Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1771: 1771: Don’t cry, I’m back

Over the next two days, every morning Little Dengdeng would wake up early and then bother his mother to quickly get up and find Jiao Ling.

Bai Ruozhu felt quite helpless. There was no need to learn mechanical techniques every day, yet it seemed that Little Dengdeng was almost ready to acknowledge someone else as his mother.

So Lin Ping’er suggested inviting Jiao Ling and Fen Jiu over for dinner at their home. Bai Ruozhu mentioned it to Jiao Ling, and by the third day at noon, they were dining at the Bai Residence.

”Madam Feng, please have more. This dish was concocted by Ruozhu girl and is said to be very nourishing for women.” Lin Ping’er enthusiastically served Jiao Ling food, while on the other side, Fen Jiu was in a good mood, thinking that although he wasn’t very fond of Bai Ruozhu and her family, this Lady Bai had a keen sense.

Jiao Ling felt a bit awkward at being addressed as ”Madam Feng,” but to take care of Fen Jiu’s feelings, she didn’t remind Lin Ping’er.

Bai Ruozhu snickered on the side, thinking that Jiao Ling should have become Madam Feng long ago.

Although Fen Jiu was quite conceited, he was sincerely good to Jiao Ling.

Because Bai Zepei wasn’t home, Bai Yihong and Bai Zehao were entertaining the male guests. Since Fen Jiu was an elder, Bai Yihong had to speak more, but Fen Jiu didn’t seem to like him much and wasn’t very responsive.

Jiao Ling gave Fen Jiu a hard kick under the table and whispered, ”Behave yourself!”

Fen Jiu grunted twice, reluctantly starting to chat with Bai Yihong.

Bai Ruozhu noticed none of these little gestures, but she pretended not to and took the opportunity while serving Dengdeng to occasionally observe Jiao Ling’s reactions.

She noticed that Jiao Ling would find chances to look at her father, but she did it very cautiously, as if afraid of being discovered.

If her heart wasn’t troubled, why be so cautious?

She increasingly felt that Jiao Ling was somehow related to her father. Could she be her father’s cousin?

Then why refuse to acknowledge it? Was it because Jiao Yunyun didn’t want to expose her whereabouts, thus not allowing Jiao Ling to recognize Bai Yihong?

While Bai Ruozhu was lost in thought, someone suddenly rushed into the main hall like a gust of wind. Bai Ruozhu was facing away from the hall door, but her father, sitting across from her, was facing it directly. She saw her father’s face first show surprise, then turn into ecstatic joy.

She quickly turned around to see a man looking extremely thin standing not far from her, covered in dust on his face and clothes, with stubble sprouting from his chin.

He looked as if he’d come from fleeing a disaster, where was the previous appearance of a Painted Immortal?

Bai Ruozhu’s heart ached, tears streaming forth. All her previous grievances and discontent turned into heartache and compassion at that moment.

”Dad!” Little Dengdeng slid off his chair with a swish, shouting as he rushed towards his father. Jiang Yichun bent down and picked up his son in one swift motion.

”Did you miss Dad?” Jiang Yichun’s voice was hoarse, as if his throat was uncomfortable. He spoke while kissing his son, and the stubble on his chin made Little Dengdeng giggle, feeling ticklish.

”Miss, I miss Dad every day!” Little Dengdeng shouted.

Jiang Yichun, holding Dengdeng, walked up to Bai Ruozhu, looking at her tear-streaked face and said, ”Don’t cry, I’m back.”

If he hadn’t spoken, she might have cried even more. ”How did you end up like this? How much did you suffer along the way?”

Lin Ping’er also discreetly wiped the corners of her eyes. Her heart was finally at ease. This son-in-law was absent for so long, making her restless every night, fearing something might have happened to him, leaving her daughter a widow and her grandson fatherless.

Not to mention, their daughter was carrying two more inside her.

”I’m fine. I heard you were attacked; are you alright?” Jiang Yichun said while scanning her from head to toe. Seeing she was unharmed, he finally relaxed.

Bai Zehao came over and patted Jiang Yichun on the shoulder, ”Brother-in-law, it’s good to have you back.”

Jiang Yichun finally came to his senses and greeted his father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law one by one. When Bai Ruozhu began to introduce Jiao Ling and Fen Jiu, he sternly said, ”No need for introductions, I’ve met them before.”

Fen Jiu snorted on the side, the two glared at each other, almost sparking flames with their eyes.

Bai Ruozhu quickly pulled Jiang Yichun. Although Fen Jiu had once injured him, hadn’t that already been resolved?

”Achun, Senior Ji is teaching me and Dengdeng mechanical techniques.” Bai Ruozhu mentioned, implying Jiang Yichun be cordial with them.

Jiang Yichun looked at Jiao Ling with a hint of doubt in his eyes, ”Thank you, Senior.”

He was polite to Jiao Ling, showing it was Fen Jiu he didn’t get along with.

”Yichun, where are Ruolan and the others?” Lin Ping’er glanced behind Jiang Yichun and suddenly asked.

”Mother, I rushed back first on horseback when I heard that Ruozhu was attacked. They have slower escort and should arrive tomorrow or the day after.” Jiang Yichun explained.

Bai Ruozhu averted her gaze. He said ”they” and not ”my mother and Ruolan,” indicating he didn’t want to mention his mother.

”Good, good, I’ve prepared a room for Ruolan.” Lin Ping’er said happily. With Ruolan safe, the whole family could rest assured.

Seeing the situation, Jiao Ling stood up and said, ”Ruozhu’s husband just returned and needs to settle and rest a bit, so we will take our leave and visit again in a few days.”

Bai Ruozhu quickly stood up, ”Teacher, let me see you out.”

”You go take care of your husband, and rest for a couple of days before coming back to learn.” Jiao Ling said with a smile.

Bai Ruozhu smiled gratefully at Jiao Ling and didn’t insist further.

After Jiao Ling and Fen Jiu left, Bai Yihong quickly said, ”Ruozhu, you should accompany Yichun to tidy up. I’ll have the meal sent over. He’s exhausted, let him rest properly, and we can have a nice family chat over dinner.”

”Thank you, Father and Mother.” Jiang Yichun saluted Bai Yihong and Lin Ping’er, holding Dengdeng and pulling Bai Ruozhu back to their yard.

Nanny Zhang wanted to take Little Dengdeng back to the room, but Little Dengdeng refused to go, clinging to Jiang Yichun and saying, ”Dad, can I help scrub your back? I’m very strong!”

Bai Ruozhu, who had been feeling quite upset, was amused by her son’s silly demeanor. Especially seeing Little Dengdeng clench his little fists, was he intending to scrub or fight?

Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but laugh, ”Alright, you can help Dad wash with the bath beans.”

”Yay!” Little Dengdeng cheered.

Jiang Yichun looked at Bai Ruozhu, his eyes full of tenderness, ”It’s my fault for worrying you. Did you miss me?”

Bai Ruozhu sniffled, ”Not at all. If you didn’t come back, I’d have almost forgotten what you looked like, miss my foot!”

Jiang Yichun raised his hand to pinch her nose, ”You say one thing but mean another.”

He lowered his head to her belly, cautiously reaching out a rough palm to gently touch it, ”How are our children? Have they been troubling you?”

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”It’s children, they’ve been very well-behaved, unlike you always making me worry.”
