Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Anthem of Passion

”Got it!”

Bai Yifan nodded in agreement.

In many novels, the protagonists mess up because they trust their friends!

Leng Yebai’s eyes flickered with a complex emotion, and the scenes from the dream resurfaced before him.

Leng Yebai slightly tightened his fingers, his expression calm and composed.

This time, he would not give anyone the chance!

”Let’s eat first!”

Wang Yiyun looked at Bai Anhai.

”Sure!”

Bai Anhai immediately got up from the driver’s seat and swiftly ran to the narrow kitchen to get busy.

There was pre-cooked food in the fridge, Bai Anhai just needed to heat it up.

The rich aroma wafted out through the window.

Occasionally, someone would glance inside from the window but quickly turn away, pretending not to notice.

Because Leng Yebai stood by the window with a cold expression, exuding an aura that said, ”Do not approach.”

More than an hour of rest quickly passed, and the green garbage truck resumed its journey forward.

A long convoy followed behind the green garbage truck, moving slowly.

The wind power plant was in a desolate area, located between S City and Z City. In the early days of the apocalypse, it seemed like a safe place.

From afar, you could see the huge three-bladed wind turbines, which had stopped turning.

Massive white fans stood tall, and occasionally, you could see birds perching on them.

Before, this was a graveyard for birds; the spinning blades were like guillotines to them.

Now, in just two days, bird droppings had appeared on the white blades.

The gate of the wind power plant was open, and you could faintly see dark red bloodstains at the entrance.

Wherever there are people, there might be zombies.

The green garbage truck stopped a bit further from the gate.

Then, the convoy also slowly came to a stop.

’Sister, you sit at the bow, brother, I’ll walk ashore, singing songs of love so gentle—’

A powerful folk song suddenly blasted from the garbage truck.

The sound was deafening.

One must admit, Uncle Wang’s taste in music was rather avant-garde decades ago.

The green garbage truck slowly drove into the wind power plant, while the police car behind remained stationary.

The police car rolled down a window, revealing the black muzzle of a gun.

Roar—

From the wind power plant, three zombies in work clothes came rushing out, heading straight for the green garbage truck.

They mistook the noisy garbage truck for prey.

Uncle Wang remained unperturbed, leisurely lighting a cigarette and pressing the accelerator to the floor with his feet clad in cotton slippers. The green garbage truck surged forward like a green beast, charging directly at the three zombies.

”Roar—”

The three zombies, with ferocious expressions, showed no sign of fear, even thinking they would feast on fresh blood.

Bam—

The three zombies crashed simultaneously into the front of the garbage truck, tracing a perfect arc through the air.

Smack!

They landed on the ground.

The three zombies twitched violently for a moment, then died.

”Thankfully, it’s the apocalypse; otherwise, I’d be in jail forever!”

Uncle Wang glanced at the three motionless zombies on the ground, then calmly continued driving into the power plant.

”Embrace, embrace, carry my sister into the wedding sedan!”

Uncle Wang updated the song, now playing the rousing folk song ”The Big Flower Sedan” on the loudspeaker.

Amidst the contagious song ’Embrace,’ a zombie emerged from nowhere and embraced the green garbage truck.

Then, it perished under the massive impact of the truck.

The spirited folk song looped several times in the power plant, only then did Uncle Wang use the loudspeaker to call outside.

”Xiao Zhu, it’s done!”

Uncle Wang’s voice was bold and cheerful, a bright smile on his face.

Five or six people wearing police uniforms gradually got out of the police car. The leading middle-aged man slightly bowed to Uncle Wang, then led the team to search the wind power plant.

The wind power plant wasn’t very large, just a three-story building with only a few electricians maintaining the machinery.

With the Spring Festival approaching, only the on-duty staff remained.

On the second floor, a zombie ignored the commotion downstairs, frantically biting at a closed door.

Captain Zhu came up and dispatched it with a single shot.

”You inside, come out! It’s safe now!”

Captain Zhu kicked open the door. It was too dark inside to see clearly, so he held the gun aimed at the pitch-black room.

”Is... is the army here?”

The voice of a man inside trembled slightly.

”Not the army, we’re police from S City.” Captain Zhu squinted inside, the gun in his hand still pointed at the room.

”Pol...ice?”

The man’s voice sounded somewhat excited.

There was a noise inside, and then a slender man appeared at the door.

The man’s hand had red bloody marks, and he seemed very dispirited overall.

”What happened to your hand?”

Captain Zhu squinted his eyes, the gun pointed straight at the man’s head.

”This, this wasn’t from a monster; I accidentally cut myself with a knife!”

Seeing the gun, the man quickly showed Captain Zhu the wound on his hand.

The wound was a long, thin cut, clearly made by a knife.

The wound oozed bright red blood, not dark red, indicating no infection.

Only after confirming the wound did Captain Zhu put the gun back in its holster.

”Officer, is the rescue here? When will these... patients recover?”

The middle-aged man showed a gleam of hope in his eyes, looking eagerly at Captain Zhu.

”There’s no rescue for now, just self-help!” Captain Zhu glanced at the man’s hand and said, ”In special circumstances, protect yourself as much as possible. Those monsters are sensitive to blood; otherwise, that monster wouldn’t have stayed here despite hearing Uncle Wang’s song.”

Because it had smelled the blood in the room, the zombie hadn’t budged despite Uncle Wang’s rousing melody.

”Then, what about the sick ones?”

The middle-aged man stared blankly at the zombie lying at the door.

The zombie’s face was contorted, dark blood oozing from its head, a putrid odor flooding the nostrils.

”There’s no cure!” Captain Zhu sighed lightly. ”Have you seen Resident Evil?”

The middle-aged man’s face turned pale, his lips tightened, and he said nothing for a long time.

”Captain, it’s all cleared!”

A person in a police uniform walked over, speaking seriously to Captain Zhu.

”Alright, let everyone in!” Captain Zhu said.

”Yes!”

The young officer responded and jogged downstairs.

”We’re from S City and need to stay here for a few days, is that okay?” Captain Zhu asked amiably.

On day three of the apocalypse, they hadn’t resorted to robbery yet.

”Of course, of course,” the middle-aged man extended his uninjured hand to shake Captain Zhu’s and said, ”Hello, I’m He Yunxi, a power engineer here!”

”Hello, just call me Old Zhu.” Captain Zhu nodded slightly and emphasized again, ”We seem about the same age, so don’t call me Officer Uncle!”

It sounded rather off-putting.

”Alright, alright!”

He Yunxi quickly agreed.
