Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1404 - 700: The Invaders’ Palace and Traps (Part 2)

”There’s a mechanism here.” Xu Xin surveyed the surroundings.

This corridor was incredibly luxurious and indulgent, adorned with golden decorations and various precious gems.

”These golden decorations... are they mechanisms?” He squinted.

”I’m guessing they are.”

Xu Ying shrugged, then pointed to a gold decoration.

”Look at the gold decoration, within the scarlet crystal, can’t you vaguely see some shadows?”

Xu Xin looked carefully.

These scarlet crystals emitted a soft glow but were not clear and even extremely chaotic, making it basically impossible to see through them.

But if you look closely, indeed, behind each wall ornament, such as behind a decorative chandelier, you could see a hazy shadow.

”I think that should be the mechanism.”

Xu Ying glanced down at the ornate baseboard.

”I was observing this earlier. I feel like if it weren’t for the cloak we have on, the moment the door closes, we might get riddled with holes or scorched by fire, or... anyway, there could be all sorts of different mechanisms here.”

Quite a few different mechanisms...

Xu Xin observed around and nodded, ”It seems likely.”

”Even we can open this door, but the leader of the alien invaders couldn’t let such a large area of scarlet crystal be so easily accessible, even if this entire tree might be its ’mistress.’

This scarlet corridor might be quite alluring to the alien invaders.

If anyone can enter, that would be chaos.

And it’s not just those idle ’mistresses’ who can enter here.

Previously, the two of them followed a leader of the alien invaders... probably a military officer, using its vine ball elevator to enter here.

That military officer convened some alien invaders down after they came up.

Those alien invaders should be responsible for maintaining order within this world tree.

Equivalent to... palace guards?

Those alien invaders generally only operated near the small area where they arrived via the elevator.

The two barely distanced themselves from the elevator entrance, encountering only these carefree nobles.

But those armed ’palace guards’ could still come over here.

Therefore, those ’palace guards’ might be tempted to breach in here.

This place can’t be unguarded.

Thus, these seemingly grand decorations might be lethal mechanisms.

This corridor built with scarlet crystals might be a trap aimed at alien invaders.

”Just speculating. If sister-in-law were here, she might easily spot any mechanisms within these walls.” Xu Ying suggested, ”Should we bring her up to take a look?”

”Forget it.” Xu Xin stopped Xu Ying, ”It’s too dangerous here. Don’t bring her up.”

Wenxi hardly has any means to protect herself; she’s safer below.

She needs her abilities to observe the foggy conditions below.

After all, destroying the condensed scarlet crystal beneath is the purpose of their mission.

And having just Xu Xin and Xu Ying is actually just right.

Even in danger, Xu Ying can grab him and instantly teleport.

However, if there were three, they might get separated, increasing risk if Xu Ying needs to grab two people to teleport.

”But here’s scarlet crystal too.” Xu Ying pointed upward, then at the ground, ”We need to destroy this scarlet crystal here as well, right?”

”... Let’s assess first. If we’re not in danger, then we’ll bring Wenxi to look around.”

Xu Xin furrowed his brows slightly.

How should they destroy this above-ground...

”Brother, you’re really concerned for sister-in-law!” Xu Ying teased.

Xu Xin glanced at her, ”Alright, hurry up, there might be things you want ahead.”

”Oh right, this is the treasure trove of the alien invader leader!”

Both picked up the pace a bit.

But they dared not move too quickly, lest the mechanisms hidden within this corridor target them.

They finally crossed the opulent corridor, reaching the corner at its end.

Turning the corner, they saw another door.

Similar to the entrance.

This door appeared much newer and cleaner than the entrance.

The patterns on the door were dust-free, void of climbing vines.

The metal door reflected a fierce red glow around the scarlet crystal illumination.

The red glow within the patterns was even stronger.

”These patterns seem to light up on their own, don’t they?” Xu Ying scrutinized it, shielding it slightly, ”Indeed, the pattern on the door emits light itself. And...”

They glanced at the door seam.

The door was slightly ajar.

Only one side of the double door seemed capable of movement.

It was slightly closed, revealing a gap.

There were no buttons on either side of the door.

Does this door require brute force to push open?

”Let’s see what’s inside first!”

Xu Ying approached the door, trying to peer through the gap.

”Yipe!”

At this moment, Keke, who had been nestling in Xu Xin’s arms with only two fluffy ears showing, suddenly poked his head halfway out and cried anxiously towards Xu Ying.

”Yingying, come back!”

Xu Xin’s heart skipped a beat.
