Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1782: Chapter 1782: Inquiry

As the two arrived at the door of Gai Yalai’s room, Nanny rushed up excitedly and said, ”Young Master, please help Madam. You must save her. She has suffered her whole life and has yet to enjoy a few days of happiness.”

Jiang Yichun walked into the room and saw Gai Yalai lying pale on the bed. Due to the gauze cap falling off, her face was exposed, showing a dense rash. There was a strangulation mark on her neck, under which many rashes were torn, indicating severe strangulation.

Bai Ruozhu frowned, pondering whether it was truly a suicide attempt?

Jiang Yichun pulled Bai Ruozhu closer and proceeded to examine Gai Yalai, remembering Bai Ruozhu’s words that her illness was harmful to her and the child she carried.

Jiang Yichun took Gai Yalai’s pulse and pressed a few acupoints on her body, soon hearing Gai Yalai murmur twice and then wake up.

Upon opening her eyes, she was full of terror and exclaimed, ”Nanny, Nanny, why did you just come back!”

Upon finishing, she began to sob, Nanny embraced her as if holding her own daughter, gently comforting her. Bai Ruozhu signaled to Jiang Yichun and exited the room.

Jiang Yichun followed out as well. Bai Ruozhu pointed to the room and said, ”Go keep her company and comfort her. Seeing me might not please her; better if I avoid for now.”

”Alright.” Jiang Yichun felt a bit bitter, ”I’ll return to accompany you later.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled, indicating she was indifferent, then returned to the room and instructed Min Ju to report to the Main Courtyard that Gai Yalai was fine.

Soon after, Nanny Zhang returned with Dengdeng and Min Ju.

”Mom, why did Grandma want to die? Isn’t she afraid of pain?” Little Dengdeng heard the adults talk and asked, bewildered.

”Everyone fears pain; she was merely momentarily confused, she’ll be alright.” Bai Ruozhu didn’t know how to explain to her son, opting to say this.

Little Dengdeng nodded, ”That’s good. If she dies, Dad will be saddened.”

Bai Ruozhu patted his little head, still, it was his father she cared for.

She played with Little Dengdeng for a while, and then had Nanny Zhang take him down to rest, before calling Jianqi over.

”Arrange a few reliable people to keep an eye on Ruolan and see if there’s anything unusual or if anyone secretly contacts her.” Bai Ruozhu instructed Jianqi.

”Mistress suspects Lady Ruolan is abnormal?” Jianqi asked.

”Just a bit dubious, have them be cautious, and don’t let her become aware.” Bai Ruozhu added.

Jianqi’s expression turned stern. Mistress saying this indicated Bai Ruolan was no longer considered a fool in Mistress’s mind, as a fool wouldn’t be that perceptive.

”Alright.” Jianqi quickly made arrangements, and soon two dark guards were discreetly keeping tabs on Bai Ruolan.

Bai Ruozhu had Min Xiang attend her rinse and was preparing to lie down, when the door was pushed open and Jiang Yichun entered.

”Everything is settled.” Jiang Yichun looked fatigued, prompting Bai Ruozhu to sympathetically ask Min Xiang to get water for Jiang Yichun to wash up.

Min Xiang brought water and moistened the towel; Jiang Yichun sternly said, ”Leave it and go out.”

Min Xiang glanced at Bai Ruozhu, and seeing Bai Ruozhu nod, she then lowered her head and backed out.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly felt he was overly nervous and jokingly asked, ”Haven’t you ever had a maid serve you? What about when you were in the Jiang Family?”

”The Jiang Family was so poor, Elder Jiang Ge was also a paragon of frugality, I was always attended by Nanny or my father during childhood.” Jiang Yichun said, his expression dimmed a bit.

Bai Ruozhu hastily switched the topic, ”Then what about at the Ministry of Rites? Wasn’t there Wu Wanqing or Ling around? You weren’t without female subordinates, were you?”

Jiang Yichun gave a bitter smile, ”Are you bringing up old issues? The Ministry of Rites consisted entirely of men, women were subordinates, not maids, I wasn’t accustomed to have them serve.”

He said while having cleaned his face and hands, tossed the towel aside, removed his shoes, and lay down on the bed.

Speaking of Ling, Bai Ruozhu recalled the matter with Consort Le, she then pulled Jiang Yichun to discuss, including how she was almost run into by Little Eunuch and later had Lyu pay more attention to Ling.

Jiang Yichun listened, furrowing his brow, ”I know Lyu well; he’s utterly loyal to the Emperor, not to mention Ling Xue wasn’t cultivated by him; even if she were his disciple, he wouldn’t show favoritism, he’ll investigate thoroughly.”

”I fear his limited energy, and regarding intrigues among women, men are just not sensitive enough.” Bai Ruozhu felt the insinuating provocations by Ling might not be taken seriously by men like Lyu, but Consort Le, already suffering from depression, might take it to heart.

Jiang Yichun thought for a moment and said, ”When I head to the Guest Palace, I’ll find a chance to see her and then remind the Emperor.”

Bai Ruozhu snorted coldly and turned away, choosing not to speak.

”What? Upset that I’m going to see her?” Jiang Yichun suddenly laughed, finding his little daughter’s jealousy rather amusing.

Bai Ruozhu pushed away his hand gently placed on her waist, saying, ”You’re going for business, why should I be angry? It’s just you’re too fond of attracting romantic affairs, I’m exhausted!”

Jiang Yichun, hearing it, felt vexed, ”But didn’t I ignore all of them?”

”At that time, who sent everyone to my face again?” Bai Ruozhu glaringly retorted.

”Alright, alright, I admit my mistake, isn’t that enough?” Jiang Yichun immediately surrendered raising his hands.

Soon, it was the next day, Jiang Yichun went to the Guest Palace for court, while Bai Ruozhu, having had breakfast, headed to the residence rented by Jiang Family Members.

She conversed with Jiang Chenshi, Jiang Zhihe, and others for a while, and inquired about Yu Chenghua, to which Jiang Zhihe replied he would return at noon.

”Then I’ll wait until noon, just happened there’s something to ask him.” Bai Ruozhu smilingly said.

Jiang Zhiyi stole glances at Bai Ruozhu; she hadn’t interacted much with Bai Ruozhu before. Bai Ruozhu noticed her attention, smiling warmly back, causing Jiang Zhiyi to blush a little.

Bai Ruozhu had heard about the eldest daughter’s circumstances in the Jiang Family, deeply admired her decision to dissolve the marriage since not all women in Ancient Times could be as decisive as Jiang Zhiyi.

When noon came, Yu Chenghua indeed returned, Bai Ruozhu and Yu Chenghua’s couple went to their room to talk.

”Chenghua, on the way here, did my cousin seem very reliant on Achun, like pulling his sleeve?” Bai Ruozhu asked straightforwardly.

Yu Chenghua, puzzled by her intention, nervously responded, ”She must have been frightened.”

Bai Ruozhu suddenly realized she might have asked too directly, appearing as a jealous wife, almost scaring Yu Chenghua witless.

Jiang Zhihe, beside her, tugged at Yu Chenghua’s arm, saying, ”Ruozhu surely has important matters, speak properly.”

”Only Zhihe understands me, like this: after my cousin returned home, there were many new bruises, seemingly pinched by someone, and when she dismounted the horse carriage, her hand was bound by rope, reportedly done by Mrs. Gu, causing my parents to be very angry.” Bai Ruozhu briefly narrated.
