Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1779: Chapter 1779: Promised to Stay Together for Life

Bai Ruozhu didn’t dare to continue thinking about it. Perhaps she was overthinking. Even if Bai Ruolan turned out fine, how could a rural girl who had never left the Village have the ability to wander outside without any harm?

Or perhaps she didn’t really understand Bai Ruolan at all?

Thinking about the memories of her past life, including the interactions with Bai Ruolan after her transmigration, she realized there were no pleasant memories. Due to the conflicts between the two families, she and Bai Ruolan could never be as close as typical cousins. It wasn’t until Bai Ruolan attempted suicide by hanging and was saved, losing her mental acuity due to prolonged suffocation, that Bai Ruozhu’s family took her in out of pity.

”Don’t think too much about it. Just have someone keep a watch.” A pair of slightly cool large hands rested on her forehead, gently smoothing the frown between her brows.

Bai Ruozhu looked up into his bright black eyes, and her heart calmed down again.

”Achun, let’s live our lives well, alright? Let’s not doubt each other. We promised to stay together for life and walk this journey together,” she said earnestly, looking up at him.

He smiled, holding her hand, and said, ”Alright, we’ll be well. We must trust one another and grow old together.”

Bai Ruozhu finally smiled, ”Let’s go, it’s almost time for dinner, we don’t want to worry father and mother.”

Hand in hand, the two of them walked towards the Main house. After a while, Jiang Yichun suddenly said, ”I thought about it carefully, and you’re right. She doesn’t truly like Dengdeng; it’s all those dark thoughts from within the mansion.”

Bai Ruozhu knew that by ”she,” he meant Gai Yalai, and she felt happy and said, ”That’s called ’court intrigue’. People in large houses love to fight among themselves. She probably got used to it at the Xue Family.”

Jiang Yichun sighed, ”It was my fault that you and Dengdeng were wronged. That won’t happen again.”

”Mm,” Bai Ruozhu responded happily, secretly observing him with the corner of her eye, noticing that his face was a bit stiff, though his ears were red.

Ha, for someone as proud as him to admit his mistakes must be a bit embarrassing, right?

She mischievously chuckled to herself. After all, he made her feel bad earlier, and she hadn’t punished him, which was already quite lenient, wasn’t it?

”However, given her current situation, I can’t do anything more about her. I hope you can understand my difficulties,” Jiang Yichun added, his voice growing softer, lacking the confidence he typically had when speaking.

”I understand you, and I’m not asking you to settle scores with her; it’s enough that you’re aware,” Bai Ruozhu thought of Gai Yalai’s condition and realized she couldn’t hold a grudge against someone so critically ill.

Additionally, she had just remembered the bruises on Bai Ruolan’s body; some were new. Based on the timeline, they appeared after being with Gai Yalai, but something seemed off when she thought about it.

Right!

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes lit up. How could she forget that Gai Yalai’s arms were covered with red rashes and sores? Would someone who cared so much about her appearance really approach Bai Ruolan in such a condition and pinch her?

Think about it, if you wanted to pinch someone and leave blue and purple marks, you’d have to apply some force, right? Given Gai Yalai’s current situation, if she exerted too much force, the red rashes on her arms would certainly tear and worsen. Wouldn’t she mind the pain?

Of course, Gai Yalai could have given the order to her nanny, but from Bai Ruozhu’s understanding of that nanny, she probably wouldn’t want to do it.

Moreover, that nanny was also injured, and given her age, her wounds wouldn’t heal as fast as Yu Chenghua’s.

”Later, ask your mother about Ruolan’s situation and observe her and the nanny’s reactions. I suspect those bruises weren’t pinched by her, nor do I think it was the nanny. We need to confirm that,” Bai Ruozhu quickly said.

Jiang Yichun was a bit surprised but quickly understood her point, nodding, ”Alright, I’ll ask after dinner.”

With everything laid out between them, there were no more misunderstandings, and they returned to their sweet and affectionate state. Jiang Yichun held her hand without letting go and walked with her to the Main Courtyard.

When they were about to enter the Main Hall, Bai Ruozhu struggled against it, and only then did he reluctantly let go of her hand. Their playful antics were witnessed by quite a few people inside the room, lightening the somewhat heavy atmosphere.

Bai Ruozhu noticed the room was very quiet, guessing that the family had seen them and feeling a bit embarrassed as she looked inside the room. It was then she realized why the atmosphere felt different from usual.

Gai Yalai, wrapped like an Arab woman, stood in the hall, with her nanny beside her looking embarrassed and uneasy. The rest of the Bai Family’s expressions were also not pleasant, and it seemed no one was interacting with her much.

Bai Ruozhu turned to glance at Jiang Yichun, and sure enough, Jiang Yihong’s face was already dark. Even though he had arranged a quiet place for Gai Yalai to live and had food sent to her, eliminating the need for her to come and go, she still came to the Bai Family’s Main Courtyard, especially at dinner time, clearly intending to stay for a meal.

The fact that she had a peculiar illness made it inconvenient. Even if she weren’t ill, her current identity was already awkward.

Gai Yalai, upon seeing Jiang Yichun, struggled to stand up, staggering a bit.

”Brother Chun, I felt it’s not appropriate to suddenly disturb the Bai Family, so I brought some gifts to visit the madam,” Gai Yalai explained, her voice sounding somewhat weak.

Lin Ping’er smiled and said, ”You’re too kind. You’re still unwell, and you shouldn’t have come in person. If we weren’t afraid of disturbing your rest, we should have been the ones to come and see you.”

Bai Ruozhu secretly curled her lips. Who’s her in-law? Isn’t she supposed to be Madam Xue? How could she be the Bai Family’s in-law? Saying it so pleasantly, couldn’t she have sent the gifts with her servants instead? Was this really to express gratitude or deliberately create trouble for others?

She looked around the hall, walked over to her elder sister-in-law, and signaled to Wan Caiyue to temporarily take Chenxi away.

Wan Caiyue knew about Gai Yalai’s strange illness. Seeing Bai Ruozhu’s signal, she understood it was bad for the child and got up. ”Ruozhu, why don’t you sit for a bit? I’ll go check why the kitchen hasn’t brought out the dishes yet, as it’s already late.”

Saying this, she carried Chenxi and left. As she reached the door, Nanny Zhang brought Little Dengdeng over for a meal. Unaware of the situation in the room, Little Dengdeng took Chenxi’s hand and said, ”Sister, let’s go play inside.”

Wan Caiyue quickly signaled to Nanny Zhang, saying, ”The adults are talking inside, you two shouldn’t disturb them.”

Nanny Zhang craned her neck to peek inside, understood the situation, and quickly took Little Dengdeng, saying, ”Let’s see where Miss Chenxi wants to go, and go along with her, shall we?”

”We’re going to the Kitchen to check on the food. Dengdeng, do you want to help Auntie?” Wan Caiyue said to Dengdeng with a smile.

”Sure, I’ll go with Auntie and Sister!” Little Dengdeng cheerfully replied.

Nanny Zhang secretly breathed a sigh of relief, when suddenly from inside the hall, Gai Yalai took a few steps toward the door and said, ”Is it Dengdeng? My dear grandson, come let granny hold you!”
