The Maker: Hollywood

The digital landscape didn’t just fracture; it completely detonated.

For the last four years, Daniel Miller had been the untouchable golden boy of Hollywood. He possessed an absolutely, flawlessly clean record. There were no drunken arrests, no screaming matches on set, no shady financial dealings, and zero tabloid scandals. He was the guy who made billion-dollar masterpieces, treated his crews like actual human beings, and went home to his gorgeous, equally talented fiancée.

It drove his competitors completely insane. Studio executives who had been surviving on cocaine, PR spin, and messy divorces for decades deeply resented the kid who seemed completely immune to the poison of the industry. They had been waiting in the weeds for years, absolutely desperate for him to slip up.

When the TMZ article dropped, they finally got their ammunition.

The picture of Daniel and Margot on the rented boat in Positano spread faster than a California wildfire. Within twenty minutes, every single major entertainment site had a banner headline plastered across their front page.

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: SCANDAL IN BEL AIR: How Will the Miller Studios Empire Navigate a Massive Cheating Controversy?

PAGE SIX: FLORENCE BETRAYED: Exclusive Photos Show Daniel Miller Romancing Margot Robbie on Secret Amalfi Coast Trip!

The articles were vicious. The industry journalists who usually tripped over themselves to praise his cinematography were now penning dramatic, multi-page think-pieces about the corrupting nature of absolute power. They painted Daniel as a typical, sleazy Hollywood prick who finally let the billions go to his head. They framed Margot as the opportunistic co-star who took the on-screen Harley and Joker romance way too far.

But the articles were nothing compared to the absolute warzone of the comment sections. Twitter and Reddit were actively melting down.

Megathread: DANIEL MILLER / MARGOT ROBBIE CHEATING SCANDAL

u/TeaTimeLA: I literally always knew it. I always said no guy with that much power is actually a decent person. The ”perfect fiancé” routine was total bullshit. Florence deserves so much better.

u/CinephileTrash: This actually sucks man. I genuinely looked up to him. I thought he was different from the rest of the creeps in this industry. Throwing away a relationship with Florence Pugh for a fling? Disgusting.

u/JokerStan99: Are we just ignoring the Joker chemistry? Everybody saw that movie. You don’t fake that kind of tension. They probably never stopped hooking up after the movie wrapped.

u/LogicBro: Y’all are so gullible it’s actually funny. Look at the water around the edge of the boat. Look at the lighting on her arm. IT’S AI. You can literally generate a photorealistic image of anyone kissing anyone now. Daniel was in LA editing Star Wars.

u/DenialRiver: Exactly! It’s definitely an AI deepfake. The rival studios are terrified of him because Harry Potter is making way too much money, so Disney or Universal probably paid someone to make a fake photo to ruin his image right as Star Wars starts shooting.

u/SaltyPopcorn: Lmao the copium in this thread is insane. He cheated. He’s rich and he cheated. Welcome to the real world.

And then there were Miller’s Muses.

Daniel’s ultra-dedicated, heavily thirsty, incredibly vocal internet fanclub was having a collective, highly public mental breakdown. When Daniel and Florence had announced their engagement, the Muses had mourned the loss of their single crush, but they had ultimately accepted it. They called Daniel and Florence ”Mom and Dad.” They made cute Pinterest boards of their red carpet looks.

This photo completely broke their brains. The hashtag #MillersMuses was a chaotic mess of grief, anger, and absolute unhinged delusion.

@Muse_Sarah: I am physically throwing up and crying right now. Mom and Dad are dead. Love is fake. I’m ripping my Vice City poster off my wall I swear to god.

@DaniMillerWife: If he actually cheated on Florence I’m going to hunt him down myself. How do you cheat on FLORENCE PUGH?! Are you stupid?!

@ThirstyForDan: okay but hear me out... what if he just has two girlfriends? because honestly if he’s taking applications for a third I am right here. put me on the boat next.

@HarleyJokerForever: The grip this man has on the hottest women in Hollywood is actually terrifying. Margot Robbie? Damn.

While the internet burned, Daniel was already moving. He pulled out his phone and hit speed dial for Apex Security.

”I need an extraction at the Prada boutique in Beverly Hills,” Daniel barked into the phone the second the dispatcher picked up. ”Target is Margot Robbie. The press is going to descend on Rodeo Drive in about five minutes. Send a decoy SUV to the front entrance. Heavy tint. Make it obvious. While they swarm the front, send a secondary team to the loading dock in the back alley. Get her in a low-profile sedan and bring her straight to Bel Air. Keep everyone away from her.”

”Copy that, Mr. Miller. Teams are moving now,” the dispatcher confirmed.

Daniel hung up, grabbed his car keys, and sprinted out to his Range Rover. He slammed the car into gear and tore out of the Bel Air gates, heading straight for the San Fernando Valley lot.

He knew this was coming eventually. You couldn’t hide someone like Margot Robbie forever, and he had never planned to keep her a secret anyway. He hated that she was currently being framed as a homewrecker. It was incredibly unfair to her. He had wanted to handle this on their own terms, not have the narrative snatched away by a guy with a zoom lens hiding on an Italian cliff.

He pulled up to the security gates at the Valley lot. The guards already looked incredibly stressed. Three news vans were parked on the shoulder of the road across the street, reporters aggressively setting up cameras on the sidewalk.

”Keep the gates locked tight,” Daniel told the head guard as he rolled his window down. ”Nobody gets on this lot without a Miller Studios badge. I don’t care if they say they’re with the LAPD, you verify it.”

”Yes sir,” the guard nodded quickly.

Daniel drove onto the lot, pulling right up to the massive doors of the stunt training facility. He killed the engine and walked inside.

The massive warehouse was surprisingly quiet. The stunt coordinators were standing near the foam pits, whispering to each other, looking at their phones.

Florence was sitting on a crash mat in the center of the room. She was still wearing her heavy wire harness, a bottle of water in her hand. She was staring at her phone screen.

She looked up as Daniel walked over.

She wasn’t crying. She didn’t look heartbroken. She looked absolutely, profoundly pissed off.

”Hey,” Daniel said quietly, stopping a few feet away.

”I look like an absolute idiot,” Florence said, tossing her phone onto the mat. ”The entire internet is currently calling me a tragic, oblivious victim. Do you know how annoying that is? I have people I haven’t spoken to in three years texting me ’stay strong babe.’ I want to punch a wall.”

”I know,” Daniel said, running a hand through his hair. ”I’m sorry, Flo. I really am. I should have been more careful.”

”Careful?” Florence scoffed, standing up and unbuckling the heavy straps of her stunt harness. ”Dan, I literally forced the two of you to go to Italy. I told you to go to a private villa to get a break from this exact bullshit. And some creep with a telephoto lens still manages to ruin it. It’s infuriating. Where is Margot?”

”Apex is pulling her out of Beverly Hills right now,” Daniel said. ”They’re taking her back to the house. Let’s go.”

Forty-five minutes later, the Bel Air estate felt like a war room.

Daniel and Florence walked through the front doors just as the low-profile Apex sedan pulled into the garage. Margot walked into the kitchen a second later, escorted by two massive security guards. She looked a little shaken, holding a pair of oversized sunglasses in her hand.

”It’s an absolute zoo out there,” Margot said, dropping the sunglasses onto the marble island. ”There were helicopters over Rodeo Drive. Literal helicopters.”

Daniel walked over to her immediately. He pulled her into a tight hug, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

”I’m sorry,” Daniel said softly, holding her close. ”This isn’t how this was supposed to happen. I never wanted you dragged through the mud like this.”

Margot hugged him back tightly, burying her face in his chest for a second before pulling back. She offered a small, slightly forced smile. ”It’s fine. We knew the bubble was going to pop eventually. I’m just glad I didn’t have to fight my way to the car.”

Florence walked over, leaning against the counter next to them. ”Are you okay, Mar?”

”I’m good,” Margot nodded, letting out a heavy breath. ”Just overwhelmed. My agent left me fourteen voicemails in ten minutes. She thinks my career is over.”

Daniel’s phone started buzzing violently on the marble counter. The caller ID flashed Marcus Blackwood’s name.

Daniel reached over and hit the speaker button. ”Marcus. Talk to me.”

”Okay, the PR inbox is crashing,” Marcus’s voice echoed through the kitchen, sounding incredibly stressed. ”I have executives at Legendary calling me, panicking that the Return of the Jedi press tour is going to turn into a circus. The narrative is awful, Dan. It’s completely toxic. The internet is literally eating itself alive.”

”Just take a breath, Marcus,” Daniel told him calmly. ”What are the PR firms suggesting?”

”They gave me two options,” Marcus said, the sound of furious typing coming through the speaker. ”Option A is the AI defense. Half your fanbase is already convinced the photo is a deepfake because the lighting on the boat is a little weird from the lens distortion. We put out a firm, aggressive statement from our legal team stating the photo is maliciously manufactured by a competitor. We threaten to sue TMZ for defamation. We muddy the waters enough that nobody knows what to believe.”

Daniel crossed his arms, exchanging a look with Florence. ”And Option B?”

”Option B is the traditional apology tour,” Marcus said grimly. ”We say you and Florence have been quietly separated for a few months due to the stress of the Star Wars shoot. We say you and Margot reconnected recently in Italy. You issue a very sterile, very polite public apology to the fans for the ’confusion,’ ask for privacy during this difficult time, and we lay low.”

Daniel didn’t even hesitate. ”Scrap both of them. I’m not doing either.”

”Dan, you have to control the damage—”

”I don’t have to do shit, Marcus,” Daniel interrupted, his voice dropping into a hard, authoritative register. ”Listen to me very carefully. I am not some twenty-two-year-old sitcom actor who needs to grovel to a studio head to keep his job. There are no investors to spook. There is no stock to crash. I own this studio outright. I have billions of dollars in liquid capital sitting in private accounts. I am completely self-funded.”

Daniel leaned closer to the phone.

”I am not going to lie and say the photo is fake, because I’m not hiding behind an AI excuse,” Daniel continued. ”And I am absolutely not going to put out a fake PR statement saying Florence and I are separated. I’m not going to pretend my relationship with Margot is some dirty little rebound fling. I refuse to play this humiliating, pathetic Hollywood game where I apologize to strangers for my actual life.”

Marcus swallowed audibly over the phone. ”Okay. Okay. But Dan, if we don’t deny it, and we don’t apologize... the press is going to camp outside your house for the next six months. How do you want to handle this?”

”I’ll handle it,” Daniel said. ”Put a blanket ’no comment’ out to the press. Tell them Miller Studios does not comment on the personal lives of its executives or actors. Hang up on anyone who calls back. I’ll give you our actual play tonight.”

Daniel tapped the screen, ending the call.

The kitchen fell silent. Daniel looked at Florence and Margot.

”I can squash the business side of this all day long,” Daniel said, his tone softening as he looked at his partners. ”The studio is a fortress. They can’t touch us financially. But this is about our actual lives. The internet is going to be a nightmare for a while. What do you guys want to do?”

Margot sighed, hopping up to sit on the edge of the marble island. ”I mean... we could just tell them the truth. We’re busy, hardworking people. The industry is exhausting. We support each other. Everyone here is fully aware and fully consenting. If we frame it as three friends who care about each other navigating a heavy schedule, maybe people would just get over it.”

”Exactly,” Daniel agreed, nodding. ”We just own it. It’s an unconventional partnership. We just exist openly, and we dare them to do something about it.”

It sounded incredibly simple.

But Florence let out a dark, bitter laugh, crossing her arms tightly.

”It’s a great speech, Dan,” Florence said quietly. ”It really is. And Margot, I love the optimism. But it only works for him.”

Daniel frowned, confused. ”What do you mean?”

Florence looked directly at Daniel, her eyes hard. ”Dan, the world is incredibly sexist. You’re a billionaire director. If you come out and say ’Yeah, I have two beautiful, successful girlfriends, what of it?’... half the industry is going to quietly high-five you in the boardroom. The fanboys on Reddit will call you an absolute legend. You get to be the rockstar.”

Margot’s optimistic expression faltered as the reality of Florence’s words set in. She looked down at her hands.

”And what do you think they are going to call us?” Florence asked, her voice razor-sharp. ”The tabloids aren’t going to call us a ’modern, unconventional partnership.’ They are going to absolutely tear us apart. They will brand Margot as a shameless gold-digger who slept her way into your bed to get cast in your movies. And they will paint me as a weak, pathetic doormat who is too scared of losing her rich fiancé to leave him.”

The room went completely silent again.

Daniel looked at Florence, and then at Margot. A sudden, massive wave of guilt hit him like a physical punch to the gut. He had been looking at the situation entirely from the perspective of an untouchable billionaire. He had completely ignored the reality of being a woman in the public eye. The media loved building women up just to violently tear them down, and this was the perfect excuse.

”You’re right,” Daniel said quietly, his jaw clenching. ”You’re completely right. I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking about the double standard at all. That’s my fault.”

He ran a hand through his hair, pacing a few steps across the kitchen.

”Look,” Daniel said, turning back to them. ”I want to make this right. I am not going to let the media drag either of you through the mud because I was sloppy in Italy. If you want, I’ll call Marcus back. We’ll run Option B. We’ll say Florence and I broke up a month ago. I’ll take all the heat. I’ll be the villain. It protects both of your images.”

”No,” Margot said immediately.

She pushed herself off the counter, walking over to stand next to Florence.

”I’m not doing that,” Margot said, her voice firm, looking right at Daniel. ”I am not going to spend the next five years of my life sneaking out the back doors of restaurants and hiding in the trunk of your car just to avoid upsetting some miserable housewife reading a tabloid in a grocery store.”

Florence nodded, her chin lifting defiantly. She reached out and grabbed Margot’s hand, squeezing it.

”If we put out a fake breakup statement, they win,” Florence said. ”The paparazzi win. The sleazebags writing the articles win. They get to dictate how we live our lives based on their outdated morals. I refuse to give them that kind of power over me. I’m not a victim, and I’m not going to play one for the press just to make them comfortable.”

Daniel looked at the two of them. They were incredibly stubborn, fiercely independent, and absolutely terrifying when they were on the same page.

”You know how brutal the media is going to be,” Daniel warned them, though a slow smile was starting to pull at the corner of his mouth. ”It’s going to be a bloodbath for a few weeks. Every late-night talk show host is going to make a joke about it.”

”I survived playing Harley Quinn in a corset,” Margot smiled coldly. ”I can survive a few mean tweets.”

”So,” Daniel said, crossing his arms. ”No apologies. No fake breakups. We do it your way.”

”We do it together,” Florence corrected him.

”How do we want to drop it?” Margot asked, looking between them. ”We can’t just post a selfie on Instagram. That’s tacky.”

Daniel thought about it for a second. His brain started shifting back into the strategic, hyper-focused mode he used to direct massive set pieces.

”The Vanity Fair Oscars after-party is in two weeks,” Daniel pointed out. ”It’s the biggest media event of the year. Every camera on the planet is going to be pointed at that red carpet.”

Florence’s eyes lit up with a dangerous, brilliant spark. ”Oh, that is incredibly arrogant.”

”We don’t release a statement,” Daniel said, looking at both of them. ”We don’t do a tearful magazine interview to explain ourselves. We just pull up to the biggest red carpet in the world. All three of us. We hold hands, we stand there, we let them take the pictures, and we force the entire world to deal with it.”

Margot let out a sharp laugh, shaking her head. ”It’s going to break the internet in half.”

”Good,” Daniel smiled. ”Let it break.”
