The Wealthy Tycoon's Game of Life

Chapter 1241: Chapter 473: Head-to-Head 1.0_2

She took a deep breath and smiled, ”Sister Xiwei, you still like to joke around just like when you were a kid. You’re a superstar everyone adores; how could you be put in the position of taking the subway? What if someone recognizes you?”

”If someone recognizes me, then so be it.”

Xia Xiwei replied with a carefree smile, ”Who says celebrities can’t have their private lives? Besides, Yiyi, do you think I would be concerned with the so-called ’idol baggage?’ If Zhou Wang needs it, I can even take off my mask and squeeze into the subway with him.”

”That’s true, Sister Xiwei, why would you care about such things?”

Ding Yi smiled, ”You’re someone who loves to share. You couldn’t wait to post about knowing Zhou Wang on Weibo not long after meeting him, eager for the whole world to witness you two... Unfortunately, I can’t be as brave as you. I don’t think everything is for sharing; I still have a bit of self-respect even if it appears laughable.”

Ding Yi’s self-deprecation made Xia Xiwei’s blood pressure rise as well.

On the surface, Ding Yi seemed to be complimenting her ’bravery,’ but between the lines, she was almost outright accusing Xia Xiwei of being ’shameless’ and ’ruthless.’

Now it was Xia Xiwei’s turn to take a deep breath. Though she maintained a smile, she could no longer bother with so-called tact.

”Yiyi, you’re wrong. It’s not like I share everything. Otherwise, Zhou Wang has met my parents, and I haven’t told anyone...”

That sentence indeed left Ding Yi stunned, and she looked at Zhou Wang in a daze.

”You... went to her home?”

”That was unintentional, I...”

Dizzy from the enormous information coming from the conversation between the two, Zhou Wang was just about to explain when Xia Xiwei, smiling, took over the conversation again.

”Yiyi, fate is truly wonderful, isn’t it? Do you remember I complained to you about being troubled by the engagement with Jiang Minghao? Zhou Wang, with just one visit, helped me resolve that issue... My parents genuinely like him!”

What Xia Xiwei said was indeed factual, yet she unilaterally overlooked the most crucial point, which was that her parents were not solely satisfied because of her ’relationship’ with Zhou Wang.

But such a guiding script, when heard by Ding Yi, naturally felt completely different.

Her body visibly trembled, and her face even paled a few shades, but Ding Yi was always Ding Yi, quickly realizing something was off.

Because she knew Zhou Wang’s character; he might not be steadfast, but he was someone who highly valued commitments. It was precisely for this reason that she and Zhou Wang were unable to be together for so long.

Because Zhou Wang knew precisely what she wanted.

The same applies to Xia Xiwei. Xia Xiwei might seem carefreely, but could Zhou Wang not understand the price of truly being with her?

If Zhou Wang could readily make such commitments, even declaring so in front of Xia Xiwei’s parents, she and Zhou Wang might have been together since college, not dragging on to today.

Understanding all this, Ding Yi smiled again, looking directly into Xia Xiwei’s eyes, as if seeing straight into her heart.

”Sister Xiwei, you must understand that principle, right? When you keep presenting certain evidence, trying to prove you have achieved something, it usually means that thing is too out of reach for you.”

Ding Yi murmured, her smile growing brighter, ”Announced Weibo posts are like that, intentionally posted friend circles are like that, you taking Zhou Wang home is also like that... Inside, you must be very anxious, right? You weren’t doing it for me to see; you were doing it for yourself. You’re desperately maintaining these illusory façades because you, more than anyone, know they can shatter at any moment.”

”Zhou Wang... never belonged to you.”

Ding Yi’s gentle yet definitive conclusion hit Xia Xiwei like a sword directly piercing her heart. Her face under the mask paled, and her grip on Zhou Wang’s sleeve tightened.

Yes, Ding Yi’s analysis was not wrong in a sense.

Xia Xiwei knew it herself; because of her background, she had indeed been lonely for a long time...

At first, she was just curious about what kind of man could make Ding Yi, someone regarded as a heavenly daughter by many in the Beijing Circle, to fall for him. Even Xia Xiwei occasionally felt ’inferior’ in her presence.

Most ridiculously, that man wasn’t even her proper boyfriend, seemingly entangled with other women.

Could it be that he saved Ding Yi’s life?

After truly interacting with Zhou Wang, although there was some acting involved, Xia Xiwei realized that unknowingly, Zhou Wang had already generated a lethal attraction towards her.

Even though they hadn’t met many times, Xia Xiwei herself couldn’t explain how it all began.

Perhaps it was the mystery surrounding him, his power, wealth, and status that didn’t match his age, or perhaps it was his indifferent attitude towards her...

Unable to find a real reason, Xia Xiwei could only attribute everything to a wonderful fate.

However, no matter how, Ding Yi’s floating words now shattered the ambiguous illusion Xia Xiwei had been trying to create, leaving Xia Xiwei uncontrollably embarrassed and angry.

”Yiyi, perhaps Zhou Wang doesn’t belong to me, but it seems like you don’t have the standing to interfere in matters between me and him either. Under what identity can you intervene?”
