Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 679: 678 Fear, what if

Wen Ran’s mouth moved, but no sound came out. She just stared dumbly in the direction of the door; the familiar figure that used to be there was already gone, the footsteps in the corridor grew fainter with distance.

Because of the unclosed door, she could vaguely hear something being asked from the living room downstairs by Luo Haofeng.

Unable to see the situation downstairs, she could almost sense that Mo Xiuchen must have looked up towards the direction of the second floor before falling into a deathly silence.

She stood in the master bedroom, dazed, her vision blurring imperceptibly. Her fingernails digging into her soft palms, that insignificant pain was nothing compared to the torment in her heart.

The sharp ringtone of her phone reverberated in the quiet and sorrow-filled room. Wen Ran fiercely wiped her tears, took out her phone, saw the caller ID, pursed her lips, suppressed her sadness, and answered, “Hello, Xiaoxiao.”

“Ranran, have you been crying? Your voice sounds hoarse.”

The voice of Bai Xiaoxiao came through from the other side of the phone, full of concern.

The tears Wen Ran had finally managed to stop suddenly started flowing again because of her words. The depression in her heart surged like a wave under her care, rolling with a ferocity she could not stand.

She held the phone and squatted down in pain, unable to respond coherently.

“Ranran, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me.”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s worried and panicked shouts came from the phone, and took Wen Ran a long time to choked out a reply, “Xiaoxiao, I’m okay.”

Half an hour later, Bai Xiaoxiao rushed to her house and upon reaching the second floor, she saw Wen Ran sitting on the plush carpet with her knees drawn up. She squatted down and gently held her.

Wen Ran’s eyes were already red and swollen; she had cried almost all of her tears, remaining silent as Bai Xiaoxiao held her, not saying a word.

“Ranran, I know everything. Luo Haofeng told me. I also called Gu Kai and he said that Uncle Gu has developed a medicine for the disease and it is currently in the animal testing phase. Once it’s successful, it can be used.”

Wen Ran remained silent, biting her lip tightly.

“Ranran, if you don’t trust him alone, you should just go with him. Why put yourself in such a difficult position?”

Bai Xiaoxiao looked at Wen Ran’s red and swollen eyes, her desperate and sorrowful expression. Her heart ached, and her eyes started to fill with tears.

In Wen Ran’s tearful eyes was a dense pain she couldn ‘t dissipate. She stretched her lips into a sorrowful smile and said softly, “Xiaoxiao, he won’t let me go with him.”

He knew that she had been to D Country and knew about his illness. But he still didn’t want her to go with him.

“Ranran, if he doesn ‘t let you go, do you have to stay? If you can’t let go, just go with him. Mo Xiuchen won ‘t let you go because he thinks you don’t know about his situation.”

Wen Ran shook her head, “No, he knows.”

“Mo Xiuchen knows?”

Bai Xiaoxiao looked in shock at Wen Ran. Last night, Luo Haofeng told her roughly about the situation. They all thought that Mo Xiuchen didn’t know Wen Ran went to D Country, nor that she knew about his illness.

Now Wen Ran was telling her that Mo Xiuchen knew all along.

She was suddenly confused. Since Mo Xiuchen knew all along, why didn’t she go with him?

Wen Ran smiled eerily, her voice filled with self-contempt: “Xiaoxiao, actually, I’m just too cowardly. Just like you said, I should go with him, stay by Mo Xiuchen’s side, just like he did for me, guarding me every second.”

“But I’m afraid. Do you know? I’m afraid to see him in pain, I’m afraid that I can’t help crying in front of him, I’m more afraid what if…”

“Ranran, it won’t be like that. You and Mo Xiuchen love each other so much, he will definitely live to a ripe old age, growing old with you.”

Bai Xiaoxiao interrupted Wen Ran’s words with determination.

Wen Ran continued to smile, forcing herself to laugh: “Yes, so I dare not go. I would rather stay at home and deceive myself into thinking that he is on a trip, that he would come home once he is done. He will definitely come back, because he promised me.”

He promised, he will be back.

So, she can’t go, absolutely can’t go.

“Don’t be sad then. Think of it as his being on a business trip. Isn’t Qin Mu and Luo Haofeng with him? They will certainly bring him back to you safe and sound.”

Bai Xiaoxiao handed Wen Ran a tissue to wipe her tears. A damp patch had appeared on her own face as well.

Wen Ran took the tissue and wiped her tears herself, then looked at Bai Xiaoxiao and whispered, “Xiaoxiao, if you like Luo Haofeng, don’t let Aunt Qiao influence you. You must love him as fearlessly as you loved Xiao Yuting.”

“I know.”

Bai Xiaoxiao nodded and hugged her tightly once again.

She understood that Wen Ran was afraid that she and Luo Haofeng would miss each other due to her mother’s opposition and eventually regret it. Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen loved each other so much, yet ended up in such a state due to various reasons. She didn’t want her friends to be unhappy as well.

**

A City

As soon as Mo Xiuchen, Qin Mu, and Luo Haofeng disembarked from the plane, someone came to pick them up; it was the driver from Qin Mu’s family.

As they got in the car, Qin Mu explained, “Xiuchen, Haofeng, you won’t need to stay in a hotel for the next few days. Just stay at my house, it’s more convenient.”

Mo Xiuchen nodded his agreement, and Luo Haofeng cheerfully agreed as well.

“Haofeng, call Xiaoxiao and tell her to spend more time with Ranran these days.”

Mo Xiuchen turned to look at Luo Haofeng sitting next to him and calmly instructed. Qin Mu, hearing his words, squinted slightly and Luo Haofeng raised an eyebrow, “I’ve already told Xiaoxiao to spend more time with Wen Ran when she has time.”

“Hmm, Ranran tends to overthink when she’s alone. The cherries in the countryside are ripe now. Call Xiaoxiao again later and ask them to stay there a couple of days, Ranran loves cherries.”

Mo Xiuchen’s lips curled into a slight smile. His deep eyes sparkled with warmth. Whenever he mentioned Wen Ran, not only did his voice become warm, even his whole being seemed to radiate warmth.

“Xiuchen, actually, you should tell Wen Ran about your frequent business trips. Aren’t you afraid she will become suspicious?”

Luo Haofeng tentatively asked, his peach blossom eyes probing Mo Xiuchen. Being so astute, how could he not have considered this?

Mo Xiuchen glanced at Qin Mu, the corners of his mouth curving into a half-smile. Qin Mu received Mo Xiuchen’s gaze and felt a chill inside.

“Don’t you know that Ah Mu took Ranran to D Country a few days ago?”

“Xiuchen, you knew all this time?”

That voice belonged to Qin Mu, full of surprise.

His usually stoic face now showed a wealth of expressions. Luo Haofeng was also gaping in surprise; for a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
