Divine Level Witch Doctor

A flicker of panic flashed through the truck driver’s eyes, but he quickly forced himself to calm down and yelled, ”Don’t spout nonsense! I never meant to kill you! That… that was just a traffic accident.”

”A traffic accident?”

Zhao Yuan sneered.

”Do you take me for a three-year-old? If you had nothing to hide, why would you flee the scene of the accident? Why would you try everything to shake me when I caught up? Alright, cut the act. Tell me, who sent you?”

”Nobody sent me, and I never meant to kill you. It was just a traffic accident. I ran because I’ve never been in a situation like this before, and I was scared. I know I was wrong now. I’ll call the police this instant and let them handle the accident.”

The truck driver stuck to his story that it was an accident, even taking out his phone to call the police. But before he could dial, Zhao Yuan snatched it from his hand.

”What are you doing? Are you robbing me? Help! I’m being robbed in broad daylight!” the truck driver began to shout again. He actually managed to attract a crowd of onlookers, but they all just stood at a distance, pointing and muttering. No one came forward to help.

Zhao Yuan raised his hand and slapped him across the face. The force of the blow made the man’s mouth gush with blood and knocked out two of his teeth.

The near-death experience had thoroughly enraged Zhao Yuan. Radiating Killing Qi, he said, ”So you want to play tough? Fine. Let’s see just how tough you are!”

”What are you going to do?” the truck driver asked, his face a mask of terror. He tried to run, but just as he scrambled up from the ground, Zhao Yuan kicked him back down. Then, with a flick of his wrist, Zhao Yuan plunged several Golden Needles into the man’s body.

”AHH—”

The truck driver immediately felt an intense, painful itch assault his senses. He began to scratch frantically with both hands, but the more he scratched, the worse the itching became. The agonizing sensation was everywhere, and two hands weren’t nearly enough to handle it. In the blink of an eye, the driver had clawed bloody streaks all over his body, creating a horrifying and gruesome sight.

”How does that feel? Still want to play tough?” Zhao Yuan asked.

The truck driver felt like he was being driven insane. He would rather die than endure this torment for another second.

Hearing Zhao Yuan’s question, he frantically shook his head.

”Ready to answer my questions now?” Zhao Yuan asked again.

The truck driver nodded incessantly. As long as this goddamned, agonizing torment would stop, he would agree to anything without a moment’s hesitation.

Zhao Yuan didn’t remove the Golden Needles. Instead, he raised his hand and pressed a spot on the truck driver’s Chest Acupoint.

The truck driver instantly felt the intense agony that had enveloped his body recede like a tide.

Having survived the ordeal, he collapsed onto the ground, completely drenched in sweat.

Zhao Yuan leaned down and threatened, ”Don’t say I didn’t warn you. The needles are still inside your body. If you tell me even half a lie, I’ll make you experience that torment all over again, only it’ll be even more intense!”

The truck driver shuddered.

’That last round of torment already made me want to die,’ he thought. ’More intense? Just how terrifying would that be?!’

The truck driver swore to the heavens, ”I’ll tell you everything! I won’t lie, I promise!”

”Who hired you to kill me?” Zhao Yuan asked.

The truck driver answered, ”It was Wu Qizheng. He gave me five hundred thousand yuan and this truck, and told me to run you down and make it look like a regular traffic accident.”

”Wu Qizheng?”

Zhao Yuan frowned. He was certain he didn’t know anyone by that name.

”Who is this Wu Qizheng? And why does he want me dead?”

The truck driver replied, ”I only know that Wu Qizheng is a fixer with a lot of power and connections in Rongcheng City. I don’t know anything else. As for why he wants to kill you, I’m not sure about that either. I just know someone hired him to do it.”

”Who hired him?” Zhao Yuan pressed.

The truck driver shook his head. ”I don’t know. Wu Qizheng never told me.”

Zhao Yuan snorted and asked, ”Where can I find this Wu Qizheng?”

”I don’t know,” the truck driver said. ”Every time we met, he was the one who set the time and place. But I’ve heard the Emperor Nightclub might be connected to him, that it’s one of his businesses.”

Zhao Yuan’s brow furrowed as he quickly ran through the possibilities.

’I don’t have many enemies, and even fewer who could cough up five hundred grand to have me killed. After thinking it over, besides someone connected to the Ji Family Brothers, the only other likely suspect is the Jinling Zhao Family.’

If he had the time, Zhao Yuan would have hunted down Wu Qizheng to get some answers. But he had to rush to Jinling and couldn’t find Wu Qizheng himself. That didn’t mean, however, that he was just going to let it go.

Zhao Yuan took out his phone, dialed Lu Qing’s number, and gave her a concise summary of what had happened, including the truck driver’s confession.

Lu Qing was shocked when she heard the story.

A contract killing was a major case to begin with, let alone when the target was her savior, Zhao Yuan. Even though the incident occurred outside her precinct’s jurisdiction, she and Xian Hong still rushed to the scene immediately.

At the same time, the police and traffic cops from the local precinct also arrived, having received the emergency call.

Zhao Yuan handed the truck driver over to Xian Hong and Lu Qing. ”Officer Xian, Officer Lu, he’s all yours,” he said. ”I only have one request: I want to know who put a hit on me!”

”Don’t worry, we’ll get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible!” Xian Hong and Lu Qing said in unison.

The officers from the local precinct frowned. They wanted to say that the case wasn’t in their jurisdiction, but they swallowed their words.

Xian Hong had been on a roll lately, cracking several major cases in a row. Rumor had it he was about to be transferred to the municipal bureau and promoted to deputy chief, so these officers didn’t dare get on his bad side.

Knowing Zhao Yuan had a flight to catch, Lu Qing took a brief statement from him right there at the scene.

As he was about to leave, Zhao Yuan looked at the truck driver. A thought suddenly occurred to him, and he asked, ”I’m curious. How did you know we’d be taking this road?”

The truck driver quickly answered, ”Wu Qizheng had his men tailing your car.”

Hearing this, the expressions on both Xian Hong and Lu Qing’s faces changed.

If they were being tailed, then Wu Qizheng most likely already knew what had happened here. If the man took the opportunity to flee, it would make things much more difficult.

Zhao Yuan wasn’t worried, though. He had his Tracking Technique. Even if the police couldn’t find Wu Qizheng, he could still lock onto the man’s location.

”One last question,” Zhao Yuan said. ”Since Wu Qizheng told you to make the murder look like a regular traffic accident, why did you flee the scene instead of stopping after the crash? Doing that basically screamed that something was wrong, didn’t it?”

The truck driver’s face was a mask of misery. ”I was thinking… even if it was a regular accident that resulted in a death, I’d still have to do several years in prison. If I could get away, then I’d get the money and not have to do any time…”

”Utter fool,” Zhao Yuan spat out.

He was cursing the driver not only for his pathetic attempt to outsmart the system, but also for the utter foolishness of being willing to kill for money.
