Chapter 1426: Chapter 1427: The Mastermind Back Then_1

As soon as the door opened, she saw a figure kneeling rigidly, which shivered at the sound of her pushing the door, then cautiously turned his head back.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart softened, and she sighed, ”Alright, get up.”

He showed a look of joy, ”Have you forgiven me?”

Bai Ruozhu snorted coldly, ”You just heard it yourself, that He Lian wants you to take responsibility for his daughter’s reputation. If it hadn’t been for me fobbing him off with Muyu, would you really want to take a concubine?”

”How could that be!” Jiang Yichun’s face darkened, ”Does He Lian have a death wish, to dare to scheme against me?”

Bai Ruozhu noticed that he was still kneeling and said, ”Have you developed a habit for kneeling now?”

He made a bitter face, ”If you don’t forgive me, I don’t want to get up.”

Look at that, he’s even starting to make threats.

”Don’t play games with me. If it really comes to a head with He Lian, it wouldn’t be impossible for him to sue you, considering you almost killed his daughter,” Bai Ruozhu said and glared at him fiercely, ”The emperor must be reasonable, too. Who would be able to help you then?”

”Hmph, it’s just a matter of a few dozen lashes, thinking I would take a concubine over my dead body!” said Jiang Yichun with great determination, which actually made Bai Ruozhu feel much better.

”Alright, stand up. Get some rest early so that after dealing with the He Family’s matter tomorrow, we can set off sooner,” Bai Ruozhu said, turning to leave.

At this, Jiang Yichun became anxious, jumping up in a flash and going over to grab her arm, ”My lady, haven’t you forgiven me? Why still refuse to return to our room?”

”I’m going to treat Fen Wan. Think everything over and then we’ll talk,” Bai Ruozhu said brusquely.

Jiang Yichun wanted to cling to her, but after receiving a fierce glare from her, he deflated. He always felt that he owed her and had no face to be tough with her.

Bai Ruozhu left the room and went to administer acupuncture to Fen Wan to control the poison. Hao Feng was secretly sizing her up the whole time until she finished, when he couldn’t help but ask, ”Senior Hao Feng, is there something you want to say?”

Caught, Hao Feng gave an embarrassed chuckle, ”I was afraid you were in a bad mood.”

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”It’s okay, those who deserved to be punished have been, and those who were doomed to misfortune have had it. My mood is already much improved.”

Hao Feng also smiled, ”You surely are a remarkable woman. Fen Wan is just as daring in love and hate as you, and so she ended up detesting Tang Zhi.”

Tang Zhi was the name of the Former Emperor of Danliang Country. He and Fen Wan were manipulated into having an affair, and at first, Fen Wan probably didn’t hate him, but later she was poisoned and misled, leading her to use the last of her life to place a curse.

”Senior, tell me in detail about the past events. Why did Fen Wan think that the Empress Dowager had someone poison her? It’d be best if you could be as thorough as possible,” Bai Ruozhu suddenly thought of this.

Hao Feng sighed and began to speak meticulously.

”Back then, I just happened to be out on a mission when I heard the news that something had happened to Fen Wan’s family. I immediately rushed back, but by that time, she had already been stricken with the Reincarnation Poison, and in a fit of rage, she had cursed Tang Zhi and the Ding Family. Many of the events I did not experience firsthand; they were what Fen Wan told me before she lost consciousness. She said that her residence was attacked in the middle of the night. Because the assailant was killing and setting fires so quickly, she was injured and poisoned before she could even make out the attacker’s identity. Tang Gui protected her and sent her two children out, but in the end, the mansion burned to ashes with him. Later, Fen Wan settled the children and returned to the Holy Hall, dispirited, hoping to seek the help of the great elders to investigate the murderer. Unexpectedly, she overheard a conversation between an envoy from Danliang Country and the great elder.”

Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes; the great elder was dead, indeed absent of evidence.

Hao Feng continued, ”The envoy threatened the great elder, demanding that he hand over Fen Wan and the little princess, claiming it was the will of the Empress Dowager of Danliang Country. If the great elder did not comply, was he not afraid of bringing disaster upon himself? The great elder was not particularly righteous or bold. He had already been dissatisfied with the Holy Woman Fen Wan and wanted a new Holy Woman, so he would order a search for Fen Wan’s whereabouts. Once found, they would hand her over to the Danliang envoy. Fen Wan was both shocked and furious, and she could only flee the Holy Hall. Later, she used all her cultivation base to curse Tang Gui and the Ding Family.”

Bai Ruozhu fell silent for a long time. She methodically sorted through the clues before asking, ”Was the great elder dissatisfied with Fen Wan because she repeatedly opposed his enslavement of the people and his fraudulent actions?”

”Yes, Fen Wan sincerely wanted to do things for the people, not deceive them. She later withdrew from many of the great elder’s plans,” Hao Feng sighed. ”She had thought about exposing the great elder, but with him controlling the Holy Hall, what could she, a lone woman, do?”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”Also, it seems the great elder once cursed the Barbarian Clan’s princess, Sangshu, and Fen Wan found out about it. They even had a dispute over it, and he slapped Fen Wan. I think this incident might also be related, right?”

Hao Feng’s expression changed dramatically, ”Cursed Sangshu? Sangshu was once famed as the most talented Beast Master of the Barbarian Clan and the most hopeful to ascend to the throne. The Barbarian Clan reveres the strong; it is not without precedent for a woman to become empress.”

”Probably this matter was not something the great elder could do alone. Therefore, he feared it being exposed even more. At least then he could not have withstood the retaliation of the Barbarian Clan, so he would have wanted to control Fen Wan or silence her,” Bai Ruozhu’s face fell solemn. ”If that’s the case, when Fen Wan’s family was struck by disaster, did he really not play a part? Without his help, the people of Danliang couldn’t have carried out all these things so smoothly, right? Moreover, with such fierce combat, the people of the Holy Hall couldn’t have been unaware and neglected to come to the rescue, could they?”

”Since the great elder and the other party may have cooperated, then the scene Fen Wan overheard later could likely have been staged for her, right? Otherwise, why would it just happen that she returned to the Holy Hall and overheard that conversation? And with so many Holy Guards in the Holy Hall, they just let her eavesdrop outside, and then she managed to flee without even entering the Hall?” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Fen Wan thought the great elder wanted to get rid of her but never considered that her family’s disaster involved his meddling. If that’s true, then the content she heard doesn’t make sense,” Hao Feng’s face also grew grim. Considering all the events put together, the great elder’s character made it likely he would have collaborated with others to get rid of Fen Wan. Having acted, why then the notion of him being threatened to hand her over?

Bai Ruozhu had also sorted it out, but who exactly from Danliang Country wanted to kill Fen Wan and the little princess and then pin it on the Empress Dowager?

Her eyes suddenly lit up, ”I’ve got it!”

Hao Feng, deep in thought, jumped at her exclamation and asked anxiously, ”Got what?”

”If it were the Former Emperor’s political enemies who desired his throne, they could have claimed it was the Former Emperor’s command, not wanting to leave a scandal behind. But why mention the Empress Dowager?” Bai Ruozhu smiled, her eyes gleaming with confidence, ”So, the mastermind can only be an enemy of the Empress Dowager.”

I’m sorry everyone, I’ve taken too long today. Probably because I’ve been continually writing in a state of high tension, after a major plot unfolds, I’m inexplicably stuck, sitting in front of the computer for three hours to write just one Chapter. Mouka will adjust as quickly as possible, another Chapter is coming later~
