Chapter 1446: Chapter 1447: Leave It to Me_1

Bai Ruozhu, upon seeing the Empress Dowager’s reaction, knew she did not want Yuwei to know of Diao Bin’s condition. Perhaps it was not the Emperor who had people surround Cining Palace; she wanted Princess Yuwei to leave first.

”Aunt Empress Dowager, you really scared me just now,” Princess Yuwei said while patting her chest, looking truly shaken.

It was then that Bai Ruozhu had the opportunity to take a good look at her. This princess was probably the highest in status among those who wished to marry her elder brother, and she was also the Virtuous King’s youngest daughter.

Tang Yuwei must have resembled her mother and not taken after the square-faced Virtuous King. Instead, she had a beautiful oval face, and with her youthful skin being so delicate, plus her large eyes so expressive, she looked vivacious and charming, easily endearing herself to others.

Seeing Bai Ruozhu sizing her up, Tang Yuwei couldn’t help but lower her head, her cheeks flushing with a touch of red.

The Empress Dowager had no mood to observe Tang Yuwei’s reaction at this time. She urgently signaled Bai Ruozhu with her eyes, to which Bai Ruozhu nodded slightly and said, ”Empress Dowager, I’ll go and check Imperial Concubine Le’s pulse for peace of mind and then take my leave.”

”I was just about to visit sister Wen too,” Tang Yuwei said with flushed cheeks.

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched slightly. Under normal circumstances, she was quite willing to interact more with Princess Yuwei, to observe her character and temperament, but today she really was pressed for time and could not afford to let Princess Yuwei discover the situation with Diao Bin.

The Empress Dowager took Yuwei’s hand and said, ”You stay and chat with me first. You’ve been following the Virtuous King to the tomb for these past years; I don’t know how you’ve been. I still want to hear all about it.”

Hearing this, Yuwei could not leave and resettled herself beside the bed. Seeing this, Bai Ruozhu saluted the Empress Dowager and then quickly left.

Hao Mu followed her out and led Bai Ruozhu to Princess Diao Bin’s quarters. Just as she reached the doorway, she saw Ning Yu already there, his face full of worry, peeking around.

”Ning Yu, can we still carry out the original plan to cast the spell?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”Yes, and we cannot delay any longer. I’ve already ordered people to prepare the items. You go and get a drop of blood from Fen Wan,” Ning Yu said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, feeling somewhat nervous. This was her first time casting a spell, and she had learned it in a very short time; it was impossible for her to say she wasn’t nervous.

After looking in on Diao Bin, she then went to where Fen Wan stayed. Hao Feng, seeing her arrive, said with an unfriendly expression, ”Does your Emperor suspect me?”

Bai Ruozhu hurriedly explained, ”No, if he really suspected you, he would have captured and interrogated you by now. It’s just that Cining Palace has been breached more than once, and the Emperor is truly angered this time.”

”I am a foreigner, and it’s not easy for you to trust me, but I have no reason to harm that child. If she dies, your Emperor won’t spare Fen Wan either,” Hao Feng said with a stern face.

”I believe you,” Bai Ruozhu said earnestly, looking at her.

Hao Feng was moved, seeing the sincerity in Bai Ruozhu’s eyes, and said, ”Thank you.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”I must hurry and cast the spell now.” Saying this, she took Fen Wan’s hand and carefully collected a drop of blood on a porcelain piece.

She nodded at Hao Feng and then took her leave. Hao Feng, watching her retreating figure, murmured enviously to herself, ”Fen Wan, her talent surpasses yours.”

Bai Ruozhu hurried to Diao Bin’s side, nodded to Ning Yu, and instructed Hao Mu to have his subordinates guard the surroundings securely, allowing no one to disturb them.

Then, the casting of the spell began. She carefully dripped Fen Wan’s drop of blood onto Diao Bin’s forehead and then proceeded with the process she had practiced before.

It was impossible for her not to be nervous, but fortunately, she had always been steady in character. As she calmed her mind, the content she had practiced flowed naturally like water.

Ning Yu watched anxiously from the side, terrified that anything might go wrong.

Just as the ritual was halfway done, a clamor suddenly arose from inside the Cining Palace, accompanied by the cries and shouts of women, which instantly reached Bai Ruozhu’s ears.

Bai Ruozhu’s hands shook subconsciously, and the hand seal she had formed almost loosened, nearly causing the essence to break off!

Ning Yu was so scared he almost jumped up. If the ritual failed, both Princess Diao Bin and Bai Ruozhu would suffer backlash. In the worst-case scenario, Bai Ruozhu could be seriously injured and spit blood, while Princess Diao Bin could breathe her last.

Fortuneately, Bai Ruozhu had a steady mind. By biting the tip of her tongue fiercely, she calmed down. Soon, the hand seals were secure again and the essence steadied.

The commotion continued outside, but it no longer affected her.

Ning Yu let out a huge sigh of relief, nearly shedding tears. If someone else had conducted the ritual today, they would likely have been disturbed, even he couldn’t guarantee to remain completely focused.

Eventually, Bai Ruozhu completed all the steps of the ritual. The drop of blood on Princess Diao Bin’s forehead also disappeared, and her complexion improved, her cheeks gaining color.

Ning Yu leaned in to check on Princess Diao Bin and said with a smile, ”Her breathing has stabilized. Thank you.”

Bai Ruozhu wiped the fine sweat from her forehead. ”What’s there to thank? She is also my friend.”

At that moment, the cries and shouts still echoed outside. Bai Ruozhu frowned and said, ”You stay here and monitor the princess’s condition. I’ll go out and take a look.”

”Alright, be careful,” Ning Yu said; thinking of how she had acted against Imperial Concubine Liu and the others, he couldn’t help worrying.

Bai Ruozhu gave him a stern look, ”Elder brother, you need to recover quickly and strengthen yourself. Look at the state our Astrology Tower is in. Who would dare to provoke you if our master was in good health? We can’t let the presence of our Astrology Tower weaken now.”

Ning Yu hung his head in shame, ”I will recover as soon as possible.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded and strode out. She already had an idea of what the commotion was about and if these people were still seeking death, she would certainly fulfill their wish!

”How dare you! Do you even regard me at all? Shut up, all of you! Is this a place for you to make noise?” Empress Dowager, supported by Yuwei, chastised the group led by Imperial Concubine Liu.

She knew that Bai Ruozhu must not be disturbed while performing the ritual for Princess Diao Bin. As Liu Xiyu and the others had been making a racket for so long, she worried it might have affected Bai Ruozhu. Thus, ignoring the advice of those around her, she struggled to go out.

From afar, Bai Ruozhu saw this and quickened her pace. ”Empress Dowager has just awakened. Please calm yourself, I’ll handle this situation,” she said.

Seeing Bai Ruozhu’s composed expression, Empress Dowager was relieved, knowing the ritual must have been successful.

She also relaxed completely, her body going soft and nearly collapsing again, saved only by Yuwei’s timely support.

”What do you think you are? What right do you have to speak to us?” Liu Xiyu gnashed her teeth and snarled; a few more red spots appearing on her face, which, coupled with her ferocious expression, made her look even more hideous.
