Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Where’s Our Property Deed?

”Sis, the stuff we bought still isn’t enough!”

Bai Yifan sighed as he sorted through the supplies they had purchased.

Bai Xiqin rubbed her chin, looking at the open land and the stream, ”We should buy some fish fry and seeds another day. In the apocalypse, many plants will mutate. Being able to have fresh fruits and vegetables would be the happiest thing.”

Bai Yifan scratched his head, ”That’s easy. In a couple of days, we can visit Grandma and Grandpa’s place and replant the fruit trees from the orchard here!”

Grandpa Bai and Grandma Bai, one was a schoolteacher, and the other a retired forensic doctor. Even in retirement in the countryside, they stayed busy, planting several acres of fruit trees and raising some chickens, ducks, and geese.

”Sis, now that we have this space and can stockpile more supplies, the apocalypse won’t be so scary, right?” Bai Yifan pursed his thin lips.

He recalled the time when he couldn’t do sports well and the idiom ”the fertile water stays within the farm.”

Sigh, seems like he needs to prioritize running!

He wasn’t afraid of ”the fertile water stays within the farm,” he was just afraid of his dad’s garlic breath!

”We still need to stockpile quite a bit. We also need to get a modified bus and weapons to defend against zombies, and build some lightweight steel villas inside the space!” Bai Xiqin planned carefully as she surveyed the space.

The space was indeed the safest place, but one shouldn’t always rely on it.

They would need a bus, modify it into an RV to avoid suspicion.

Space Ability Users are prime targets for recruitment by major bases, and many people covet them.

Remembering her past experience of being dissected, Bai Xiqin decided to keep a low profile.

”So much?” Bai Yifan was stunned, holding a jug of oil, ”But we don’t have that much money!”

Just a bus alone would cost hundreds of thousands!

”We still have three months, let’s figure out a way to raise money!” Bai Xiqin calmly asked Bai Yifan, ”By the way, do you know where to take a high-interest loan?”

”You, you want to take a loan?” Bai Yifan was dumbfounded, ”Our dad would definitely break our legs!”

”Just do it secretly!” Bai Xiqin shrugged. ”Once the apocalypse comes in three months, no one will find out.”

”What if we’re discovered beforehand?” Bai Yifan asked timidly, ”Our dad’s a top lawyer, he’d definitely have us locked up.”

”What are you afraid of!” Bai Xiqin patted Bai Yifan’s shoulder, ”At worst, you spend a few days inside, and I’ll save you once the apocalypse arrives!”

Bai Yifan gritted his teeth, ”...okay then!”

Seeing Bai Yifan’s expression as if going to his death, Bai Xiqin stifled a laugh.

”Just kidding!” Bai Xiqin laughed. ”We’re still short on money. How about we tell mom and dad about the apocalypse tonight?”

Bai Yifan rolled his eyes, feeling he was toyed with. He had already pictured his dad using the penal code on him!

”Xiao Fan, open the door quickly!”

A knocking sound came from outside.

Bai Yifan and Bai Xiqin exchanged glances, Bai Yifan quickly placed his hand on Bai Xiqin’s shoulder, and the two exited the space simultaneously.

”Mom—ah!”

As soon as Bai Yifan opened the door, he was startled by the various shopping bags piled at the doorway and took a step back.

”Make way, make way!”

Bai Anhai walked into the house with seven or eight shopping bags.

”Mom and Dad, are we not living anymore?”

Bai Yifan looked at the pile of shopping bags with a pained expression. If it were food, he wouldn’t feel bad; he could store it in the space.

But his parents bought clothes, and they were clearly women’s clothes; he couldn’t wear them out!

”Your dad helped Wangyang Company’s boss with a lawsuit and earned quite a bit of money!”

Wang Yiyun grinned, piling the shopping bags into Bai Xiqin’s room.

They were all pretty little dresses for their daughter.

”Mom and Dad, we still need to be thrifty in the future!” Bai Yifan scratched his head, starting to think about how to talk about the impending apocalypse.

”Xiao Fan is right; from now on, your allowance will be halved!”

Bai Anhai began taking the remaining pile of Wang Yiyun’s clothes to their own room.

Bai Yifan: ...

”Mom, why did you buy me so many clothes again? I can’t wear them all!”

Bai Xiqin laughed as she gestured at the new clothes, her smile radiant.

”Mom, pray tell, why didn’t you buy me any socks?”

After looking for a while, Bai Yifan saw only his sister’s clothes and his mom’s clothes, and nothing else!

”Our Xiao Niu looks good and should dress well!” Wang Yiyun glanced at Bai Yifan, ”Didn’t buy you any; haven’t you figured out why?”

Bai Yifan: ...

Who said he was ugly?

He’s just not obviously handsome!

”Mom and Dad, Xiao Fan wants to tell you something!”

Bai Xiqin winked at Bai Yifan.

”What is it?” Wang Yiyun looked at Bai Yifan.

Bai Yifan scratched his head, a bit conflicted. As he internally mulled over how to start the conversation, he looked to Bai Xiqin for help, but she pretended not to see him.

”Ahem, it’s a long story. Let’s talk it over in the living room!”

Bai Yifan, worried that the matter might scare his parents, decided to have them sit on the sofa and have a drink before speaking.

Bai Xiqin took Mrs. Bai to the living room, sitting on the sofa.

Bai Anhai glanced at the conflicted Bai Yifan, calmly picked up a feather duster, and sat on the sofa.

”Dad, why’d you bring that thing?”

Bai Yifan handed water to Wang Yiyun and Bai Anhai, but his lips twitched when he saw the feather duster.

”No reason! Speak up if you have something to say!”

Bai Anhai calmly placed the feather duster on the table.

”Uh... I haven’t caused any trouble!” Bai Yifan quickly stated, ”I just want to tell you a big secret.”

”What secret?” Wang Yiyun squeezed the feather duster, turned, and whispered to Bai Anhai, ”Isn’t this falling apart?”

”It’s fine. I’ll buy five more another day,” Bai Anhai replied.

”Mom and Dad, I really haven’t caused any trouble. I just wanted to ask—where do we keep the house deeds?” Bai Yifan asked, sticking his neck out.

Bai Anhai glanced at Bai Yifan, ”Fraud, up to three years imprisonment.”

Bai Yifan: ...

”Mom and Dad, let me explain!” Bai Xiqin took a breath and spoke softly, ”Remember the nightmare I had today?”

”I remember!” Wang Yiyun nodded.

The nightmare where the whole family died left a deep impression!

”Actually, I dreamt of the future,” Bai Xiqin continued, ”I saw the apocalypse. Many people turned into zombies, and there were many mutated animals and plants...”

Bai Xiqin slowly recounted what she had seen throughout the three years of the apocalypse, subconsciously omitting her experience of being captured and dissected.

”Xiao Niu, are you... not fully awake?”

Bai Anhai took a long pause before saying this.

From a young age, he was influenced by socialist values. As a lawyer, he didn’t believe in ghosts and gods.

”Dad, Sis is telling the truth; the apocalypse is really coming!” Bai Yifan looked at Bai Anhai, ”How much savings do we have? Where’s our house deed?”

Bai Anhai picked up the feather duster and ran his fingers over it, calmly replying, ”Spreading false information, up to three years.”

Bai Yifan instinctively took a step back, looking at the feather duster in Bai Anhai’s hand, then pointed at Bai Xiqin nonchalantly, ”Big Sis told me the apocalypse is coming.”

Bai Anhai looked at the innocently smiling Bai Xiqin, silently set down the feather duster, and earnestly said, ”Daughter, if you need money, just tell me!”

It’s not like they wouldn’t give it!
