Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1409 - 702: Good News and Bad News

”So that means, of the invaders’ four giant ships, there’s only one left now?”

Xu Ying looked completely incredulous, muttering, ”For real?”

”We need to go back down.”

Xu Xin glanced around.

”Now that the leader of the alien invaders has returned, it’ll definitely find out what happened inside this World Tree. It’ll very likely go check the Scarlet Crystals.”

They had to go back.

At the very least, they needed to warn the people below.

And here...

The Scarlet Crystals here needed to be destroyed as well.

But not yet.

These non-concentrated Scarlet Crystals were much softer, and their melting point was lower too. One nuclear weapon on its own would basically be enough to completely wipe them out.

As for that concentrated Scarlet Crystal...

”Leave it here for now.”

Seeing Xu Xin look toward the crystal covered by the black cloth, Xu Ying suggested.

”The crystal isn’t that big. I checked just now—this crystal was literally just sitting here. We could just pack it up and take it directly.”

They could take the crystal directly...

Xu Xin nodded. ”Alright, then we’ll leave it here for now.”

Even though they could take it now, no one could guarantee the leader wouldn’t come back to this room.

If they took this Scarlet Crystal away now and the leader returned to find it stolen, the whole situation would basically spiral out of control.

Before they detonated that giant concentrated Scarlet Crystal, they had to tread carefully.

”Once we finish the job down below, before we detonate that giant concentrated crystal, we’ll come back here and plant a few nuclear warheads.” Xu Xin said, ”And then we’ll grab this concentrated Scarlet Crystal on the way out.”

”That’s what I was thinking too.” Xu Ying’s brows lifted slightly as she spoke.

”Let’s head back first.”

”We’ll take a look outside first. See if any giant ship has come back.”

”Got it.”

...

In the World Tree’s underground space, beside the concentrated Scarlet Crystal.

The Red Mist was still swirling.

It hadn’t faded at all, not even the slightest sign of thinning.

Meanwhile Zhao Xiaochuan and the others had already made huge progress.

”We should be about done, right?” Wen Guixin pressed one hand against the body of one of the alien invader temp workers. ”We’ve already bored a lot of warhead shafts inside.”

”Not enough.”

Right now Zhao Xiaochuan was refining the tunnels dug out by the three alien invaders.

Hearing Wen Guixin, he spoke without looking back. ”The internal lower-middle section of the Scarlet Crystal still isn’t fully covered.”

”So how much longer do we need?”

Zeng Tao was currently pinning one of the alien invaders down.

This alien invader had suddenly lost control just now, so she’d stepped in.

”An hour. At least an hour.”

Zhao Xiaochuan wiped the sweat from his forehead.

”Even an hour won’t get us to a perfect state. Two hours would be best.”

”Uh... that’s still doable.” Wen Guixin said.

Her hand left the alien invader’s body.

And this once again-corroded alien invader started wobbling back to work.

”Sister Gui Xin, this one! I can’t hold it down! It’s really strong, and so slippery!”

Zeng Tao was pressing the alien invader beneath her with all her strength.

But this alien’s strength was a bit beyond what she’d expected. It wasn’t stronger than her, but the moment all the eyes over its body squeezed shut, it tried to slide right out from under her.

Wen Guixin simply stomped down on the alien invader.

Then the black Slime suddenly shriveled, and in less than two seconds turned into a dried-up film.

”Ah... this one’s dead too.”

Zeng Tao got up from the ground and brushed the crumbs off her knees.

The crumbs of the alien invader’s shriveled, shattered body.

Annoyed, she kicked the alien invader’s dried corpse.

In an instant the corpse broke apart into dust.

Then, under the illumination of the Scarlet Crystal, it was as if it ignited and burned away, completely vanishing.

”That’s the second one already. We only have the last one left now...”

Wen Guixin sighed as she looked at the alien invader she’d just managed to keep alive.

Even this one was clearly in bad shape.

”If it dies, it dies.”

Zeng Tao picked up the cutter the alien invader had been using.

”As long as the cutter still works, we’re fine. So... I’ll use this cutter?”

”Then... go help Lou Fei’Er.”

”Okay!”

Zeng Tao took the cutter and squeezed out of the hollow, emerging outside the Scarlet Crystal.

After the first alien invader died, Lou Fei’Er had taken over its job.

Right now she was cutting away in another tunnel.

”This one won’t last much longer either, huh?”

Zhao Xiaochuan rubbed his wrist. ”Didn’t expect that Brother Xin had barely left when one died, and now another one’s gone.”

”Nothing we can do.”

Wen Guixin let out a sigh.

Honestly, if these alien invaders had stayed in their original state, she could’ve kept them alive for quite a while.

But the problem was, the one-time protective film they had over their bodies had gradually stopped working under the intense glow of the Scarlet Crystal in the Red Mist.

That left them exposed directly to the crystal’s light.

To light that had been amplified by the Red Mist.

Which led to the situation they had now.

”Why don’t we just kill this one too and be done with it.”

Zhao Xiaochuan sliced off a chunk of Scarlet Crystal, stowed it away, then turned to her and said.
