with a middle-aged man with graying hair and beard, aged around fifty, dressed exquisitely in a count’s silk attire, leaning on a gentleman’s walking stick, seated on one side of the pavilion.

He was Marquis Connelly-Ascot, Laine’s superior in name.

When the two sat together, the Grand Duke seemed younger by comparison.
