Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1421: Chapter 1423: Just Love Eating Madam’s_1

While speaking, Xie Er brought the medicine box over, ”Master, I’ve sorted out the medicine box for you. What time are you making your rounds this afternoon?”

He only noticed Bai Ruozhu after he had finished speaking, and his face immediately lit up with excitement, ”Master, you’ve returned!”

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched. She originally didn’t want to be called master by Sun Jia, who was old enough to be her father, and now here was a young man several years older than her own brother, calling her master. She almost felt like she was half in the grave already.

Sun Jia gave Xie Er a glance, ”What nonsense are you spouting? The alliance leader hasn’t taken me on as a disciple yet.”

Bai Ruozhu coughed twice to cover her embarrassment and said to Sun Jia, ”So the disciple you’ve taken on is Xie Er, not bad at all. This lad is quite enthusiastic. He’s helped me quite a bit before. You should take good care of him, Sun Jia.”

Xie Er’s eyes sparkled at hearing this. With the alliance leader, oh no, his master’s endorsement, his teacher would surely teach him even more diligently.

”Understood, I will definitely do so,” Sun Jia said with utmost respect.

”Alliance Leader, I also want to join the Medical Alliance. Can you take me on now?” Xie Er asked eagerly.

Bai Ruozhu laughed and said, ”Of course, you can. But you’ll have to learn well from your master, because if you don’t improve beyond your beginner’s level, you’ll have trouble keeping up with any public learning and exchanges in the future, and that would be a shame, wouldn’t it?”

”I will study hard,” Xie Er declared loudly.

Bai Ruozhu and Sun Jia both laughed. Xie Er had an active, sunny disposition and the energy of a young man, but he still lacked a bit of steadiness. With time and attention, that would improve.

After the plague, how are the emotions among the residents of the city?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”Lord Zhou instructed us not to spread the word about what happened here, fearing it would cause panic. So now, everyone in the city thinks it was just a common plague, and the plague has been mostly dealt with. Other families are alright, but the Zhang Family had it the worst, losing an elder and a child,” Sun Jia said, unable to hold back a sigh.

The real Xiuxiu had indeed died, and old man Sun was also killed by a gu sorcerer after he found out something was wrong with her.

”Xie Er has passed the quarantine period these days. I asked him to go help out the Zhang Family more. As it happened, he ended up being godparents with the Zhang Family,” Sun Jia added.

”Xie Er, you’ve struck it lucky, finding a good master and godparents. Now you’re not alone anymore. You’ll have to work hard,” Bai Ruozhu mused that this might be the best outcome.

Scratching his head, Xie Er said, ”The alliance leader’s lesson is well taken; I will definitely make an effort.”

Later, Sun Jia mentioned that other doctors also wanted to join the Medical Alliance. Bai Ruozhu naturally had no objections. She instructed Sun Jia to register their information and distributed identity tokens.

The team only stayed in Guangqi City for a day. In the morning, Chen Feng accompanied Jiang Yichun to meet with Zhou Shu. He remembered many things dimly and feared he would misspeak, so Chen Feng had to stay beside him as a reminder.

Bai Ruozhu wandered around the town, and as she walked, she heard an old man’s voice selling Wontons in the distance. Her mind suddenly flashed back to her experience during the height of the plague, when she and he, hand in hand, ate Wontons at the empty stall on the deserted street.

It felt like just yesterday, yet he had been afflicted with an evil technique and hadn’t recovered, and she, powerless to solve his problem, could only ask Ning Yu for help after returning to the Capital City.

”Madam, we meet again!” As she approached, old Mrs. Sun recognized her and greeted her with a warm smile, ”Would you like a bowl of Wontons? Thanks to you, we started getting better early on and returned home a few days ago.”

Shaking off her somber mood, Bai Ruozhu replied with a smile to the old lady, ”Congratulations on your recovery. I’ll have a bowl of Wontons.”

The old master was not much of a talker; he greeted her and then went off to cook the wontons, his movements exceptionally nimble. Bai Ruozhu watched the elderly couple, both with white hair, still nestling against each other, and she suddenly felt envious. She and Achun had also dreamt of living together until they were old and gray.

The steaming hot wonton soup was placed before her, and her eyes began to feel warm, not knowing why the tears fell, dripping into the hot wonton soup and instantly disappearing without a trace.

She hung her head, not wanting the elderly couple to see her emotions.

At that moment, a hand suddenly rested on her shoulder. She instinctively turned to look and saw a stern face come into view.

He raised his hand to wipe away the tears still lingering on her cheeks, ”It was I who made you sad.”

He had actually finished his work a while ago and wanted to find her. He only chased after her when Sun Jia told him that the lady had gone out. He had seen her earlier that day on the street—but he hadn’t dared to approach her, much less call out her name.

In her presence, he always felt a mix of guilt and fear.

When he saw her laughing and talking with the elderly man, a similar scene suddenly flashed through his mind—except that it was very quiet around them at that time. They must have been here before!

By the time he saw her head bowed in tears, his heart clenched tightly, and he rushed over without a second thought.

”No, it’s just some sand in my eyes,” Bai Ruozhu knew this excuse was lame, but she couldn’t come up with a better one at the moment.

He sat down beside her, not disputing the truth of her words, ”I remember we have been here before, I was sitting on this side next to you.”

Old Sun Head saw Jiang Yichun and cheerfully said, ”Young man, how about I get you a bowl as well?”

”No need, old man, I’ve just eaten and my stomach is too full. I’ll just share with her,” Jiang Yichun said with a smile to the old man.

Old Sun Head wanted to say that you gave so much silver last time that another bowl was only right, but the old lady shot him a look that said the young couple was being affectionate so don’t be insensitive.

Bai Ruozhu was stunned by Jiang Yichun’s words, so much so that she overlooked his ”share with her.” She looked at him and asked, ”Have you remembered everything?”

He smiled at her, ”I’ve remembered parts, but more and more is coming back. I will be well soon.” When I’m well, can you forgive me?

He didn’t dare ask the last part aloud. He knew her wounds had not yet healed and was acutely aware of how ruthless and lethal his own sword had been.

Only when Jiang Yichun took her spoon to eat the wontons did Bai Ruozhu snap out of it. ”What are you doing? Those are my wontons!”

”I just like to eat my wife’s wontons,” Jiang Yichun said with a grin, scooping up another wonton.

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback once again. This time he called her ”wife” and didn’t use the unfamiliar term ”spouse.” It seemed he was indeed regaining many of his uncontrolled memories, and he had returned to his shamelessly cheeky demeanor!

”Go buy your own if you want to eat, give me back my spoon!” Bai Ruozhu said as she tried to snatch it back, but Jiang Yichun kept his hand out of reach and teased with a grin, ”Aren’t you too lazy, wife? Why isn’t it good for me to feed you?”

”You’re the lazy one, your whole family is lazy!” Bai Ruozhu said indignantly, forgetting that his entire family also included her, his wife.
