Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The Big Shopping Spree

After a few people came out of the space, it was already dark.

Bai Xiqin and her grandma, Liu Jing, were discussing in the living room what to buy, while Bai Yifan and Bai Zhengxuan sensibly ran to the kitchen to cook.

In the living room, Bai Xiqin had a phone by her side, with an old computer running nearby, downloading various e-books.

Bai Xiqin opened a shopping app on her phone, her fingers swiping quickly, adding suitable items to the cart when she saw them.

”Buy more spinach seeds, some chili seeds too...”

Liu Jing, wearing reading glasses, looked at Bai Xiqin’s phone screen, occasionally making suggestions.

One has to admit, the shopping app is powerful; there’s nothing you can’t get, only things you can’t imagine.

Bai Xiqin purchased various vegetable seeds and planting books online.

Bai Xiqin also downloaded all kinds of e-books, whether novels or educational ones.

She stored various e-books onto a USB drive using her grandma’s old computer.

No matter what the future holds, spiritual nourishment should not be neglected.

Physical books also need to be bought, to save electricity.

Bai Xiqin bought a large quantity of seeds and books on planting and raising animals online, as well as some tents, flashlights, and other outdoor gear.

After a shopping spree, more than twenty thousand was spent in one go.

Looking at the decreasing balance on her card, Bai Xiqin didn’t feel the least bit distressed, because everything she bought was to survive better in the post-apocalyptic world.

”Tomorrow, we should go buy some piglet and chick, that should be about it,” muttered Liu Jing, wearing reading glasses, as she counted the needed items, ”and also get a few more sets of dentures with your grandpa!”

With a cheerful nod, Bai Xiqin continued to browse the shopping app on her phone, buying outdoor gear as she saw fit.

Ding dong~

A message popped up in the family group chat ”A Loving Family”.

Never Lost a Case (Bai Anhai): ”Daughter, I think I’ve awakened a superpower. I’ve accidentally broken several phones already!”

Xiqin (Bai Xiqin): ”Use your brain to control your power with the method I mentioned before! Besides—that saves us from buying a solar generator; one less expense!”

Strongest High Schooler Xiao White (Bai Yifan): ”Dad, what kind of superpower have you awakened?”

Never Lost a Case (Bai Anhai): ”I can breathe fire, and my touch short-circuits phones, it should be a Fire and Thunder Ability!”

Most Beautiful Makeup Artist (Wang Yiyun): ”I’ve awakened too, but I can only leak electricity!”

Strongest High Schooler Xiao White (Bai Yifan): ”... May I ask, am I the only one who hasn’t awakened a superpower?”

Peace is a Blessing (Bai Zhengxuan): ”Yes, grandson!”

Strongest High Schooler Xiao White (Bai Yifan): ”...”

At night, Bai Yifan couldn’t fall asleep for a long time, always feeling like he might have been picked up from somewhere!

Among the six family members, he was the only one without a superpower!

So sad!

The next day, the four of them, Bai Xiqin and her grandparents, set off for the town with a bank card.

Bai Zhengxuan rode an electric tricycle, while Bai Xiqin, her sibling, and grandma Liu Jing, sat in the back. After a bumpy ride, they finally arrived at the town.

Seeds were bought online, so this time they came to buy animal younglings and a harvester.

There was a market happening, with lots of vendors on the street. Bai Zhengxuan, avoiding the inside streets, drove straight towards the Flower and Bird Market.

The Flower and Bird Market had not only flashy flowers and colorful birds but also some vendors selling poultry and animals.

Snow-white rabbits, cute little chicks, reportedly miniature domestic pigs, ducklings, etc.

Wearing reading glasses, Bai Zhengxuan and Liu Jing went from stall to stall, specifically choosing pairs of critters to purchase.

They bought twenty pairs each of chicks, ducklings, and goslings since rabbits reproduce quickly, they bought two pairs of those.

With just these purchases, the electric tricycle was fully loaded.

Bai Xiqin gave her grandparents a look, then drove the electric tricycle to a secluded spot.

Bai Yifan followed behind, carefully scanning the surroundings, confirming there were no CCTV cameras or people, before signaling Bai Xiqin with a gesture.

With a wave of her hand, Bai Xiqin collected all the animals into the space, keeping them from wandering by including the cardboard boxes.

The four of them coordinated seamlessly, even buying several pairs each of piglets and lambs.

Then, they went to the poultry equipment store to purchase a number of cages and enclosures.

Because there were so many cages and enclosures, transporting them back in one trip would be too conspicuous, so Bai Zhengxuan asked the store to deliver them home.

The store owner did not refuse; it was the largest order since opening.

”No cows though!”

Looking at the end of the street, Bai Yifan expressed some regret.

Beef skewers are quite delicious.

”The neighboring village raises cows. I’ll ask them tomorrow if they’d sell.”

Bai Zhengxuan, with a smile, pushed the electric vehicle towards the harvester vendor.

The more they stored in space, the more secure they felt.

Liu Jing, adjusting her reading glasses, looked at the list of items in her hand, listing everything they needed to buy.

Actually, aside from poultry, there wasn’t much else. Other supplies were purchased massively by Bai Anhai and his wife under the guise of running a supermarket.

”Money really doesn’t last!”

Liu Jing sighed, looking at the bank card in Bai Xiqin’s hand.

They had spent over thirty thousand that day, mainly because lambs and piglets were expensive, and they bought quite a few enclosures.

”Spend! Spend if it needs to be spent!”

Bai Zhengxuan was quite open-minded.

With the apocalypse nearing, spending would become impossible, especially since they were luckier than most, having a space to store items.

So, what’s there not to accept?

Bai Zhengxuan drove the electric tricycle around and took Bai Xiqin and the other two to a store selling agricultural tools and machinery.

Not only did they sell large harvesters, but also tools like sickles and shovels.

Bai Zhengxuan specially inquired about the price; a large harvester cost one hundred and forty thousand, capable of harvesting both corn and wheat.

Bai Xiqin gritted her teeth and bought it!

In a few days, they’d need to head back; the countryside wouldn’t be safe during the outbreak, and encountering a horde of beasts would be disastrous.

Zombies in cities are abundant and unsafe, but there are fewer animals.

The future was sure to be one of constant wandering, and new bases wouldn’t be established in this area. If they didn’t buy soon, it would be tough post-apocalypse to have such a large operational range.

With the apocalypse, movement would become extremely difficult.

Last time, even with her strength, she hadn’t been able to find her grandparents in an uncertain fate. This time, they had to live together.

Bai Zhengxuan, with a pained face, clutched his dentures and picked out various farm tools, paying for the large harvester.

Having already spent so much, Bai Zhengxuan bought plenty of spare parts to avoid having nowhere to repair broken items.

Finally, with Bai Yifan driving the electric tricycle carrying Bai Xiqin and Liu Jing, and Bai Zhengxuan driving the large harvester, they headed home.

On the way back, they were quite the spectacle!

Bai Zhengxuan didn’t drive directly home, afraid of drawing too much attention, instead driving towards the orchard, where Bai Xiqin collected everything into the space.

The four of them left home on an electric tricycle and returned on it as well, clean and empty.

But the twenty thousand plus in the elderly couple’s bank card was gone, transformed into a heap of goods in the space.

By the time they were home, the people delivering the enclosures from town had already brought the goods.

The enclosures were made of green iron nets, perfect for keeping the poultry separated; they couldn’t let them run wild in space.
