Algorithm system

Just rightLin Yuan refocused his attention on the private message.

”We specifically wanted to inform you that our upcoming open-source initiative is highly likely to cause a tremor in the international AI market, especially in the computing power card sector.

This is because, based on your suggestions, we have significantly reduced the computational demands for training.

Therefore, you might want to prepare to short sell now. This is, of course, merely our suggestion.

Because we always believe you are a person of noble character. But this is one of the few ways we can repay your kindness...”

The DS Company was quite considerate; after receiving Lin Yuan’s suggestions, they returned the favor by informing Lin Yuan that, based on their calculations, there was an opportunity to short sell the AI sector.

But in fact, Lin Yuan had originally given the DS Company advice precisely to short sell The Other Shore’s AI sector.

This made Lin Yuan feel a bit embarrassed, as the DS Company had praised him so much in the letter that he himself couldn’t bear it.

However, none of that was important; what was important was that Lin Yuan really did put all one hundred million that Musk gave him in the Eagle Country stock market into the short sell.

Lin Yuan also added ten times leverage, which meant that profits would be magnified tenfold, as would losses.

Musk even joked with Lin Yuan: after losing that hundred million, he might as well come work for him, or simply take the hundred million to a casino in Las Vegas, where spending it would feel more impactful.

Lin Yuan simply replied calmly, ”I genuinely intend to short sell your country’s AI sector, represented by NVIDIA.”

To Musk, this was clearly unbelievable. Short sell NVIDIA? What a joke; which company in the world has GPU computing power cards as outstanding as theirs?

Without a competitor, why short sell NVIDIA? By sheer will? Musk admitted that even he couldn’t short sell NVIDIA.

However, late one night, sometime later...

Just as Musk and the Old Boy at Mar-a-Lago were hotly discussing how to proceed with the Efficiency Department’s work, the Old Boy suddenly asked him a question—”Elon, has your OpenAI been having problems recently?”

Musk was puzzled because the Old Boy had just taken office and shouldn’t have had the energy to care about OpenAI-related matters.

”My King, why are you concerned about this issue?”

”Oh, the FBI gave me some information to beg for mercy. You know, Elon, the FBI is very afraid of me now, terribly afraid. But they don’t seem to be entirely honest; they actually told me that your OpenAI is likely to face significant losses and advised you to pay attention in advance.”

Musk pursed his lips with a speechless expression, ”Come on! Do those guys even understand what AI is?”

”I think so too. They said a few international investment banks have discovered a strong competitor to OpenAI. It’s ridiculous, Elon, I’ve never heard such a funny joke.”

Musk chuckled along, taking the document from the Old Boy’s hand.

Whether out of curiosity or caution, Musk still carefully examined the document.

The document roughly described a very vague situation: essentially, several FBI informants within major investment banks had reported the same news—their respective major investment banks had suddenly become bearish on Eagle Country’s AI sector and were urgently raising funds to aggressively short sell.

As for specific analytical details, there were none at all. In short, these investment banks suddenly, for no apparent reason, wanted to short sell Eagle Country’s AI sector.

Musk found this utterly laughable, ”My King, it seems we really need to cut down on the expenses of these intelligence agencies. Look at their work, sending over such baseless rumors as intelligence.”

”Elon, this is them being scared; they are afraid of us, so they panicked. I really like this display from them; they truly should be afraid. We should praise them; we should encourage this behavior.

However, we also need to warn them not to expect to fool us with such fake news again in the future; they need to produce genuine things. Just like, just like when they investigated my Mar-a-Lago, they need to show that same drive; they need to perform well.”

”My King, you are absolutely right.”

As Musk concurred, the corner of his eye caught a mention of an open-source project on GitHub in one corner of a page within the stack of intelligence he held.

Again, whether out of curiosity or caution, he quickly typed the URL into his phone, intending to check out the project.

According to the intelligence, this open-source project was extracted by an agent from internal documents at their investment bank. The reason it was included in the intelligence was because their investment bank had frequently mentioned this project in recent internal meetings.

Musk opened it and saw the first glance, his expression immediately changing. Because this open-source project was indeed an AI large language model project, which instantly caught his attention.

One must know that if those FBI guys really put their professionalism into it, they aren’t a bunch of freeloaders.

Musk quickly found the key point in the project description—this AI large language model claimed to have very low computational requirements, less than one-tenth of ChatGPT-4, and thus the logical chain connected.

Because this model’s computational requirements were extremely low, it would cause a huge shock to Eagle Country’s AI sector, and so the shameless investment banks in Eagle Country were preparing to short sell their own AI tech stocks.

This was logically sound, and the only key point was whether this model truly had the extremely low computational cost it claimed in its project description document.

This couldn’t be guessed; it had to be tested.

If such a thing happened in Dragon Country, the script would be that the company’s technical backbone would be called in overnight, and everyone would roll up their sleeves to test this model deep into the night.

But damn it, this was in the Great Eagle Country; they didn’t have a tradition of working in the middle of the night. Private time was sacred and inviolable. Who cared if the company went bankrupt or if there were layoffs? At most, they’d cry when layoffs happened; anyway, overtime was impossible. Even if Eagle Country’s R&D personnel were paid extremely high salaries, they absolutely wouldn’t work overtime for you.

Perhaps this was another extreme. Musk could only wait until the next day to organize people for testing. Then, he suddenly remembered that the next day was a holiday.

Damn it, he really wanted to curse.

But then, he suddenly realized that this might very well be the masterpiece of the masterminds behind the scenes. The people manipulating this intentionally released this algorithm on a holiday, giving various financial institutions enough time to brew, because the Eagle Country stock market was currently closed. At the same time, it didn’t give tech companies like OpenAI enough time to react, because most of their engineers were on holiday.

Financial industry professionals never truly have a holiday, because the financial industry changes rapidly. Top investment bank professionals maintain real-time contact with the outside world even on holiday; essentially, they work while on holiday.

But damn it, IT industry engineers don’t care about any of that. When I’m on holiday, I’m on holiday; no one bother me.

At this point, Musk instinctively felt a chill down his spine, because everything was simply too coincidental. Both the entry point of this algorithm and the timing chosen seemed perfectly opportune.
