Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Going Downstairs to Play

”Let’s eat first! After lunch, I’ll take you out to play for a bit!”

Bai Xiqin touched her empty belly.

”Play?”

Bai Zhengxuan looked at the scene below with an expression that was hard to describe, internally collapsing.

He was just a retired people’s teacher!

Heaven knows, during his classes, he always taught the core values of socialism and promoted materialism.

Seeing the zombies below that were still bouncing even after death, Mr. Bai Zhengxuan was utterly exasperated inside.

”Okay, let’s eat first!”

Liu Jing reluctantly glanced downstairs, suppressing her curiosity.

She was very eager to dissect one and see the principle behind how those zombies could still bounce!

Bai Anhai quickly averted his gaze from downstairs and headed to the kitchen to start cooking.

Bai Zhengxuan, with a heavy heart, went over to help.

The rich aroma of food wafted out from the kitchen. Perhaps not wanting to ”play” downstairs, they dawdled significantly and made over a dozen hot dishes.

What must come will inevitably come.

Liu Jing smiled at the table full of dishes, ”The apocalypse is here; we need to be thrifty! Making so much, are we going to feed it all to the zombies?”

”Almost done, I’ll just stew a Buddha Jumps Over the Wall, and make a squirrel fish!”

Bai Anhai rolled up his sleeves and kept busy.

As long as he kept busy, he couldn’t be dragged down to play!

”If you can’t finish, why don’t you take these dishes to feed the little cuties, okay?”

Wang Yiyun smiled as she looked at Bai Anhai.

”Who are the little cuties?”

Bai Anhai’s hand, chopping vegetables, paused with a foreboding sense.

”The little cuties downstairs!”

Wang Yiyun and Liu Jing continued smiling as they looked at Bai Anhai and Bai Zhengxuan.

Bai Anhai: ...

”Time to eat!”

Mr. Bai decisively set down the knife and began carrying dishes to the living room.

The table was filled with food.

Having experienced the energy baptism today and absorbed a lot of superpowers, everyone was eating heartily.

”Sis, do zombies really have Crystal Cores in their brains?” Bai Yifan asked Bai Xiqin while eating.

”Yes, if you dissect the zombie’s brain, there will be a Crystal Core. Some zombies don’t have them in their brains.” Bai Xiqin replied.

”Huh, truly fascinating.” Liu Jing clicked her tongue, ”I’ve dissected bodies for most of my life, and I’ve never come across anything like this!”

”What does a freshly removed Crystal Core look like?” Wang Yiyun curiously pointed at the red-braised pork, ”Isn’t it like this bloody appearance?”

Bai Anhai glanced at the overly soy-sauced red-braised pork on his chopsticks, his mouth twitching as he decisively placed it into Leng Yebai’s bowl.

”No, most Crystal Cores are white, with a few in other colors.” Bai Xiqin explained.

Half an hour later, Bai Xiqin pulled out several long swords from space.

”Xiao Fan, you’re a Gold Ability User, can you reinforce these swords?” Bai Xiqin said.

Bai Yifan nodded, as pale yellow energy seeped from his hands, slowly enveloping the long swords.

Bai Xiqin watched the energy in Bai Yifan’s hands, carefully feeling it. Bai Yifan could now be considered a First Rank Superpower User.

This was just the first day of the apocalypse, and Bai Yifan was already ahead of most Superpower Users.

”Can any metal be reinforced?”

Leng Yebai appeared beside Bai Yifan with his broken bicycle in tow.

”...Yes,” Bai Xiqin’s mouth twitched.

Bai Yifan sympathetically glanced at Leng Yebai, surprised that there was someone poorer than him at home!

Bai Xiqin picked up the long sword reinforced by Bai Yifan, tugging at it. Originally made of special steel, it became even more durable after Bai Yifan’s enhancement.

Finally, the family stood at the door, ready to go play downstairs for a bit!

Everyone wore specially made jackets and gloves.

The gloves were made of special colloid, which even a dog couldn’t bite through. They were lightweight and didn’t hinder movement while worn.

This time, Bai Xiqin only planned to take everyone for a walk around the first floor, to see the zombies and mentally prepare for the apocalypse.

”Are we going out and coming back?” Leng Yebai asked Bai Xiqin.

If they weren’t coming back, he would need to take his bicycle with him.

”We’ll come back!” Bai Xiqin nodded slightly.

At the start of the apocalypse, most people were staying home, waiting for rescue.

The bases would only be established some time after the apocalypse began.

Everywhere was the same now; there was no absolutely safe place.

So Bai Xiqin chose to have her family stay home for a while, and once they adapted, they would head out in a bus.

Bai Xiqin placed her hand on the doorknob, ready to open the door.

”Wait!” Bai Zhengxuan gripped the long sword, nervously asking Bai Anhai, ”Does killing zombies count as excessive self-defense?”

”It counts as corpse abuse!” Bai Anhai’s mouth twitched.

Everyone: ...

”Are you ready?”

Bai Xiqin turned to ask.

”Ready!”

Bai Zhengxuan replied softly, his voice notably unnatural.

With a click, Bai Xiqin twisted the handle, opening the door.

Everyone held their breath.

Outside was quiet, no zombie roars echoed in the hallway.

As Bai Xiqin lifted her foot to step out, Bai Anhai pulled her back.

”I’ll go first!”

Bai Anhai, with a serious expression, walked out chest held high.

If you ignored the slight tremor in Bai Anhai’s legs, he maintained a tall, dependable paternal figure.

Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai exchanged glances and walked apart, to be able to quickly identify any situation.

Locking the door, the family chose to take the stairs down to the first floor.

Outside, occasional zombie roars could be heard.

Some rooms had sounds too, with some turning into zombies at home.

Their footsteps echoed down the hallway, Bai Anhai’s fingers gripping tightly around the long sword, occasionally sparking with electricity.

They made it from the eighth floor to the first without encountering a single little cutie!

Bai Anhai let out a small sigh of relief, seemingly many people hadn’t come out yet.

”Ho ho...”

Suddenly the heavy shuffle of a zombie approached.

Bai Anhai’s eyes widened as he saw a grotesque zombie reaching out with bloodied hands, roaring and lunging toward them.

”Roar―”

The zombies’ hoarse roars sounded like a bomb, with outside zombies now roaring and gathering here.

The zombie’s bloodied hand twisted in an eerie angle, with its mouth drooling crimson blood.

This indicated it had just consumed a person.

”Damn it!”

Bai Anhai exclaimed, wildly swinging his sword as electricity and fire surged toward the zombie.

”Sizzle sizzle...”

The zombie emitted a pungent smell as it sparked with noise, burned by the flames.

Bai Anhai didn’t care about anything else, swinging the sword relentlessly at the zombie, as the superpower was expended freely, electricity and flames crackling and spraying onto the zombie.

His heart was terrified to the extreme.

He wanted to retreat, but his family was behind him!

”Dad, you can stop now.”

Bai Yifan looked weakly at the decimated zombie below.

Bai Anhai breathed heavily, relieved at seeing the motionless zombie on the ground.

”Daughter, was I awesome?”

A shy hint of pride appeared on Bai Anhai’s face.

”Awesome!”

Bai Xiqin affirmed with a nod, quietly glancing at Grandma Liu Jing.

An unnoticeable ice needle protruded from the zombie’s temple.

Liu Jing brushed her bangs aside, amused by their boastful child!

The psychological resilience truly passed on from his father!
