Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1298: 1300 Chapter A Good Omen Before the Destination_1

Jin Wanliang let out a low growl and reached out to shoo away the flies. Startled, the flies scattered but buzzed right back in a circle as if attracted to some ”delicacy” on Jin Wanliang’s body.

An adjacent merchant with a weaker stomach retched, causing others to step back a bit as well.

Bai Ruozhu lifted her sleeve to cover her nose, deliberately showed a look of astonishment and said, ”What’s with Boss Jin attracting flies like this? Doesn’t he have some serious illness? Could it be contagious? We’d better hurry on our way and not catch any illness.”

Jiang Yichun struggled to suppress his laughter and sternly said to the Holy Guards blocking their way, ”We are merchants from Danliang Country who have always abided by the laws of the Western Regions. What business do you have stopping us? If it’s just because Boss Jin is talking nonsense and you intend to punish us, then we’ll have to take the matter to the Holy Hall and the Government Office to settle it properly.”

The leading Holy Guard’s expression changed. He was well aware of the conflict between Jin Wanliang and Bai Ruozhu and had led the team to capture her. Unfortunately, their ambush failed, and they had to retreat immediately to avoid blowing their cover. He did suspect that Bai Ruozhu would take revenge on Jin Wanliang, but without evidence, even the Holy Hall couldn’t arrest people so blatantly.

Seeing the Holy Guard’s hesitation, Jin Wanliang shooed away the flies again, pointed at Bai Ruozhu, and demanded, ”She’s a female doctor from Danliang Country. Let her treat me, and if she can’t cure me, they shouldn’t be allowed to leave!”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but snort coldly, ”Boss Jin, since when do you give orders like a tyrant? Even the authorities of the Holy Hall wouldn’t be so unreasonable. You certainly carry yourself with a great deal of arrogance.”

”I’m certain you’ve tampered with something. Otherwise, why would I not trouble anyone else?” Jin Wanliang said as he grimaced and groaned, itching and aching all over, a sensation far worse than mere pain.

”Do you have any evidence? You’ve been coveting our goods all along, causing trouble repeatedly. It’s a pity, I even gave you the top-quality snake medicine brought from Danliang Country to cure your snakebite, and this is how you repay kindness with malice. And now you continue to defame me,” Bai Ruozhu said, pointing at the pustules on his skin that showed through his clothes. ”I’ve never seen such a strange disease, nor do I know how to treat it. You’d better find someone more skilled.”

After speaking, she quickly covered her mouth and nose again, muttering, ”Good heavens, how could it stink so badly? We must hurry away; I hope it’s not some contagious plague.”

Although her words were quiet, they still reached many ears. Everyone hurriedly moved further away from Jin Wanliang, even his own servants discreetly stepped back. Now Jin Wanliang truly found himself deserted by all.

Jiang Yichun looked at the leading Holy Guard and said with a bow, ”We only came to the Western Regions to trade and foster the economic exchange between the two countries. Please allow us to proceed.”

However, Jin Wanliang clamored, ”You can’t let them go; seize them for interrogation at the Holy Hall!”

Bai Ruozhu sneered softly, murmuring, ”Since when do the esteemed authorities of the Western Regions’ Holy Hall take orders from a Zhongyuan person and seize people so irrationally? Wouldn’t that tarnish the Holy Hall’s reputation?”

The Holy Guard’s face also showed displeasure; they were ordered to protect Jin Wanliang on his entrance into Gaochang City but weren’t supposed to be commanded by him, especially with such an unreasonable request from Jin Wanliang.

”The Holy Hall naturally does not favor anyone. You may leave, but if it is found out this matter is related to you, don’t think you can safely leave the Western Regions,” said the Holy Guard.

Jiang Yichun responded with a bow, ”We will stay in Gaochang City for a while and are willing to cooperate with the investigation of the Holy Guard.”

Seeing Jiang Yichun’s calm and open manner, the Holy Guard felt even more certain that this matter had nothing to do with the Bai Family Merchant Team.

Jiang Yichun’s Merchant Team was allowed to pass and soon left the Jin Family Merchant Team behind. Nevertheless, they could still faintly hear Jin Wanliang’s complaints and cries of pain. Jin Wanliang was usually a slick and cunning man, but now, afflicted with poison and discomfort, he was very irritable and even dared to lash out at the Holy Guard. It seemed he had some bitter lessons ahead.

Once they reached a deserted place, Bai Ruozhu was already laughing uproariously, giving Jiang Yichun a thumbs up and saying, ”Well done just now.”

Jiang Yichun patted his clothes and said with a proud face, ”Of course, I am a legitimate, law-abiding merchant.”

The guards behind him couldn’t help but start laughing. Bai Ruozhu took out sunscreen and began applying it, then said with a smile, ”Jin Wanliang really looks miserable. You can get dizzy from a distance; his wife must despise him even more now.”

Jiang Yichun smirked, ”With his bad luck, he might not even be able to enter Gaochang City.”

Bai Ruozhu was in high spirits, ”This is what they call reaping what you sow.”

The two chatted and laughed at the front of the team when suddenly the sky darkened and thunder rumbled ominously, and a downpour suddenly fell.

Everyone’s countenance turned serious again, and they dared not be distracted, fearing another thunderstrike might come down.

Because of the psychological shadow, Liu Xinyu inside the horse carriage trembled and his face turned extremely pale.

Bai Ruozhu looked at the sky, not believing that the person from the Holy Hall would use the same method to deal with her again; clearly, she was blessed with good fortune, and such curse techniques that utilized changes in celestial phenomena couldn’t touch her.

As expected, the rain came quickly and left just as swiftly; nothing happened along the way, and it was just a false alarm.

”Everyone, tidy up and let’s continue on our way,” instructed Jiang Yichun.

They all breathed a sigh of relief but then found it amusing—hadn’t the lady said they couldn’t use that type of curse technique for a while? When did they become so timid? With this thought, the guards began to feel a little embarrassed.

Suddenly, Bai Ruozhu pointed at the distant sky and shouted, ”Look, a rainbow!”

Jiang Yichun looked up and, sure enough, because it had just rained, the sun shone a splendid rainbow across the sky. He couldn’t help but wrap an arm around Bai Ruozhu’s shoulders and say with a laugh, ”They say a rainbow is a ribbon dropped by a fairy, a sign of good luck.”

Bai Ruozhu began to smile; it was clearly just the water vapor reflecting the sunlight after the rain, but the mention of good luck made everyone’s eyes shine, so naturally, she wouldn’t dispel the joy with disparaging words.

”Yes, it’s a sign of good luck. This journey is bound to go smoothly!” Bai Ruozhu exclaimed aloud.

At that moment, morale soared once again, and the shadow that had loomed over them finally completely dissipated. Even Liu Xinyu, inside the carriage, lifted the curtain to look at the distant rainbow, his eyes regaining their luster.

The journey was smooth sailing, and the post-rain weather was not as dry. Finally, after a long trek, they could see the city walls of Gaochang City in the distance.

Just then, a series of urgent hoofbeats came from behind. The group turned to look and saw a young nobleman riding hard, looking like he was about to reach them.

”Merchant Team, stop him for this princess!” A woman riding a red sweat-blood treasure horse shouted at them from behind, urging Bai Ruozhu and the others to intercept him.
