New Ability Every Ten Days: Becoming a Vampire Made Me Too OP

Yu Xian was surprised. He had only been trying a gamble. ”It actually worked!”

Just now, through scent, he had seen everything the Xingtian Zombie King had experienced in the past. Perhaps because the Xingtian Zombie King had originally been a commander, after he became a Xingtian Warrior, his obedience to commands was exceptionally high.

It was only because Yu Xian saw how disciplined the Xingtian Zombie King used to be when he was a Xingtian Warrior—obeying every command down to the letter—that he had decided to take a gamble and roar out the directives.

Looking at Zhou Shaoyang standing perfectly straight now, Yu Xian felt deeply shaken. He also felt sincere admiration. This warrior from four hundred years ago had shaken him to his very soul.

His unwavering will of steel has not been worn down in the slightest, even by time itself.

It was because of these predecessors, their selfless dedication, their sacrifice, and their iron wills that Silver City enjoyed the prosperity it had today. Fortunately, they had carried the burden forward in silence four hundred years ago. Four hundred years later, countless like-minded heroes were still quietly giving everything and pressing onward with determination.

Photographs of Yu Bo and the other fallen heroes from the memorial flashed through Yu Xian’s mind. Death no longer seemed quite so frightening to him. After experiencing battles of life and death and personally witnessing partings between the living and the dead, he felt that he had truly grown.

He remembered the quote ”Death comes to all men, but it may be weightier than Mount Tai or lighter than a feather.”[1]. If forced to choose between a shameful compromise for survival or a glorious, honorable death, he would surely find the courage to fight to the bitter end, if only to protect everyone he held dear behind him.

Below, Yu Lie stared at the Xingtian Zombie King in disbelief. Even his Heavenly Eye was widening. The Xingtian Warrior’s operational directives are still effective?

During their meeting, they had considered all kinds of battle plans and even thought about their final fallback measures, but none of them had ever imagined that the commands tied to the operational directives would still work.

Hua Qiang quickly turned and retreated. He took a coagulation spray from his spatial ring and sprayed it over his head. Only then did he look back at the Xingtian Zombie King with lingering shock. Just now, he had come within a hair’s breadth of dying a heroic death. The others surrounded it as well, but none of them dared to get too close to the zombie.

Yu Lie and Xu Hebai descended from the sky. Yu Lie took the lead, slowly approached the zombie, and circled it once. Then he turned to the others. ”It’s safe!”

Everyone stepped forward one after another, looking at the Xingtian Zombie King with amazement.

”If I remember correctly, Xingtian Warriors were at Bee rank. After death, they could reach Serpent rank. I never expected that once a Xingtian Warrior became a Zombie King, it could become this powerful.”

”I used to think zombies reanimated from martial artists and supernatural beings were troublesome enough. Turns out, there’s always a bigger fish in the pond.”

”My arrows couldn’t even pierce its bones. Good thing Little Fish was clever, or I really would have died a heroic death back there.”

Although these were all Dragon-rank powerhouses, the gap between them and the Xingtian Zombie King was simply too great. All of them had unleashed a storm of attacks on the zombie, yet aside from numerous scratches on its armor, the Xingtian Zombie King itself was almost unharmed. Even when its skin was scratched, it healed quickly.

Now, the problem before everyone was how to deal with the Xingtian Zombie King. After confirming that it would remain standing at attention as long as no new orders were given, everyone saluted it. Then they left one person behind to keep watch, while the rest returned to headquarters through Yu Xian’s bubble.

After they returned to the conference room, a discussion was held. In the end, they decided to send the Xingtian Zombie King to the Supernatural Containment Facility. Until the zombie will inside Zhou Shaoyang’s body was dealt with, Qilin would not deploy the zombie in battle.

They also discussed Yu Xian’s contributions to this battle. He had discovered the Xingtian Zombie King’s command in time and prevented Hua Qiang from dying a heroic death. Moreover, he had been the one to discover the Xingtian Zombie King and teleport it to the suburbs. This time, he was basically guaranteed a First-Class merit.

Looking at Yu Xian, who was seated at the very end of the table, Hua Qiang kindly said, ”Little Fish, what do you want this time? As long as headquarters can get it, you can ask for it. If you don’t have enough merit points, I’ll cover the difference.”

Before this, everyone in this room had merely admired Yu Xian. But after fighting alongside him, that admiration had become closeness and trust.

Although Yu Xian’s rank was low and he could not withstand much damage, he was far too reliable. Whether it was his spatial ability or his mind, both were very useful. He was worthy of all these individuals’ trust.

Yu Xian thought for a moment. ”Director, Chiefs, can I exchange my merit points for money and donate it to the families of our fallen comrades? If any of them are having difficulties, I want to help them.”

Xiao Cheng snapped at him. ”What do you take Qilin for? For every member who sacrifices their life, we take care of their family. Keep your merit points for yourself.”

Hua Qiang added, ”Qilin will never let its warriors bleed and then weep as well. Once someone has fallen, their family becomes our family. You can rest assured of that.”

Yu Lie smiled. ”To be honest, I’m very glad and relieved that Little Fish is so thoughtful. This time, I’ll make the decision and give the Dragon Shield to Little Fish. What do you all think?”

Everyone looked at the director in shock. ”Dragon Shield!”

Hua Qiang laughed. ”That’s good. It does suit Little Fish. I approve!”

Xiao Cheng immediately said, ”I approve as well!”

The others looked at one another. In the end, they gradually agreed to Yu Lie’s proposal.

Yu Lie laughed. ”Since everyone here agrees, then it’s settled. From now on, the Dragon Shield belongs to Little Fish. None of you is allowed to covet it anymore.”

The others sighed helplessly, while Hua Qiang and Xiao Cheng both smiled.

Curious, Yu Xian could not help asking, ”Um. What exactly is the Dragon Shield?”

Hua Qiang smiled. ”The Dragon Shield’s full name is the Reverse-Scale Dragon Shield. You should have heard the saying, ’A dragon has a reverse scale. Touch it, and you die.’ That’s mainly because the reverse scale protects a dragon’s weakness. You could say it’s the hardest scale on a dragon’s body.

”In the Abyss, there is a dragon species known as the Shield Dragon. Its reverse scales are said to be indestructible. We spent several hundred years and invested enormous manpower and resources to collect three thousand reverse scales from Shield Dragons. In the end, we forged them into the ultimate defensive gear, the Reverse-Scale Dragon Shield.”

Xiao Cheng added, ”Most importantly, the core of the Reverse-Scale Dragon Shield is a Divine Core from the Abyss. That’s something only God-rank powerhouses possess, and it has unlimited growth potential. Once you bind it with your blood, the Reverse-Scale Dragon Shield will continue growing alongside you. Right now, you are Serpent rank, while the Reverse-Scale Dragon Shield is God rank. That means its defensive performance will always remain five ranks above yours!”

Yu Xian was indeed deeply tempted. He could not bring himself to refuse at all, but at the same time, he was afraid that he was not worthy of the Dragon Shield. One thing is certain. Since Qilin went to such lengths to forge the Dragon Shield, it must have been intended for someone extremely important. Do I really have the right to keep it?

Yu Lie stood up and smiled at everyone. ”All right. Since everything that needed to be said has been said, the meeting is adjourned. Little Fish, come with me.”

Before leaving, Hua Qiang patted Yu Xian’s bubble and smiled. ”Don’t feel burdened. Right now, you are Qilin’s most important talent. You have even greater strategic value than Little One[2]. You deserve the Dragon Shield!”

Xiao Cheng also patted Yu Xian’s bubble. ”Don’t worry and accept it. This is a decision everyone agreed on.”

Xu Hebai followed and patted Yu Xian’s bubble too. He smiled at Yu Xian, then came Cheng Caitian, and then...

After everyone had left, Yu Lie smiled at Yu Xian. ”Come with me.”

They left the conference room, but this time, they did not head upward. Instead, they followed a staircase downward. Yu Xian walked beside Yu Lie, faintly sensing that the space around them was changing. Although they were clearly walking downward, their position was actually shifting again and again.

Even with his affinity for spatial energy, he was starting to feel disoriented. He even began to wonder whether he was still on the Blue Planet at all. Did we somehow end up on a planet hundreds of light-years away again?

1. This is a famous quote by ancient historian Sima Qian. To die a death weightier than Mount Tai means to sacrifice oneself for a deeply meaningful, honorable purpose. ☜

2. Little One here refers to Gong Qian. The higher-ups at Qilin call her by that nickname, just like how they call Yu Xian ”Little Fish. ☜
