Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: The Weather Has Turned Cold

”Is it because it’s too quiet outside?”

Bai Anhai furrowed his brows.

Looking outside from the eighth floor, apart from the occasional zombie roar from the community, everything seemed to be peaceful.

”I’m afraid a high-rank zombie might emerge,” Bai Xiqin said frankly.

”With Grandpa around, there’s nothing to fear anywhere!”

Bai Zhengxuan smirked and extended his fingers, where three types of supernatural abilities alternated, looking impressive.

”Grandpa, a high-rank zombie is probably Fourth Rank or above. City No.1 Middle School, do you know it? The zombies it controls can fill all the school buildings,” Bai Xiqin said.

”...When do we leave?”

Bai Zhengxuan quietly retracted his superpowers.

Life comes first!

”Let’s tentatively decide on tomorrow!”

Bai Xiqin thought for a moment and said.

The second day after the apocalypse broke out, with no safe base, during this time in her last life, she was still hiding at home, completely unaware of the situation outside.

”Okay!”

Bai Zhengxuan nodded calmly.

He had already put all his stuff into Bai Xiqin’s space, ready to flee without fear!

”Fourth Rank zombie, huh!” Liu Jing sighed slightly, ”I wonder what its brain’s crystal core looks like?”

Bai Xiqin: ...

After eating, Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai prepared to take a look at City No.1 Middle School.

The rest of the family stayed home to enhance their superpowers.

The power was out, the elevator was broken, so they could only take the stairs.

Leng Yebai carried his bicycle from the eighth floor down to the first.

”Get on!”

Leng Yebai’s long legs supported the bicycle, with a slight smile on his lips.

Bai Xiqin reluctantly got onto the bicycle’s back seat.

Crunch, crunch~

The bicycle slowly headed out of the community, making odd noises from time to time.

The community remained deserted.

The next day, people still didn’t lack food much.

The community gate was closed, preventing zombies inside from coming out and those outside from getting in.

Zombies occasionally attracted by the sound of Leng Yebai’s bicycle were swiftly dealt with by Bai Xiqin with just one steel needle.

Bai Xiqin didn’t plan to clear the community; people needed to learn to fend for themselves.

The caged canaries are always the hardest to survive.

Reaching the community gate, Bai Xiqin got off the bicycle.

Leng Yebai locked the bicycle with a big lock and then took the skateboard Bai Xiqin handed him, and both climbed over the iron gate.

Don’t ask why they rode a bicycle.

If you must ask, it’s because Leng Yebai likes it!

The streets remained desolate, with zombies killed yesterday still piled up at the community gate.

The putrid smell invaded the nostrils.

Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai rode their skateboards, slowly heading towards City No.1 Middle School.

Along the way, the zombies they encountered were either stuck in cars or unable to move.

Those zombies roared in vain, unable to move; they could only angrily snap at the air.

Soon, they reached City No.1 Middle School.

Bai Xiqin and Leng Yebai didn’t linger and slowly passed by as if merely passing.

Bai Xiqin glanced at the teaching buildings of City No.1 Middle School.

All the curtains in the teaching buildings were down, making it impossible to see if there were zombies inside.

Bai Xiqin’s heart sank; if she remembered correctly, the curtains in the teaching buildings were neatly tied up.

Now that they were down...

Bai Xiqin maintained her composure and, alongside Leng Yebai, continued to move forward without any special attention to City No.1 Middle School.

”Xiao Niu?”

A surprised voice called out.

”Zhang Yiming? What are you doing here?”

Bai Xiqin stopped and looked in surprise at Zhang Yiming, who suddenly appeared around the corner.

”I... came to find you.”

Zhang Yiming ignored Leng Yebai by Bai Xiqin’s side, his face slightly flushed.

”Find me? For what?” Bai Xiqin looked puzzled, ”In this situation, nowhere is safe; why aren’t you staying at home?”

When the apocalypse breaks out, everyone thinks staying home is the safest, so why is he still running around on the streets?

”I... brought you something.”

Zhang Yiming pulled out a USB drive from his pocket and handed it to Bai Xiqin.

Bai Xiqin took the USB drive, ”Is this—a thesis?”

”Yes, I promised last time to write a thesis for you, and now it’s finished, so I thought I’d let you review it first,” Zhang Yiming smiled awkwardly, ”If you feel something isn’t right, I can revise it.”

Bai Xiqin was momentarily stunned, looking at the shy boy before her and suddenly remembered.

Before the apocalypse, Zhang Yiming was always very considerate of her.

The two often met coincidentally in the library and then sat together to read.

Bai Xiqin loved books and could spend an entire day absorbed in one, reading a book a day.

Meanwhile, Zhang Yiming tended to daydream while reading; when returning books, the corners often were worn and curled.

Could it be...

Bai Xiqin sighed lightly.

Back then, she liked him too.

But after the apocalypse, they couldn’t contact each other; with her family struck by change, who could remember the youthful yearnings of the past?

”Your writing doesn’t need any changes,” Bai Xiqin smiled gently at Zhang Yiming, ”It’s dangerous out here; you should head back home! Being with family is best now; if possible, head to a safe place with everyone.”

”Xiao Niu, you—where are you heading?”

Zhang Yiming glanced at the skateboard under Bai Xiqin’s feet, his lips slightly curling.

Few girls play with skateboards.

Bai Xiqin, the quiet, book-loving girl, had joined the roller skating club and was a master at skating.

Though there were others like Bai Xiqin, he always felt she was the best.

”Leng Yebai and I are just wandering; the water and power are out at home, checking if any water pipes have burst,” Bai Xiqin said.

It was only then that Zhang Yiming looked at Leng Yebai.

Leng Yebai nodded slightly at Zhang Yiming, ”Hello.”

Zhang Yiming chuckled lightly, ”So it’s Uncle Leng.”

”I’m Bai Xiqin’s good friend,” Leng Yebai responded calmly, ”No need for formalities, Zhang.”

The way he said ”good friend” oozed with tenderness.

Anyone could hear the subtle implication in his words.

Zhang Yiming’s eyes dimmed momentarily, but soon he resumed his sunny smile.

”Since you’re Xiao Niu’s friend, you’re my friend too,” Zhang Yiming extended his hand warmly, ”Hello, I’m Zhang Yiming, Xiao Niu’s classmate.”

”Hello!” Leng Yebai shook his hand expressionlessly, then looked at Bai Xiqin gently, ”Let’s go!”

Bai Xiqin nodded slightly, glancing subtly at City No.1 Middle School nearby before preparing to leave.

”Xiao Niu!”

Zhang Yiming called out to Bai Xiqin softly.

”What is it?” Bai Xiqin looked at Zhang Yiming warmly, ”Thank you for the thesis, but it’s dangerous here; please go back quickly!”

Saying this, Bai Xiqin felt like a heartbreaker.

If she hadn’t been reborn, if she hadn’t met Leng Yebai.

Perhaps, their meeting would have been different!

But she had been through too much, and the girl’s youthful innocence was long forgotten.

”Alright, I’ll head back soon.”

Zhang Yiming maintained his sunny smile, his eyes lingering on Bai Xiqin as if trying to imprint her image in his heart.

Perhaps, this was the last time.

”Zhang, please go back and dress warmly; it’s getting cold.”

Leng Yebai’s clear and cool voice sounded.

Zhang Yiming’s fingers rubbed slightly, he smiled softly but said nothing, just silently watched them walk away into the distance.
