Pillar of Yita

He turned his head and whispered to the person behind him, ”Tell the reporters they can come in, but they only have fifteen minutes. We’ll hold a small press conference right here.”

Several staff members immediately nodded and turned to leave.

Then Ambassador Liao turned back to face the young man on the screen and said, ”Our goal is very simple, Mr. Xiaya—”

”That is, we hope you do everything possible to stop Toragotos’s plans. We know it might be difficult, even... it may cost you your life, but,” the ambassador paused, ”I hope you seriously consider our proposal, because it’s the only hope and reliance of the hundreds of thousands of souls on Fenris Isle.”

”If you succeed, they have a great chance to survive.”

”And if you fail, the majority among these people will perish in the catastrophe.”

Fang Hong was stunned for a moment and interrupted, ”Wait, the lives of hundreds of thousands of people? Has the situation on Fenris gotten that dire?”

”You should be aware of the Aithelin disaster,” the ambassador asked, ”Fenris Isle is now facing a similar crisis. If Toragotos succeeds, it will be dragged into the Abyssal Sea, a place devoid of Starlight.”

Fang Hong swallowed hard.

He knew the situation was urgent, but he had never imagined it to be this dire.

No wonder the military was involved, but to have the entire Fenris Isle, two towns, and the lives of hundreds of thousands resting on his shoulders...

Fang Hong suddenly felt the weight of the pressure, almost suffocating.

Therefore, he remained silent for a good while.

Could he do it?

He naturally did not have absolute confidence in his heart.

Seeing his hesitation, the ambassador spoke softly,

”Mr. Xiaya, we know we shouldn’t compel anyone to sacrifice for strangers they’ve never met, just as we understand that every life is equally valuable, no one more noble than another—”

”But do you still remember the oath we all took on the ’Stargate Declaration’?”

Fang Hong shook his head.

How could he forget? The oath that the first generation of Invokers had taken on the ”Stargate Declaration,” because it was that glorious era that had left behind the footsteps he aspired to follow.

What could be more precious than life, worth sacrificing for?

He looked up, into the depths of his view was deep darkness; he was not clear whether his journey would end within these ruins.

However, his answer was already clear. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, on the multiple screens in the hall, the young man looked at each person present and simply nodded his head lightly.

He answered softly,

”I understand.”

Perhaps no one knew what he understood.

But in the hall, there was already a chorus of relieved voices, and even Ambassador Liao couldn’t help but nod, stand up tall, and give him a gentle round of applause.

Fang Hong wasn’t much stirred inside, simply saying, ”But I will need the help of the command center.”

”We will certainly do our utmost to provide all the support you want,” Ambassador Liao nodded solemnly, ”whether it’s materials or intelligence.”

Amidst a noisy clamor of discussions—

Sophie gazed at the young man in the Light Page, also learning for the first time that the situation on Fenris Isle had become this tense, but all this was overshadowed by the choice the young man made at this moment—

—and the shock it caused in her heart.
