Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Favoring Sons Over Daughters

Early in the morning, Bai Yifan excitedly knocked on Bai Xiqin’s door.

”Sis, are you awake?”

Bai Yifan was dressed in casual sportswear, having thrown his school uniform into the corner.

After some ”discussion” between his mom and the class teacher, he got a three-month sick leave.

Bai Xiqin opened the door to see the excited Bai Yifan.

Bai Xiqin had been meditating in her room all night and could already feel traces of that special energy in the air.

The outbreak of the apocalypse was due to that special energy suddenly arriving on Earth.

It seems that in this life, the end times will come too.

”Sis, today we’re going to Grandpa and Grandma’s in the countryside to dig up tree saplings. Mom and Dad are going to rent a warehouse and prepare for opening a supermarket!”

When Bai Yifan mentioned the word ”supermarket,” he winked at Bai Xiqin.

This way, a lot of supplies can be stored again.

”Where are Mom and Dad?”

Bai Xiqin glanced at the living room but didn’t see Bai Anhai and Wang Yiyun.

”They’re in the bathroom!” Bai Yifan shrugged. ”They’re covered in black stuff and have diarrhea, so they’re showering! Luckily we have two bathrooms at home, or Dad would be in trouble!”

Bai Xiqin felt a bit uneasy. She had replaced the bottled water at home with water from her space and forgot to tell her family.

”Don’t you need a shower?” Bai Xiqin glanced at Bai Yifan.

”I already did, but I’m not too dirty!” Bai Yifan spread his hands. ”I showered for ten minutes before Dad pushed me out!”

Bai Xiqin twitched her lips and silently distanced herself a bit from Bai Yifan.

”When you go to Grandpa and Grandma’s, don’t talk randomly!” Wang Yiyun opened the bathroom door and came out in a bathrobe.

Bai Xiqin could see that Wang Yiyun’s skin had improved a lot.

It seems the effect of the Spiritual Spring Water is significant.

”Got it!”

Bai Xiqin and Bai Yifan nodded simultaneously.

The end-of-the-world stuff is too unbelievable for normal people to accept, so the family tacitly decided not to make it public.

Or else, they might get locked up.

But Mr. and Mrs. Bai already plan to spread the news a few days before the apocalypse, whether people believe it or not is not their problem.

”Oh, don’t forget to buy more needles, ones that are hard enough, and get more of them!” Bai Xiqin whispered, ”Things placed in the space won’t rot; it’s also good to buy more fresh produce to store!”

”Really?” Wang Yiyun’s eyes lit up.

If things in the space don’t rot, just like a refrigerator, then there’s no fear of storing too many supplies and having them expire.

”Really!” Bai Xiqin nodded affirmatively.

A Space Ability User’s space can perfectly preserve the state of food.

Others’ spaces can’t accommodate people or grow crops, but hers can.

She can sense every plant in her space, even the state of the plants. Everything put in that isn’t planted won’t change state.

”That’s great! At first, your dad and I worried that too many things would go to waste when expired!” Wang Yiyun smiled.

So, the apocalypse doesn’t seem so harsh.

”The house has been listed online, below market price, and should sell in a few days. I’ll contact a friend about solar generators, we should be able to buy one.”

Bai Anhai appeared, wearing a bathrobe and drying his hair, from the other bathroom.

”We still don’t have enough money.” Wang Yiyun sighed, looking at Bai Anhai with longing eyes, ”Isn’t it said that the most profitable businesses are written in the criminal code?”

Bai Anhai: ...

”Why don’t we take a loan!” Bai Yifan’s eyes gleamed, ”We won’t need to repay it in three months anyway!”

”Haha, without collateral, how will you get a loan? Unless it’s a high-interest loan!” Bai Anhai rolled his eyes.

Wait, high-interest loan?

”I’ve handled several cases of students taking high-interest loans and getting trapped in debt!” Bai Anhai rubbed his chin, looking at Bai Yifan.

Bai Yifan silently stepped back and weakly asked, ”Could it be... a fruit loan?”

”Exactly!” Bai Anhai patted his shoulder, ”How about giving it a try?”

Bai Yifan pulled his clothes tightly around himself, rolling his eyes, ”There isn’t a fruit loan for males! Besides, it won’t be much money!”

”Even flies are meat, no matter how small!” Bai Xiqin looked at Bai Yifan with a sly glance.

”No way! I’d rather starve, or jump off a building, than give up the dignity of a man!” Bai Yifan declared firmly.

”Then forget it!” Bai Xiqin spread her hands, ”We’ll just buy a little less milk powder!”

”Buy the cheapest one!” Wang Yiyun said calmly.

Bai Anhai shrugged his shoulders, ”Why buy at all, just skip it and save some money!”

”If we don’t buy, we don’t buy, I’ll raise the money myself!”

Bai Yifan silently took out his phone to post on his social media.

Bai Xiqin glanced at her phone to see Bai Yifan’s post――

’Lifetime service offering――Pinduoduo knife sharpener, vote for your child, train ticket accelerator, end-of-year fortune swapping, friends’ circle likes and comments, help elementary school classmates fight, ghostwriting...and more, prices negotiable!’

Bai Xiqin: ...

After breakfast, Mr. and Mrs. Bai went out together to find a warehouse.

Bai Xiqin and Bai Yifan took a short-distance bus to their grandparents’ house in the countryside.

Aside from digging up saplings, they also planned to bring their grandparents back home.

The apocalypse brings rampant zombies, and the sparsely populated countryside isn’t the safest.

Humans will mutate, animals too, and so will plants.

Mutated animals are more formidable than humans; their sharp teeth and countless numbers will cause one disaster after another.

The city isn’t any better; a large number of humans turned into zombies, and if people in the city don’t get out, they won’t survive.

In summary, nowhere is safe, so it’s better for the family to stay together.

Bai Zhengxuan and Liu Jing, hearing their grandchildren were coming, waited early at the village entrance.

As soon as Bai Xiqin and Bai Yifan got off the bus, they heard their grandma’s loud voice.

”Xiao Niu! Xiao Fan!”

Liu Jing smiled warmly, looking at her grandchildren who had just gotten off the bus.

Bai Zhengxuan, carrying a basket of pomegranates, chuckled at Bai Yifan and Bai Xiqin.

This year the couple was 70, still healthy and tending to their fruit orchard, and upon hearing their grandchildren were coming, they picked a basket of pomegranates and waited at the village entrance.

”Grandpa, why are you waiting here?”

Bai Xiqin hurriedly reached out to take the basket from Bai Zhengxuan’s hand.

”No, no, it’s too heavy. You have some pomegranate!”

Bai Zhengxuan chuckled, dodging Bai Xiqin’s hand, handing her a big red pomegranate, and then hung the basket over Bai Yifan’s arm.

Favor the boy; he should carry more!

”Haha, Grandpa still cares about me!”

Bai Yifan grinned at the basket in his hand, feeling favored by his grandpa.

Giving his sister one, and the rest to him!

Such status is clearly different!

Bai Zhengxuan puzzledly glanced at the silly-grinning Bai Yifan, feeling the kid was hopeless, too foolish, just like his dad when he was young, a little rascal!
