I Married the President

Chapter 659: Chapter 659: A Childish Surprise

But what could she do?

After spending so many days with him, she had already fallen for him. She’d tumbled into his world without any warning and couldn’t pull herself out.

She knew he was incapable of giving his heart to a woman, yet she wanted to try. She wanted to capture his heart, to possess him completely, to grow old with him...

She knew she was being greedy, which was why she’d been trying so hard to win him over.

She never imagined that after all she had given, there still wasn’t the slightest space for her in his heart.

All her efforts couldn’t compare to a single fool.

Corinne Linden felt like an idiot, but she refused to admit defeat. There was still time. As long as she didn’t give up, she was bound to get something in return.

Thinking this, Corinne Linden forced herself to remain calm and said, ”You say I’m not as good as Claire Sinclair, and it’s true my connections don’t compare to hers. But to say I’m not even as good as that fool? What gives you the right to say that?”

”Little Cutie...” Ethan Kingsley stared blankly at the ceiling. Her face appeared in his mind without warning, and the corners of his lips curled up unconsciously. ”She’s my little sweetheart.”

That’s right, he remembered now.

On his eighteenth birthday, she had given him a special present.

She had packed herself into a giant candy box to give him a childish surprise.

Back then, she had said, ”Brother Kingsley, do you think I’m sweet? Let me be your little sweetheart, okay?”

What had he said back then?

He seemed to have said...

Stop messing around, you child.

Seeing he was unhappy, she grew anxious and tried to climb out of the box, but her unstable center of gravity caused her to topple over with it. He had laughed at her for a long time back then.

And after that?

He couldn’t remember clearly.

As Ethan Kingsley thought about these memories from their youth, a tearing pain always seemed to grip his heart.

He propped himself up, found a half-finished bottle of liquor, and started drinking again.

Corinne Linden reached out and snatched the bottle away, shouting angrily, ”Stop drinking!”

Ethan Kingsley glanced at her but didn’t fight for it. He lay back down on the floor and said with a laugh, ”I gave her away to someone else. I wonder if she’ll be sad...”

Seeing his dejected and lost appearance, Corinne Linden couldn’t help but lean closer to him.

...

「A few minutes later.」

”Ethan Kingsley, you bastard!” Corinne Linden cursed before storming out and slamming the door.

Ethan Kingsley slowly sat up, straightened his clothes, and used the table and chairs to pull himself to his feet. He picked up the phone that had been tossed on the sofa, then sat down on it.

He scrolled through his call history and finally landed on Seth Payne’s number.

”Give me Lucas Rhodes’s number. I need to call Little Cutie.”

”Yes, sir.”

After hanging up, Ethan Kingsley waited patiently for a few minutes until Seth Payne finally sent the number over.

Ethan Kingsley dialed the number, and after ringing for a long time, the call finally connected. ”I’m looking for Little Cutie. Put her on the phone.”

Lucas Rhodes frowned slightly and said in a low voice, ”Have you looked at the time? She’s already asleep.”

”Asleep?” Ethan Kingsley moved the phone away from his ear to check the time. 1:00 AM. ’So it is that late already,’ he thought.

Ethan Kingsley’s lips curled. ”Such a good girl, sleeping on time. Tomorrow, I’ll have someone send a phone over to her. That way, she can contact me whenever she wants.”

His voice was somewhat languid, and Lucas Rhodes could tell he had been drinking. He said, ”Young Master Kingsley, since you’ve already let her go, don’t drag this out. It’s better for both of you.”

”Don’t give me that crap. Little Cutie just got to your place, so she might not be used to it. If you happen to bully her, I need to be able to find out right away.”

”What, in your opinion, constitutes bullying her?” Lucas Rhodes suddenly asked.

Before Ethan Kingsley could reply, he immediately followed up with another question: ”Does getting her pregnant count as bullying?”
