Divine Level Witch Doctor

Something happened that Ding Yang never would have expected.

The sales associates all nodded in unison and said, ”That’s right. This customer did indeed buy all of these clothes and bags.”

Ding Yang was stunned, his face a mask of disbelief. ”Are you kidding me? He can afford things from your store? And he bought this much all at once?”

Zhao Yuan didn’t want to argue with Ding Yang, but someone else couldn’t stand by and watch.

The manager of the designer boutique walked over and said to Ding Yang with a stern expression, ”Sir, please stop causing a scene, or we’ll have to call security!” She then immediately turned to apologize to Zhao Yuan.

Zhao Yuan waved his hand magnanimously. ”No need to apologize. This has nothing to do with you.”

Just then, Lin Xue came out of the restroom. Although she hadn’t seen what happened, being as sharp as she was, she figured out the gist of the situation almost instantly.

Her eyes darting around, Lin Xue quickly walked to Zhao Yuan’s side, gently took his arm, and asked with a smile, ”Darling, sorry to keep you waiting. And these two are?”

The way Lin Xue addressed him made Zhao Yuan’s heart skip a beat, and his knees felt weak.

Fortunately, he was also smart enough not to foolishly ask Lin Xue why she was calling him that. Instead, he smiled and made the introductions. ”This is my high school classmate, Ding Yang. And that’s his girlfriend, but I don’t know her name.”

”Hello.” Lin Xue nodded at Ding Yang and his girlfriend with a cold arrogance that kept them at a distance.

”Y-You... Hello...” Ding Yang’s eyes were practically glued to her, and he could barely get the words out, which made his ”department beauty” girlfriend furious.

At that moment, Zhao Yuan took the shopping bags from the sales associate and said to Ding Yang, ”I have other things to do, so I’ll get going. Let’s catch up some other time.” He then left the high-end boutique with Lin Xue on his arm.

Watching the two of them leave, Ding Yang was both shocked and bewildered. ’Wasn’t that loser Zhao Yuan supposed to be dirt poor? How did he suddenly get a girl and money? Did he win the lottery? Or become some rich woman’s boy toy? Damn it, I’m obviously better looking than him, so why hasn’t some beautiful woman picked me up to be her kept man?’

His thoughts drifted back to Lin Xue’s beautiful and adorable face.

’Compared to Lin Xue, this department beauty I worked so hard to get is in a completely different league!’

The girl noticed the lecherous expression on Ding Yang’s face and guessed what he was thinking. Already angry, she flew into a rage and viciously pinched his side.

”AH!” Ding Yang cried out in pain. He turned to glare at her and barked, ”Are you crazy? What’d you pinch me for?”

The two of them immediately started arguing.

After leaving the high-end boutique, Zhao Yuan turned his head to look at Lin Xue.

Lin Xue’s pretty face was slightly flushed. She shot him a look and asked, ”What are you looking at me for?”

Zhao Yuan said, ”A moment ago, you said you were my girlfriend?”

Lin Xue’s face grew redder, but she tried to act calm. ”I was just helping you out of a jam and saving your face! So, how was my acting?”

”It was amazing!” Zhao Yuan freed one hand to give her a thumbs-up.

The atmosphere fell silent. Neither of them knew what to say.

After a few minutes, Zhao Yuan couldn’t hold it in any longer. His voice trembling slightly, he said, ”Um... How about... you actually become my girlfriend?”

Lin Xue shivered slightly. She looked at him and asked, ”Are you confessing to me?”

”Uh... I guess so,” Zhao Yuan said, scratching his head in embarrassment.

His reaction amused her, and she couldn’t help but laugh. ”This is a pretty half-hearted confession, isn’t it?”

”So, will you?” Zhao Yuan asked, his heart pounding with nervousness.

Lin Xue didn’t give a direct answer. Instead, she said playfully, ”You guess.”

Zhao Yuan was dumbfounded.

’Guess? I don’t have a Mind Reading Technique, how am I supposed to guess?’

Seeing his expression, Lin Xue was both amused and exasperated. She shot him another look and said, ”You big goose!” Then she urged him on, ”Come on, hurry up! We still have to buy clothes for your father, and didn’t you say you needed to buy New Year’s goods? If we don’t get a move on, one morning won’t be enough.”

Although Zhao Yuan didn’t understand the intricacies of a woman’s heart, he wasn’t an idiot. Seeing this, how could he not understand what Lin Xue’s answer was? He immediately broke into a wide, happy grin.

Next, the two of them bought clothes for Zhao Yuan’s father and then a large amount of New Year’s goods. By the end, Zhao Yuan realized they had bought far too much. It was all piled up like a small mountain.

Now, Zhao Yuan was dumbfounded.

Lin Xue was dumbfounded, too.

Lost in the sweet bliss of their shopping spree, neither of them had paid attention to how much they were buying. Looking at the haul now gave them a headache.

”How are you planning to get home?” Lin Xue asked.

”I was planning on taking the long-distance bus, but now it looks like that’s not going to be possible,” Zhao Yuan said with a pained expression.

”Then what should we do? How about I have my dad drive you?” Lin Xue suggested.

”No way,” Zhao Yuan quickly refused. ’Are you kidding me? That’s my future father-in-law! I should be trying to get on his good side, not making him my chauffeur!’

After thinking for a moment, Zhao Yuan said, ”I’ll call Brother Fang and ask him to find someone with a car for me.”

The call connected quickly, and Zhao Yuan briefly explained what he needed.

Fang Yi immediately said, ”Where are you? I’ll send someone to pick you up right now.”

Zhao Yuan gave him their address. The two of them found a nearby coffee shop and had been sitting for about twenty minutes when an unfamiliar number called. It was the person Fang Yi had sent.

They walked out of the coffee shop and saw a pickup truck parked on the side of the road.

Fang Yi was truly reliable. As soon as he heard that Zhao Yuan had a lot of things and was heading back to his hometown in the mountains, he had the pharmaceutical factory’s driver bring over their pickup truck. While not as comfortable as a car, it was perfect for hauling things and had decent off-road capabilities. If it had been a sedan, forget about fitting all of Zhao Yuan’s gifts inside—the mountain roads alone would have caused it to break down.

The driver was a sturdy man in his thirties named Huang Jie. He had been an army driver, so his skills were impeccable. Seeing Zhao Yuan carrying armfuls of bags, he immediately came over to help.

After loading everything into the truck, Zhao Yuan noticed several boxes already in the truck bed. Huang Jie told him that President Fang had prepared these health supplements for him to take back as gifts. In addition to the Soul-Stabilizing Incense, Beauty Pills, and Vitality Pills produced by the factory, there were also things like bird’s nest, propolis, and deep-sea fish oil.

Then, following Zhao Yuan’s instructions, Huang Jie drove to the Antique Street to get a beautiful jade bracelet and a few gold and silver accessories from Cheng Yunlong, which Zhao Yuan planned to give to his mother and sister.

It was already noon by the time they returned to the university.

Zhao Yuan gathered his three dorm mates, invited Lin Xue and her roommates, and treated them all to a big meal at a restaurant off-campus. He had also invited Huang Jie, but the driver politely declined, saying he needed to watch the things in the truck. So, Zhao Yuan had a meal packed for him and brought it over.

After they had all eaten and drunk their fill, Zhao Yuan said goodbye to his friends, got into the pickup truck, and set off on the road home.
