Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 700: 699 Ah Mu has always liked Ranran.

Mo Xiuchen had already detected the fleeting sorrow in Gu Kai’s eyes. In an instant, pain swept through his heart. As he spoke, his other hand reached for Gu Kai’s pocket.

“I didn’t bring my cellphone.”

Gu Kai held his hand, his voice maintaining calm, ignoring the throbbing pain in his arm which he held tightly, he met Mo Xiuchen’s intense gaze head-on.

Mo Xiuchen clenched his lips tightly, shrugged Gu Kai’s hand off, and began to stride out.

Gu Kai’s face turned pale, he hurriedly intercepted him at the door of the ward: “Xiuchen, where are you going?”

“Back to my country.”

Mo Xiuchen’s voice was icy cold, his eyes sharp and angry as they glared at Gu Kai. He pushed Gu Kai aside and rushed out of the ward.

“Xiuchen, you can’t go back.”

Out in the hallway, Gu Kai caught up with Mo Xiuchen. His previously calm eyes were now misty with tears, and a mask of sadness had descended over his handsome and warm features. “Xiuchen, come back to the ward. I will tell you everything.”

He knew he couldn’t keep the secret from Mo Xiuchen.

If it hadn’t been for his selfishness, Mo Xiuchen should have been lying in the operation room by now. Thinking about the words his father had relayed over the phone caused an intense stabbing pain in his heart.

Mo Xiuchen stared at Gu Kai’s teary eyes. His thin lips were on a cold straight line. His tall figure stood rigidly in the corridor, listening to an unfamiliar voice resonating in his mind: “Talk here.”

“Let’s go in and talk, this isn’t something that can be clarified in a few sentences.”

Gu Kai insisted, he took a deep breath, seeing Mo Xiuchen standing still like a statue, he threatened: “Xiuchen, if you want to know what happened, come back to the ward with me.”

For a moment, Mo Xiuchen suddenly didn’t want to know.

He retreated under Gu Kai’s teary gaze, fearing that he would hear something unbearable.

Gu Kai had already returned to the ward. In the corridor, only Mo Xiuchen remained. A chill enveloped him, and his tall body shivered involuntarily.

In the end, he returned to the ward.

Seeing Gu Kai sitting on the couch, eyes cast down, with an inexplicable look on his face but radiating a deep sadness, Mo Xiuchen felt his breath stuck and his hands abruptly clenched into fists.

Even if Gu Kai didn’t say anything, he knew something must have happened to Ranran.

Ranran, Ranran!

He repeated silently in his mind. No, nothing can happen to Ranran.

“Xiuchen, do you want to or not?”

Gu Kai had raised his head at some point, glancing towards the door. Mo Xiuchen met his tear-filled eyes, and like a robot, he walked towards him and sat across him on the sofa.

He forced himself to stay calm and clear-headed; he couldn’t make wild guesses before knowing what had really happened.

Seeing the dumbfounded expression on his face, Gu Kai was overwhelmed with sadness. He mumbled, “Xiuchen, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t let you hear such news so selfishly. Ranran’s wish was for us to get your surgery done earlier and erase her from your heart. That way, you wouldn’t feel sad because of her.”

“But… I didn’t immediately send you to the operation room. I thought, even if we erase her memories in the end, you should at least hear her last wish.”

Mo Xiuchen did not interrupt him, but silently listened to Gu Kai continue, “Two days ago in the afternoon, Ranran was taken by Fu Jingyi’s men…”

The time difference between D Country and A City is more than ten hours.

During the day in D Country, it’s nighttime in A City. Gu Kai received the first call from Qing Feng in the wee hours of the night. Coincidentally, Mo Xiuchen was sound asleep at the same time.

Fearing that he would rush off to his country without a second thought if he learned the situation, Gu Kai put some medicine in Mo Xiuchen’s water. He woke up, drank the water and fell asleep again within few minutes.

When he woke up, an entire day had already passed.

He still thinks he had gone to sleep in the afternoon and woke up the next morning, unaware that he had actually slept from yesterday’s afternoon to this morning.

The dose Gu Kai gave him was heavy because he knew Mo Xiuchen was a man with a strong willpower. He feared small doses would have no effect on him so he had added extra.

While he slept, there had been earth-shattering changes in A City.

That afternoon, when Qin Mu received a call from Wen Jin about Liao Dongxing and Qin Sen trying to flee the country with their families, he called his grandfather. They had a plan, and even imprisoned Liao Dongxing’s wife and son, planning to exchange them for Wen Ran.

But who would know what a despicable man Liao Dongxing turned out to be. He strapped a bomb on Wen Ran.

He figured out that Qin Mu was an upright man who wouldn’t harm his family. Their threats meant nothing to him, and instead steeled his resolve to send them all to their deaths.

The place they met wasn’t the private room of the club at night but a mountain, as Qin Mu and his allies had guessed, Liao Dongxing had changed the location at the last minute.

At the foot of the mountain was a raging river.

When Liao Dongxing threatened them all with Wen Ran and asked them to jump off the cliff, everyone was stunned.

60 seconds to make a choice between life and death.

Gu Kai could not imagine the situation then. He only heard his father saying over the phone that Ranran jumped off the cliff for everyone’s sake…

He narrated the heart-stopping event in barely a minute.

“Xiuchen, when Ranran jumped off the cliff she asked my dad to tell you that she loves you. If you love her too, live on for her.”

Mo Xiuchen had turned into a statue, a statue that teared up but couldn’t speak.

He envisioned Wen Ran jumping off the cliff. She must have been very scared. She was just a weak girl, so kind, smart and adorable. Why did fate keep hurting her over and over?

“Xiuchen, the person who jumped off the cliff with Ranran, was also Ah Mu.”

Upon hearing Gu Kai’s words, Mo Xiuchen’s expression finally changed. It wasn’t shock, but a smile that baffles Gu Kai. He was actually smiling. Worriedly, Gu Kai cried out: “Xiuchen!”

Mo Xiuchen suppressed the bitter taste in his throat, a faint smile on his lips. He looked at Gu Kai warmly, although his vision was blurry, he still gazed softly at Gu Kai and uttered softly: “Ah Mu has always liked Ranran, did he also… accompanied Ranran in the end?”

His words hung in the air, causing Gu Kai’s heart to skip a beat. There was a bomb strapped to Ranran when she jumped from that high cliff, and for the past two days, there had been no news… He wanted to comfort Mo Xiuchen, perhaps Ah Mu and Ranran were alright. No news can be good news.

However, before he could say the comforting words, he swiftly stood up, circled the coffee table and rushed to Mo Xiuchen who was on the other side, watching the blood trickling out from the corner of his mouth in alarm: “Xiuchen, don’t scare me.”

After Mo Xiuchen spat out a mouthful of blood, his eyes closed, and he passed out.
