The Wealthy Tycoon's Game of Life

Chapter 1211: Chapter 460: The Sweet Taste

Thump, thump, thump...

”Zhou Wang, why is your heart beating so fast?”

Staring into Zhou Wang’s eyes, which seemed to be glowing even in the dark, Yu Duo unconsciously swallowed and stuttered, ”You’re... You’re not afraid of the dark too, are you?”

Zhou Wang found it amusing because that thundering heartbeat was actually coming from Yu Duo...

Yes, Yu Duo’s rapidly accelerating heartbeat had reached a point where it could faintly be heard even without trying.

Her panicked words were merely a cover for her disordered emotions.

”Yeah, I’m actually quite afraid of the dark too. You don’t know this, but I have childhood trauma. Remember the earthquake in Jing City? I was buried under the rubble alone for three days and nights. That’s when the root of my problem started...”

”Oh, you had such a terrible experience? How pitiful...”

Listening to Zhou Wang’s ramblings, Yu Duo relaxed quite a bit and began to sympathize with the man in front of her. But then she felt something was off and asked in a puzzled tone, ”Was there ever an earthquake in Jing City?”

”There was, a long time ago. Ahem, maybe you didn’t see it on the news.”

Zhou Wang, having casually bragged, realized his lie had a significant flaw. Before Yu Duo could ask further, he pretended to accidentally bump into Yu Duo’s phone.

With a ”snap,” followed by Yu Duo’s exclamation, her phone fell into the car, and the only available light suddenly went out.

”Ah, my phone fell! Zhou Wang, help me find it!”

The surroundings plunged into complete darkness, and the panicked Yu Duo hurriedly lowered her head to grope around.

”Let me help, I think I saw where it fell... Huh, where is it... Strange, I just felt it...”

Zhou Wang also pretended to help her look, but in reality, he pushed the phone further into a corner the moment he found it.

The two of them searched for a long time but couldn’t find the missing phone. Yu Duo anxiously said, ”Zhou Wang, where’s your phone?”

”I didn’t bring it. I think I left it at the front desk.”

Zhou Wang said helplessly.

”Then, what should we do? Maybe we should have the staff come to get us...”

As the darkness encroached, fear began to swell within Yu Duo, who couldn’t help but lean closer to Zhou Wang.

Zhou Wang took the opportunity to pull her into his arms, gently patting her slender back, ”They’ve already gone to restore the power. It’s not appropriate to call them again... It’s okay, if you get used to it, you’ll find that there’s actually a bit of visibility here.”

Half-believing, Yu Duo opened her eyes in Zhou Wang’s embrace and found that, just as Zhou Wang said, there were indeed some emergency lights on the walls, though she hadn’t noticed them earlier due to their dimness.

After a slight adjustment, Yu Duo found she could still barely make out Zhou Wang’s outline, which eased her anxiety a bit, especially since she was now nestled in Zhou Wang’s warm embrace. The feeling of fear was gradually fading away.

”Zhou Wang, tell me a joke.”

Still slightly nervous, Yu Duo buried her head in Zhou Wang’s chest and said muffledly.

Zhou Wang paused and then hesitated, ”I’m not very good at that...”

”Just say anything, I have a low bar for jokes.”

”Alright then.”

Zhou Wang thought for a moment and said, ”A thug plunged a dagger deep into a man’s heart. One stab wasn’t enough so he stabbed a few more times, but the man didn’t die. Why?”

”Why?”

”Because the man’s heart was already in his throat.”

”...”

Yu Duo remained silent.

Zhou Wang grinned awkwardly, ”Wasn’t that funny? Let me tell another one. Do you know how many White Bone Demons there are in the world?”

”I don’t know.”

”There are 36 in total.”

”Why?”

”Because one dozen is twelve, and three dozen are ’White Bone Demons’... ”

”...”

Yu Duo fell silent again, just as Zhou Wang was lamenting his lack of talent for jokes, Yu Duo suddenly burst into laughter.

”Pfft, hahaha...”

Still with her head buried in Zhou Wang’s chest, Yu Duo shook with laughter, her shoulders trembling uncontrollably.

”The heart in the throat... That’s genius, hahaha...”

Yu Duo kept slapping Zhou Wang’s arm as if tears from laughter were coming out, ”And that one with the White Bone Demons, one dozen is twelve... Hahaha, you’re killing me... Zhou Wang, Zhou Wang, you’re a genius!”

”...”

Zhou Wang finally realized that Yu Duo didn’t find his jokes unfunny; it was just that her reaction time was slow, which led her to understand the cold jokes now.

Regardless, Yu Duo’s laughter significantly eased her inner tension, and after her laughter subsided, both fell into an unusual silence.

With fear dissipated and in the dark with only each other, another kind of atmosphere was unavoidably brewing.

At this moment, Zhou Wang lay sideways while Yu Duo’s small hand lightly rested on Zhou Wang’s waist, and Zhou Wang’s arm circled Yu Duo’s shoulders and back. The distance between them wasn’t entirely closed, but it was close enough.

The most important thing was that as their vision was weakened, their awareness of each other’s presence in other ways started to become keen.

Zhou Wang could smell the fragrance on Yu Duo, a mix of fresh bellflowers and lychee scent. He couldn’t distinguish which was her perfume and which was her shampoo. But amid these scents, Zhou Wang detected another distinctive smell.

That smell was a bit odd, neither pleasant nor unpleasant. If he had to describe it, it was like damp strawberries, though Zhou Wang didn’t actually know what damp strawberries should smell like.
