Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 1491 - 934: Siege Warfare

”Kill!”

The wolf-headed Mystic Armor Guards approached the city wall and leapt up, trying to jump onto it.

However, what awaited them were arrows and Sky-shattering Thunder raining down.

The whooshing sound of arrows and booming explosions instantly engulfed the leaping wolf-headed Mystic Armor Guards.

In the blink of an eye, the fierce wolf-headed Mystic Armor Guards became utterly disheveled.

Clad in Mystic Armor, holding shields, the arrows and Sky-shattering Thunder didn’t significantly harm them unless they got hit directly in the face, which was rare.

But as the arrows and Sky-shattering Thunder showered down overwhelmingly, they hindered the charge of the wolf-headed Mystic Armor Guards, throwing their formation into disarray.

With long-range Cloud-piercing Crossbows, close-range bows and arrows, and Sky-shattering Thunder, the army of Nether Prison Sect hadn’t even reached the battlements of Wuxiang City and was already subjected to incessant attacks, causing their fierce army to lose morale as if punctured.

Atop the Flying Boat Fortress, Sheng Youhuang and Li Xuanxiao both wore grim expressions.

At this moment, anyone with common sense could see that the offensive of the Nether Prison Sect had slowed down, with the wolf-headed Mystic Armor Guards at the front being thwarted, and the follow-up army under crossbow attack, showing signs of collapse.

”Damn it, they actually use such malicious tactics against us!”

Li Xuanxiao said with some indignation.

Are crossbows, bows and arrows, and Sky-shattering Thunder considered malicious tactics?

Of course not!

But in the eyes of the Nether Prison Sect, these weren’t normal conventional things.

Even though these were weapons of not much power, they still managed to obstruct the attack of their tens of thousands strong army, how could they not be angry?

Sheng Youhuang’s eyes flickered as she looked down at the battlefield below.

Seeing many disciples injured, she shook her head slightly, ”Let them retreat for now!”

Continuing the attack at this moment was meaningless and would only increase the casualties.

...

With her command given, the army of Nether Prison Sect retreated like a tide.

On the city gate tower, Yang Zhenshan withdrew his gaze and walked slowly into the hall inside the tower.

This place had turned into a temporary command center. Yang Mingzhi, Yang Minghao, Yang Mingwu, and Yang Chengze were all there, and they had all observed the battle just now.

”How was it?” Yang Zhenshan asked.

Yang Mingzhi spoke up, ”Their strength is not weak, but their military quality is very poor. Just the crossbow attacks threw their formation into chaos!”

Yang Zhenshan nodded slightly, ”Besides the front wolf-headed Mystic Armor Guards, the others don’t even count as an army, they’re just a bunch of martial artists gathered together. They seem intimidating, but they lack the discipline of a true army.”

”Since we understand their situation, next we should devise our battle plan!”

The strategy for this battle was to hold Wuxiang City, keeping the Nether Prison Sect outside, but tactically, they didn’t have to stick solely to defense. They should take the initiative when needed.

”Understood!” Yang Mingzhi and the others responded in unison and immediately began discussing the new battle plan.

At this moment, a large number of Secret Martial Guards roamed between the Nether Prison Sect and Wuxiang City, collecting intelligence everywhere, searching for the follow-up troops of the Nether Prison Sect, serving as the scouts of the Sea of Spirit.

According to the intelligence provided by the Secret Martial Guards, the follow-up troops of the Nether Prison Sect had two main routes, one passing through Xianling City in the east, and the other coming from the southeast along the Yi River.

Xianling City was also a large city, considered a frontier city of the Nether Prison Sect in the west, just like Wuxiang City was the gateway of the Sea of Spirit; Xianling City was the gateway of the Nether Prison Sect in the west.

And the Yi River was a major river, originating from the Yunxiao Mountain Range, formed by the convergence of dozens of small rivers and streams, with the Sea of Spirit being one of its sources.

The Yi River flows southeast, directly into the southern region of the Nether Prison Sect’s sphere of influence, hence part of the Nether Prison Sect’s reinforcements would follow the Yi River upstream.

Yang Mingzhi and the others swiftly formulated the battle plan, actually, they already had a plan in mind, they just made minor adjustments based on the current situation.

And their battle plan was straightforward—cut off the reinforcements of the Nether Prison Sect to prevent them from amassing more troops outside Wuxiang City.

Once the battle plan was finalized and approved by Yang Zhenshan, it was immediately converted into a military order and issued.

Southwest of Wuxiang City, eighty miles away, in the camp of the Illusion Moon Sect.

Yang Mingzhen arrived holding the military order, Yue Ming and Liu Yue came out of the camp to greet him.

”Brother Yang, how is it over at Wuxiang City?” Yue Ming asked urgently as soon as he saw Yang Mingzhen.

”Don’t worry, Senior Yue Ming, Wuxiang City is currently in no danger!” Yang Mingzhen said.

”That’s good, that’s good!”

Yue Ming looked at Yang Mingzhen, nodded slightly, and then asked, ”Then, Brother Yang, why have you come?”

Yang Mingzhen unfolded the military order in his hand and said, ”By order of the Guest Elder Palace, the Illusion Moon Sect is to lead a detachment southward, bypassing Xayun Ridge, then advancing east to the banks of the Yi River, to intercept the reinforcements of the Nether Prison Sect!”

”I, Yang Mingzhen, will join the two elders in intercepting the reinforcements of the Nether Prison Sect!”

Having said this, he handed the military order to Yue Ming.

Yue Ming took the order and examined it carefully.

”Why go to the banks of the Yi River? Shouldn’t we support Wuxiang City? Can the Yang family hold it alone?”

He was somewhat puzzled, the Nether Prison Sect was coming on fiercely, shouldn’t the Sea of Spirit be making an all-out effort at Wuxiang City to resist the Nether Prison Sect’s offensive?

But now they were being ordered to take a detour to the banks of the Yi River to intercept the reins of the Nether Prison Sect, leaving him quite perplexed.
