Stellar Slacker: I Thought This Was an Idle Game!

High noon arrived over the floating archipelago of Aethelgard with glorious, golden warmth.

The azure sky was spotless. Not a single cloud drifted from east to west.

Below the floating islands, white mist rolled like slow ocean waves. The midday light shimmered across the pearlescent silver fog.

Inside the kitchen of Solitude Spire, Barnaby sat on his cedar ceiling rafter.

The brass clockwork owl had finally recovered its composure.

It preened its brass wing feathers with its beak. Internal copper gears clicked in a peaceful purr.

Every few seconds, Barnaby glanced down at the pine table.

Felix Vance was sitting in his wooden chair, leaning his elbows on the smooth pine surface.

Under the wobbly left leg, the Sovereign Heart Seal remained firmly wedged. It kept the tabletop completely level.

Beside Felix’s elbow sat the pearlescent jade teapot.

To prevent stray drips, Felix put a folded cloth under the spout. His morning tea stayed neat felix took a comfortable sip from his mug, letting the warm amber tea soothe his throat.

”Much better,” Felix said with a satisfied nod. ”Napkin under the spout completely neutralizes the drip. Problem solved through superior player ingenuity.”

He set his mug down and rubbed his eyes.

”Time for an afternoon nap,” Felix murmured to the empty room. ”Four hours of morning activity is about three and a half hours too many.”

Outside on the back porch, Lyra Ashford stepped through the screen door.

She carried a wooden washbasin and a damp linen cloth, intending to wipe down the exterior porch railing.

After drinking half a cup of the Primordial Dragon-Bone tea, her entire physical body felt lighter than air.

Her Fifth-Tier cultivation was humming with crystal-clear vitality.

Her meridians felt as smooth as polished jade. The deep exhaustion that had plagued her vanished without a trace.

She took three steps down the porch path toward the vegetable patch.

And then, she froze.

The wooden washbasin slipped from her numb fingers.

Clatter.

It tumbled onto the gravel path, spilling cold water across the stones.

Lyra didn’t notice. Her amethyst eyes were locked onto the center of the dark garden loam, completely paralyzed by what stood before her.

”By the heavens...” Lyra whispered, her voice trembling so violently that the words barely left her lips.

In the center of the cabbage patch, the tiny, two-leaf green sprout was gone.

In its place stood a colossal, radiant golden blossom.

It rose four feet into the air on a thick, translucent emerald stalk that pulsed with living liquid light.

Nine massive, overlapping petals curled outward like the blooming crown of a celestial empress.

Each petal was the size of an imperial war-shield, forged from what appeared to be pure, crystallized sunlight.

Glowing geometric runes swirled across the golden petals. They spiraled in hypnotic orbits like tiny galaxies.

In the flower’s heart, pure golden nectar shimmered like molten topaz. Its sweet fragrance made Lyra catch her breath.

It smelled of wild mountain honey, ancient cinnamon, and celestial dew.

The moment the fragrance washed over the peak, the entire Seventh Spire responded.

Withered pine needles on the ancient trees instantly turned a vibrant, lustrous jade.

Wild clover and blossoms erupted across the rocky paths. They bloomed in emerald, violet, and crimson.

High above the cottage, seven rainbow rings arched over Solitude Spire like an imperial halo.

Lyra fell to her knees in the dirt, her trembling hands pressed against her chest.

The Nine-Petaled Sun-Lotus... Lyra thought, her mind swimming in pure, paralyzed awe.

The legendary First Ancestor’s Solar Lotus!

Imperial scrolls say this plant only blooms every ten thousand years under supreme celestial gravity! Lyra whispered.* Its petals can grant five centuries of life!* Lyra thought. It can purge any curse!

Lyra looked at the dark loam beneath the golden flower.* Last night, it was just a common vegetable seed,* she realized with mounting terror.* Then Senior Brother ignited the star in his chest.*

This novel’s true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

He bathed the garden in one hundred times planetary gravity.

He swatted six shadow masters with his straw slipper, releasing a localized kinetic vortex.

And then he summoned the Heavenly Dao’s pillar of selection!

The garden was never a vegetable patch!

It was a Divine Astral Incubator!

Three miles away, across the vast chasm separating the peaks, the other Six Spires were already losing their collective minds.

On the Fourth Spire—the Alchemical Crucible—the Grand Herbal Masters had rushed to their open balconies with brass scrying telescopes.

”Look at the western sky!” an ancient alchemist screamed, his hands shaking so hard he nearly dropped his crystal lens.

”The Seven-Colored Celestial Rainbow Halo! The scent of roasted solar amber!”

”Grandmaster!” a junior herbalist gasped, staring through a scrying mirror.

”On the Seventh Spire... in the yard of the abandoned cottage... a Nine-Petaled Sun-Lotus has bloomed!”

”Impossible!” the Grandmaster roared, his white beard bristling with fury and disbelief.

”The Sun-Lotus requires forty thousand spirit stones and the volcanic fire of a dying dragon to germinate! How could it bloom in the weed-choked yard of a mortal junk heap?!”

”The Master of Solitude Spire...” the junior disciple whispered in dread.

”He did not use volcanic fire. He used the True Yang Radiance of the Primordial Dawn!”

Across Radiant Dawn Academy, hundreds of elders and disciples gathered on balconies. They stared in awe at the golden beacon.

To the entire eastern realm, Solitude Spire was no longer an eyesore.

Solitude Spire was now holy ground. A cosmic entity protected it and grew divine medicines like common weeds.

Back on the porch of the cottage, the screen door squeaked open.

Felix Vance shuffled outside, holding his chipped mug in one hand.

He was wearing his loose hemp pajamas and his favorite frayed straw slippers. His hair was messy, and he was mid-yawn, stretching his other arm over his head.

He walked down the porch steps, intending to dump the remaining cold tea dregs into the compost heap.

Felix reached the bottom step. He caught sight of the glowing golden monstrosity in his garden.

Felix stopped dead in his tracks.

He blinked once.

He blinked twice.

The golden Inspector HUD flared to life over the colossal, glowing golden flower:

【Target: Mutated Golden Sun-Lotus】 【Original Template: Common Garden Cabbage (Brassica oleracea)】 【Grade: Divine Ninth-Tier Heavenly Flora】 【Evolutionary Cause: Extreme biological acceleration via extreme 100G localized gravitational pressure and dense planetary core resonance, 100G localized gravitational pressure, and celestial atmospheric fallout.】 【Properties: Ingesting a single petal permanently cures all spiritual curses, extends mortal lifespan by five centuries, and cleanses the soul veins. Sells to the junk vendor for 5 copper coins.】 【Inspector Note: Tastes exceptionally crisp when stir-fried with minced garlic, dried red chili, and a splash of soy sauce. Warning: Do not overcook in the wok, or the celestial vitamins will vaporize into the local atmosphere.】

Felix read through the text box with a look of profound, unadulterated exasperation.

His shoulders slumped.

”Are you kidding me?” Felix muttered, shaking his head.

”Look at this thing. It’s yellow!”

He walked over to the edge of the patch, staring down at the glowing golden petals.

”I knew it,” Felix complained aloud. ”I told myself I should have built a shade cloth over the garden yesterday. But no, I was too lazy, and now the afternoon sun has completely bleached the leaves.”

He rubbed the bridge of his nose, thoroughly disgusted by the sight.

”It looks like a giant, overgrown artichoke,” Felix grumbled. ”A cabbage is supposed to be green, round, and tightly wrapped. How am I supposed to shred this for dumplings? The leaves are the size of riot shields!”

Beside him, Lyra slowly raised her head from the dirt.

Her face was stained with fresh tears, her amethyst eyes wide with complete, uncomprehending shock.

”S-Senior Brother...” Lyra choked out, pointing a trembling finger at the golden lotus.

”You... you are upset with the Nine-Petaled Sun-Lotus?”

”Of course I’m upset!” Felix sighed, gesturing wildly at the four-foot golden plant.

”Look at the vendor price! Five copper coins! That’s only four coppers more than the starter seed! And look at the texture—it’s probably tough as an old boot!”

He crossed his arms, frowning at the glowing golden leaves.

”If I try to stir-fry this in my iron wok, it’s gonna take twenty minutes just to wilt,” Felix muttered. ”And the game tooltip literally warned me: Do not overcook, or the celestial vitamins will vaporize into the local atmosphere.”

Lyra froze.

Her mind seized on that single, incomprehensible word.

V-Vitamins...? Lyra echoed in her soul, her eyes bulging with spiritual dread.

What are... ’celestial vitamins’?!

Is that... the Primordial Particle of Creation?! The True Source of Cosmic Immortality that even Sovereign Archmages cannot grasp?!

He does not speak of spiritual mana or Dao runes.

He speaks of vitamins as if life and death are mere kitchen seasonings! Lyra shuddered.

Lyra’s forehead slammed back down onto the garden loam.

His Dao... his Dao is too deep! she wept internally. I am like a blind ant staring at the infinite cosmos!

Felix looked down at Lyra, who was currently face-down in the dirt for the third time today.

He scratched his messy brown hair with a bemused expression.

”Seriously, Lyra,” Felix said, offering a small, lazy shrug. ”If you like giant yellow artichokes, you can harvest half of it later. Just remember to mince the garlic really fine before you toss it in the pan. Otherwise the garlic burns before the leaves soften up.”

Lyra’s voice was muffled by the dark earth, trembling with pure, unyielding devotion.

”Your junior sister... obeys Senior Brother’s celestial decree...”

”Great,” Felix said, turning back toward the porch with a comfortable yawn. ”I’m going to take a nap. Try not to make too much noise raking the path.”

He shuffled back up the wooden steps, the worn soles of his straw slippers slapping gently against the cedar boards.

He pushed the screen door open. He walked into his dim bedroom and set his mug on the bedside table.

Barnaby sat on his rafter. He watched as Felix kicked off his slippers and flopped onto his mattress.

Felix reached under his pillow, pulled out the cracked obsidian slate, and tapped the glowing amber display.

He let his thumb fall from the screen.

Within thirty seconds, the quiet bedroom was filled with the rhythmic, peaceful sound of Felix Vance’s gentle snoring.

Outside, the golden Sun-Lotus swayed in the breeze. Rainbow clouds drifted across the sky above Aethelgard.

Sunlight shone down upon the Seventh Spire. The greatest cosmic terror in the realm happily dreamed of fried dumplings.
