Chapter 1403: Chapter 1405: A Change in the Holy Hall_1

The great elder, weakly grasping his confidant’s arm, said, ”It’s, it’s someone who tampered... with it, I... have been backlashed, you must... help me take revenge...”

At this moment, the other people from the Holy Hall rushed over upon hearing the commotion, including Saintess Honglian and the second elder, who had previously been in the Council Hall.

Xuan Jizi gave Lin Lian a look, and the two took advantage of the chaos to escape toward the outside of the Holy Hall. They quickly fled the Holy Hall and also had the dark guard deliver a message to Bai Ruozhu.

Meanwhile, several elders burst into the great elder’s room, and the second elder immediately realized he was using Evil Technique. He exclaimed loudly, ”Serves you right, serves you right, Yehuang, as the great elder of the Holy Hall, you actually used an Evil Technique. You deserve to be backlashed and to meet your retribution!”

Honglian opened her mouth, wanting to defend the great elder, but all the evidence was so clear, there was no use in trying to argue.

She had had a bad feeling before and wanted to stop others from seeing the great elder, but now the Holy Hall was dominated by the second elder, could she stop them?

The great elder, enraged by the second elder’s words, passed out due to lack of breath, and the second elder snorted coldly, instructing, ”The great elder has used an Evil Technique, immediately jail him in the prison to await the Holy Hall’s judgment.”

This time no one dared to speak up for the great elder again, his use of Evil Technique seemed irrefutable, even the eighth elder, who often spoke up for him, was bedridden and not present.

The second elder stole a glance at Honglian, seeing that she remained silent, he thought to himself that she really could endure.

That very night, Xuan Jizi and Lin Lian entered the royal palace and went to see Bai Ruozhu at Qingyou Hall, both were extremely pleased to have accomplished their mission.

Bai Ruozhu, after hearing about the incident from Xuan Jizi, also broke out in a cold sweat. She hurriedly bowed to Xuan Jizi, ”If the elder hadn’t helped, Ruozhu might have faced great danger this time.”

”The lucky are blessed by their own virtue, and what we did was merely a helping hand,” Xuan Jizi said with a smile.

Jiang Yichun also followed by paying his respects to the two, saying, ”I also thank you both, the situation was terribly perilous, and it really was hard work for the two elders.”

Xuan Jizi quickly supported him, ”To be honest, we should thank Ruozhu for curing Lin Lian’s poison and for helping us resolve our troubles, otherwise, we wouldn’t be standing here together.”

Lin Lian, slightly embarrassed, gave him a glance and said, ”Stop thanking each other, let’s focus on the matter at hand.”

She then shared her observations from following Honglian, previously she was not certain, but now she was almost sure that Honglian practiced Evil Technique. If the great elder had suffered backlash from using Evil Technique, and Honglian received the great elder’s true teachings, how could she not know Evil Technique?

Xuan Jizi also shared his findings, including the great elder mentioning the cycle of poison, as well as his final words.

”Him?” Bai Ruozhu frowned, she too felt it couldn’t refer to Fen Wan and that it must point to the person who had poisoned Fen Wan originally. But who could this ”he” be? It was even unclear whether it was a man or a woman.

”Perhaps the great elder knows something else since he is now locked in the Sky Prison of the Holy Hall. Why don’t we sneak into the Holy Hall tonight and find out the truth?” Bai Ruozhu said, rubbing her hands together, eager to try, she had been stifled pretending to be injured these past few days.

Jiang Yichun glared at her fiercely and said, ”There’s no need, I’ll go to the second elder to clarify this matter, as the former Saintess Fen Wan once shared his ideals, he will surely be willing to help.”

Bai Ruozhu shrank her neck and thought, ”Well, she couldn’t even do something dangerous and exciting. Moreover, she wanted to see just how miserable the great elder’s fate was.

But before Jiang Yichun could pass the message from the monarch to the second elder, news came from the second elder that the great elder had died...

Bai Ruozhu was extremely annoyed and complained to Jiang Yichun, ”It’s all because you wouldn’t let me go. Otherwise, I could have kept him breathing, and who knows what I might have gotten out of him.”

Jiang Yichun also felt it was a great pity, but when compared to the safety of his loved one, he cared more about the latter.

Soon, the news that the great elder, Yehuang, had died from backlash while using evil techniques spread throughout Gaochang City. The people cheered, saying he got what he deserved, and even the aristocrats sighed. The manipulator who had occupied the Holy Hall for over a decade had fallen, dying such a miserable death.

With the death of the great elder, Saintess Honglian was questioned by the council of elders, and some accused her of knowing about the great elder’s use of evil techniques. After all, prior to his death, the great elder had met with Honglian, and afterwards, she had mystifyingly sought out the council of elders, which suggested that she intended to cover for the great elder.

As a result, the second elder proposed to abolish the position of Saintess Honglian and select a pure-hearted girl close to the gods from among the young maidens. On the other hand, the second elder secretly released evidence that Saintess Honglian was the illicit child of the great elder and Diao Mo. Quickly, the once exalted Saintess Honglian was spat upon and seen as someone people wished they could trample underfoot.

Honglian, having never faced such a blow in her life, was on the verge of a mental breakdown. Her father said that death rendered all efforts futile. She thought that Lin Zhu would be the one to die, but why did it turn out to be her father?

And her mother was burned alive. Now, she was left all alone, and she couldn’t stand it—she was full of hatred!

That night, as the second elder and others were discussing how to take over the affairs of the former great elder, Yehuang, a series of bell sounds came from the back hall. The bells rang without a breeze, tinkling eerily.

The second elder’s face paled, ”Someone is using evil techniques again!”

Because of what happened with Yehuang, the Holy Hall had activated its prohibitions earlier. If someone used evil techniques, the holy bells would ring as an alarm.

”Could it be that girl Honglian?” asked the sixth elder.

”Let’s go and find out,” the second elder said with a frown. He had already sent people to keep an eye on Honglian. If she made such a move, why had no one reported back?

When the council of elders rushed to the back hall with the Divine Guardians, the loudest bell sound was indeed coming from Honglian’s room. Two Divine Guardians charged forward and kicked open the room door.

With a whoosh, the two Divine Guardians were flung out, each spitting out a mouthful of blood.

In the Holy Hall, the general guards were known as Holy Guards, while selected elites formed the Divine Guardian squad, directly protecting the elders and VIPs. The Martial Arts abilities of the Divine Guardians were much better than those of the Holy Guards, but the two Divine Guardians were sent flying in their first encounter. Since when had Honglian become so powerful?

At that moment, Honglian’s crazed laughter came from the room, ”Since you all didn’t leave me a way out, don’t blame me for wreaking slaughter!”

Three figures charged out. The second elder took a careful look, and two of them were people he had assigned to watch over Honglian. How did they become senseless, completely obeying Honglian’s commands now?

What shocked everyone the most was the third figure. He stood tall and emitted an imposing aura. But those eyes, which once held justice, were now bloodthirsty red, seemingly eager to bite everyone present to death.
