Elon, what’s wrong with you?The dividends from the Age of Discovery have sustained the West until today.

While engineers in Dragon Country work themselves to death, their Western counterparts enjoy leaving on time and long paid vacations every year.

In stark contrast, engineers in Dragon Country work through the night, prioritizing efficiency above all else. They are eager to discuss proposals with clients late into the night, and prototypes made overnight are often shipped out via express delivery the very same evening.

Do you think there’s a gap in professional quality between the engineers on both sides? There’s no damn gap at all.

It is precisely because of this relentless competition from latecomers that Dragon Country has been able to seize the initiative in new fields like New Energy and AI.

In emerging fields represented by New Energy and AI, the West lacks extensive patent barriers, and under fair competition, their efficiency makes complete defeat inevitable.

Some might have reservations about this intense competition, but the truth is, the current problems are not caused by the competition; the competition is a result, not a cause. If there were no competition, the current problems would only be more severe.

As the best proof, one only needs to look back a decade or so.

Today’s anti-Dragon Country elements are not on the same level as their predecessors from back then; the gap in their combat effectiveness can be described as heaven and earth.

The competition is a helpless necessity for survival. It’s painful, yet unavoidable.

So how can one avoid the pain? By outcompeting everyone else to death. Crushing those fragmented small countries with scale, suppressing their industrial chains in the mid-to-low end, and then we, in turn, collect technology taxes from them. At that point, this world will be much better.

Lin Yuan has always yearned for this day, which is why he so appreciates DS Company, which is passionate about open source.

Openness is currently most beneficial to Dragon Country because Dragon Country has an industrial cluster advantage. This advantage is not merely a simple price advantage, but a comprehensive advantage after a thorough comparison. This is actually the gunboat diplomacy of the West back in the day.

And given Europa’s current situation, its New Energy industry is lagging, and it has almost no achievements in the AI field.

Lin Yuan can already envision Europa’s future: living off past gains, living off past gains, and once those are depleted, they’ll only be able to gnaw on themselves. And with their fragmented tribal identities, just imagining it makes the scene seem beautiful.

Lin Yuan not only thought this way, he actually acted on it. His help to DS Company in improving its AI large language model was a small step in promoting this trend.

DS Company quickly released version R1 in the following days, but the open-source release of DS-R1 did not immediately cause any stir. Lin Yuan even felt a bit dazed looking at DS Company’s open-source homepage on GitHub.

The black technology produced by the computing power system was just sitting there, all alone.

How to describe this feeling... It’s like a piece of gold covered in mud left by the roadside, but people currently haven’t realized its value. As a foreseer, Lin Yuan quietly waited.

He didn’t even bother to download DS-R1 to test it, because the R1 version required significantly more VRAM than the LLM version, and he didn’t want to waste time setting up a test platform again.

The main reason was that DS Company had already completed its own tests, and its GitHub open-source homepage already listed detailed comparisons between DS-R1 and other models represented by ChatGPT.

Lin Yuan believed that DS Company wouldn’t be foolish enough to fabricate test results, and besides, judging from DS Company’s past open-source project style, they weren’t that kind of company.

Watching the daily increase in stars and forks on DS Company’s open-source project, Lin Yuan was very clear about one thing: even if the current attention was increasing slowly, gold would always shine. And the shining of gold would be explosive.

Once the first person discovers it’s a piece of gold, that person’s shouting will instantly draw everyone’s attention.

As Lin Yuan quietly waited, an unexpected thing happened—Musk actually reached out to him, asking Lin Yuan to help test a newly developed AI large language model.

Lin Yuan, out of curiosity, continued the conversation. Musk said he had been too busy recently and was no longer actively involved with OpenAI. Moreover, it was a significant holiday in Eagle Country that day, so the stock market was closed, and many large companies were on vacation. Thus, Musk couldn’t find anyone to organize the tests.

Lin Yuan checked, and coincidentally, it really was Martin’s holiday that day, and the Eagle Country stock market was indeed closed.

Afterward, Musk sent the AI large language model he needed help testing, and Lin Yuan was stunned, because what Musk wanted him to test was precisely DS-R1.

What could Lin Yuan say? He originally intended to use this to set a trap for the other party, but the other party came running to him with the trap, asking for help testing it.

No wonder Musk was so anxious, wanting Lin Yuan to produce results in just two or three hours, and even promising a reward of tens of millions of US dollars.

At this moment, Lin Yuan was most curious about where Musk had focused his attention on DS-R1. After a brief thought, Lin Yuan also realized that DS Company was not simple, because choosing to release the R1 version at the critical juncture of a market closure made Lin Yuan feel it was too much of a coincidence.

Was it to give the market enough time to react?

Lin Yuan pondered how he should reply to Musk. Telling the truth was obviously impossible; who would honestly help someone after being tricked by them?

But directly deceiving the other party didn’t seem right either. What if Musk suffered a huge loss because of it? Wouldn’t he hold a grudge against himself? Lin Yuan wouldn’t dig such a big pit for himself.

So, he simply found an excuse—testing this model would take at least two days.

As Lin Yuan expected, after hearing the two-day reply, Musk did not continue the conversation.

This also confirmed Lin Yuan’s guess—Musk had already perceived the impact of DS-R1’s release on the next day’s stock market, and thus he could not accept the test results coming out after the market opened.

Finally, Lin Yuan didn’t forget to tease Musk: ”Aren’t the test results already written there? Everything is open.”

Indeed, DS Company had already published the test results for the R1 version when they open-sourced it. However, no one could simply believe the test results published by the developer, but Lin Yuan told Musk: ”How about a bet? I’m willing to believe DS Company’s test results.”

Lin Yuan was confident that even if he danced on the knife’s edge and hinted to this extent, Musk would not believe his joke before seeing the actual test results. After all, the major AI companies in Eagle Country had market capitalizations of trillions of US dollars; they wouldn’t make decisions based on a joke.

Musk, across the ocean, immediately began a careful verification based on the business intelligence provided by the FBI, because there was no time to organize tests; the market was opening tomorrow. If this intelligence was true, then the bloodthirsty major investment banks in Eagle Country had already prepared their ammunition, just waiting to dump shares after the market opened.

These are the financial industry practitioners in Eagle Country; they have no nationality. In short, they do whatever makes money, even if it means crashing their own country’s tech leaders. Making money, it’s not shameful. What’s the fate of Eagle Country worth anyway?

Even though Musk despised these people, he was no stranger to joining them. Because if he didn’t make this money, plenty of others would.

So after careful consideration, he made a rational decision—to short the leading Eagle Country AI stocks, represented by NVIDIA.
