Chapter 1789: Chapter 1789: The Letter for Help

”There are indeed unreasonable aspects, but Li Pin’s situation can’t be measured by common sense. First of all, she has depression, and even a small matter can turn into a huge negative emotion. For example, if the Emperor didn’t see her today, she might feel that the Emperor doesn’t care about her. Or if the Imperial Prince just spits up, she might feel the Imperial Prince is beyond saving.”

Bai Ruozhu sighed as she spoke, ”Otherwise, how could a mother so easily give up her own biological child? To place her hopes on the child in someone else’s womb?”

Jiang Yichun snorted coldly, ”The Emperor must be furious; he never expected Li Pin to plot against him.”

”I think that with Li Pin’s personality, even without depression, she couldn’t come up with such a method. And having depression makes her pessimistic every day, she would have no time to think it over,” Bai Ruozhu frowned. ”It seems more like someone instigated, hinted, or guided her to do so.”

”Do you think the suspicion lies on Ling Xue?” Jiang Yichun asked.

”Ding Mama is also suspicious. I am still very objective and realistic,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

The two of them talked as they exited the Palace Gate and got on the horse carriage to head back home.

”Never mind, let’s not guess randomly. The Emperor won’t let me investigate this matter, it should be handed over to the judiciary,” Jiang Yichun said on the horse carriage.

Bai Ruozhu pouted, ”Is it just because I warned the Emperor, and now his pride is at stake?”

Jiang Yichun put his arm around her shoulders, ”Alright, don’t see through everything; let’s just understand between ourselves.”

”Sigh, if I knew Li Pin would do this, I should have risked my life to say more, after all, the Empress Dowager’s greatest worry in life was always the Emperor, Diao Bin, and Li Pin,” Bai Ruozhu sighed again, ”I wonder where Diao Bin and the others are now.”

He gently rubbed the top of her head, ”Don’t overthink, no news is good news, when they can, they will surely appear on their own.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, hoping it would be so.

When the two of them got home, they found that the Wan Family had come to visit. They threw aside their worries and joined the Wan Family for a lively meal and chat. During the conversation, Wan Su mentioned Wan Minglu.

Wan Su quickly glanced at Bai Ruozhu; her son’s heart was full of Ruozhu, how could she, as a mother, not notice? It’s a pity the two aren’t destined to be together.

”That kid Minglu did well, their captain even accepted him as a disciple, saying that he will let him take over in the future,” Wan Su said with some pride.

”Brother Minglu is diligent and hardworking, he will definitely have a great future,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Bai Yihong asked, ”Has Minglu mentioned a bride? Is he waiting to be promoted to propose to a better match?”

Wan Su quickly waved her hand, ”He said he’s too busy with work to take care of a wife, he’ll think about it in two years. But...”

Everyone looked at her, and she continued, ”He rescued a lady when he caught a kidnapper earlier, and that lady has taken quite a liking to him, but this guy is just oblivious!” (Readers who have followed the WeChat Official Account should know what this is about~)

”Second Brother is quite the hero, it’s normal for a lady to take a fancy to him,” Bai Zehao, who married Wan Caiyue, said, having to call Wan Minglu Second Brother.

Everyone laughed and praised Wan Minglu’s competence.

After dinner, the Wan Family lingered for a while before taking their leave, while Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun also got up to take the children back to their Yard.

The family was getting ready to rest when Jing Lei suddenly came in with news: ”Master, there’s an urgent report from the Capital, Princess Yingtong’s party was attacked, and the Emperor urgently summons you to the Palace to discuss.”

Bai Ruozhu sat up abruptly, and Jiang Yichun quickly held her in panic, ”Take it easy, be careful with your belly.”

”How are Yingtong and the others? Were there any casualties?” Bai Ruozhu asked anxiously.

”The message was a rescue request they sent in their moment of danger, likely sent to both us and the Western Regions, but beyond that, we have no information,” Jing Lei said.

Jiang Yichun helped Bai Ruozhu sit down, ”Don’t overthink, I’ll go to the Palace to check, you have a good rest first.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded absentmindedly, how could this be? She thought it would be safer with Yingtong’s group, but now the Merchant Team must also be in trouble. How could she face Bai Zebo’s parents?

And Yingtong, Chu Hai finally got together, could anything have happened?

Jiang Yichun had already quickly dressed in his Official Uniform and softly said to her, ”Be good, go to sleep, don’t worry too much, maybe since they sent out a rescue message, the Western Regions have already saved them, or they’ve already overcome the danger, and a message of their safety will arrive in no time.”

”Hmm, hope that’s the case, you go busy yourself,” Bai Ruozhu obediently lay back on the bed.

After Jiang Yichun left, her mind couldn’t settle down. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep, just wanting to wait for him to come back and report the situation.

At midnight, instead of Jiang Yichun, Jing Lei returned first to deliver news.

”Madam, Master said that it was the Barbarian Tribe’s attack on Princess Yingtong’s party. The Emperor is arranging people to the Western Regions to take a look, it’s likely Master will have to go due to his familiarity with the area,” Jing Lei quietly said upon entering the room.

”Go to the Palace again and tell Achun I’ll go as well, the Barbarians will give me some face, maybe it will make things easier,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Jing Lei stood still, hesitatingly saying, ”Master will surely disagree with you going.”

”I will persuade him myself, hurry and relay the message!” Bai Ruozhu said furiously.

Jing Lei shrank back, and dashed away.

In the end, Bai Ruozhu didn’t even know how she fell asleep, but in her drowsiness, she always felt movements, thinking Jiang Yichun had returned, but opening her eyes it was just wind blowing on the branches or the sound of birds outside. It wasn’t until dawn that Jiang Yichun returned from outside.

”Didn’t sleep well?” he asked, heartaching as he saw the dark circles under her eyes.

”How could I sleep soundly? Who did the Emperor send to rescue?” Bai Ruozhu asked anxiously.

Jiang Yichun frowned, said with a somber expression, ”Tang Feng and I.”

”At least it’s someone familiar, let’s quickly pack up, when do we depart?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”I don’t plan to take you with me,” Jiang Yichun said coldly.

”I’m familiar with the place, and the Barbarians owe me a favor, wouldn’t it be much more convenient if I go?” Bai Ruozhu became anxious.

He pressed his hands on her shoulders, saying, ”You’re carrying twins, no matter how urgent, think of the children first, okay?”

Bai Ruozhu touched her belly, her heart feeling a little guilty; indeed, she needs to be especially cautious.

”I thought it over, you write a letter for me, if the Barbarians remember your kindness, seeing the letter is like seeing you in person. If they don’t recognize this favor, it doesn’t help even if you go personally, you’d just endanger yourself and the children,” Jiang Yichun gently persuaded her.

”Tang Feng and I will lead a team of elite soldiers on horseback, and if you were to go, we would need to slow down, but the rescue is urgent and we can’t afford to delay.”

In the end, Bai Ruozhu nodded, yes, if she goes, it will slow them down, potentially putting the children at risk. She cannot be such an irresponsible mother.
