Divine Level Witch Doctor

In the blink of an eye, the day of the New Year’s Gala arrived.

According to West Hua Medical University’s schedule, the New Year’s Gala was set to begin at six in the evening. However, just after noon, a large number of people had already arrived on campus.

These were the students brought by the musicians and dancers who had come to attend West Hua Medical University’s New Year’s Gala. Since Zhang Liping and Huang Shijia had spoken so emphatically, claiming a world-shaking performance that would go down in history would be revealed here, they couldn’t possibly enjoy it all by themselves. They had to bring their students along to learn from the experience.

At that moment, the musicians and dancers were sipping tea and reminiscing with Zhang Liping, Huang Shijia, and others. Their students weren’t qualified to join this gathering, so they arranged to head over to West Hua Medical University early to check things out.

As the chosen disciples of famous musicians and dancers, these young people were highly skilled in their respective fields, and naturally, quite arrogant. To be honest, they didn’t believe a medical university’s New Year’s Gala could possibly produce any work of true quality.

The group strolled through West Hua Medical University, chatting as they walked.

”I really don’t get what Teacher Zhang and Elder Huang are thinking. This is a medical university, not a conservatory of music and dance. It’d be a miracle if they produced anything ’world-shaking’!”

”Exactly! A ’world-shaking work of quality’? That’s way too high of an evaluation! In the entire music and dance world today, very few works could live up to that description. Even the masters can’t reach that standard, so how could a bunch of medical students? What a joke!”

”Are you saying Teacher Zhang and Elder Huang are lying?”

As soon as these words were spoken, the group fell silent.

’Suspect Zhang Liping and Huang Shijia of lying? If they actually dared to admit it, they could forget about ever making it in their circles again!’

The atmosphere instantly became silent and awkward.

After a long moment, someone finally said, ”It’s not that the two teachers are lying. It’s possible they were deceived.”

This piqued everyone’s curiosity. They all asked, ”What do you mean?”

The person replied, ”My guess is that someone at this university is desperate for fame. They tricked our two teachers, using their status to lure our own masters here. Think about it. So many masters from the music and dance worlds showing up for a university’s New Year’s Gala—that’s a hot news topic in itself. Then they just have to hire some paid posters to hype it up, and they’ll be famous overnight, right?”

As soon as this theory was proposed, the group immediately started discussing it.

Although some disagreed, a portion of the group felt the theory was quite plausible.

They were already reluctant to come to West Hua Medical University for a New Year’s Gala—it was far too low-brow for them. Now, with this new suspicion, their resistance to the event grew even stronger.

If they hadn’t come with their teachers, they probably would have turned around and left on the spot.

As they talked, the group arrived at West Hua Medical University’s grand auditorium.

The New Year’s Gala would be held here that evening.

When the group walked into the auditorium, the final drills and rehearsals were underway.

After seeing the stage design, sound system, and lighting effects, the group curled their lips in disdain and started complaining again.

”This is awful!”

”Right? Not professional at all!”

”This stage design is just tacky as hell! And the lights, the sound system, it’s all amateur-level. It’s too painful to even look at!”

”What a waste of such a great auditorium!”

These people were just nitpicking. The stage, lighting, and sound system had all been set up by the students of West Hua Medical University. How could it possibly compare to a professional production? Even so, the quality wasn’t bad at all. For a school gala, it was definitely top-notch, not losing out even when compared to conservatories of music and dance.

Unfortunately, they were already biased, so naturally, they found fault with everything they saw.

Luckily, their words weren’t overheard by the West Hua Medical University students, or a conflict would have surely broken out. Anyone would be furious to hear their hard work being denigrated like that.

The group didn’t stay long in the auditorium. After offering some acrimonious criticism, they turned and left.

After returning, they told their teachers about their observations and suspicions. This caused the musicians and dancers to harbor doubts of their own—in truth, they had been plenty skeptical even before coming here.

After some consideration, the musicians and dancers all expressed a similar sentiment to their students: ”Regardless, we’re already here, so we might as well go and watch tonight. If it’s really as you suspect, we will all issue a joint statement condemning this matter! We’ll make sure that arrogant self-promoter reaps what they sow!”

Time quickly passed, and soon it was six in the evening.

Inside West Hua Medical University, the grand auditorium, which could hold several thousand people, was packed to the rafters.

Students who couldn’t get into the auditorium were watching the live video stream on West Hua Medical University’s official website via their computers and phones.

Zhang Liping, Huang Shijia, and the other musicians and dancers were all seated in the front two rows of the auditorium. Besides them, school leaders like Ma Guotao and officials from the Bureau of Education who had been invited were also present.

As for the students brought by these musicians and dancers, they also had seats, but they were not as close to the front, situated a bit further back.

On stage, the main curtain opened, and a male and a female host walked out.

Both hosts were students from West Hua Medical University who were emceeing for the event. To be honest, their hosting skills were quite decent, but in the eyes of the musicians’ and dancers’ students—who were clearly there to find fault—they were as bad as could be. The visitors couldn’t help but start whispering sarcastic comments.

As the performances went on one by one, the sound of their sarcastic remarks grew louder. Gradually, the surrounding West Hua Medical University students heard their jeering and shot them angry glares. A few impulsive students even rolled up their sleeves, ready to go ”have a word” with them, which finally made their mockery quiet down a bit.

In the front rows, the musicians and dancers were also frowning.

For people of their caliber, the performances on stage were utterly amateurish.

However, they didn’t voice their complaints like their disciples. Still, they couldn’t resist asking Zhang Liping and Huang Shijia, ”Are you two certain that a masterpiece will appear at this gala?”

Zhang Liping and Huang Shijia exchanged a glance, smiled, and said in unison, ”We’re certain. Just you wait and see!”

The performances continued one after another. But just as it was time for Zhang Chao, Zhao Yuan’s classmate, to go on stage for his magic act, something went wrong...
