Chapter 1293: Chapter 1295: Low Morale_1

A scream rang through the air as the guard shook violently, his body making sizzling noises. Soon, the smell of scorching reached their noses, and with a thud, he collapsed to the ground.

Everyone was in shock and hadn’t snapped back to reality. It was Bai Ruozhu who reacted the quickest, rushing over and hastily stuffing a pill into the guard’s mouth, then proceeding to feel for his pulse. She immediately took out a silver needle and began to apply acupuncture at a rapid pace.

Jiang Yichun also rushed over, saying with great anxiety, ”Ruozhu, we should move to a different location, just in case there is another thunderstrike...”

He was afraid that she might get involved herself while trying to save the man.

”No, his life hangs by a thread, we can’t move him now,” Bai Ruozhu answered hurriedly before starting treatment on the guard, her expression turning extremely serious.

All held their breath in tension. What was that just now? Being struck by lightning was considered a divine punishment. How could such a thing happen?

And everyone was also concerned for their injured comrade. Could he really survive? His entire body was charred.

Bai Ruozhu continued with the acupuncture and the administering of medicine. She even had Jianqi transfer his inner strength to the injured, and she applied ointment to his skin. After a long while, she wiped the sweat and rain off her forehead and said in a grave voice, ”His life is temporarily saved, but his martial arts are gone, and he has suffered extensive burns over his body. It’s hard to say if he’ll pull through.”

Everyone inhaled sharply. Jiang Yichun’s face darkened as he said in a low voice, ”Being alive like this is too painful for him; let me end his suffering.”

He spoke with resolute certainty, but he couldn’t hide the pain in his eyes. The man was one of his subordinates, like a brother to him.

Bai Ruozhu closed her eyes tightly. She knew Jiang Yichun was right. The guards here were proud at heart. To be stripped of his martial arts and possibly bedridden for life was cruel.

Moreover, the extensive burning would bring him tremendous pain. Given the current medical conditions, he might continue to run fevers, eventually succumbing to sepsis.

To live like this was truly an immense suffering!

If... if only he could enter her Space, soak in that miraculous hot spring, perhaps there would be hope for him!

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes lit up. She had almost forgotten this possibility since she had recently been unable to enter her Space. She didn’t know when she would be able to enter again but couldn’t bear to give up without trying; she felt it would be unfair to the guard.

She shook her head at Jiang Yichun, ”Give me some time, let me try. Even if his martial arts cannot be restored, as long as he can live like a normal person, there’s still hope for his life. He could still do many other things.”

Hope flickered in Jiang Yichun’s eyes as well. If there was a chance, he didn’t want to end his subordinate’s life.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart skipped a beat. She was aware of Jiang Yichun’s hopes and feelings. She worried it might take a long time and began to feel frustrated that her medical skills weren’t better and that she didn’t have more medicine on hand.

The injured guard was carefully lifted onto the horse carriage, and Chu Hai’s gaze grew deep. ”How could there be a thunderstrike?”

At this time, people were superstitious, even the most formidable individuals avoided matters concerning ghosts and gods.

Therefore, everyone’s expression was grave. Could this be the wrath of the heavens?

”This is not the will of the heavens, nor is it just our bad luck. It must be the Holy Hall’s doing.” Bai Ruozhu said loudly to the people, ”You should have heard that Witchcraft can harm people. Naturally, someone could use such stormy weather to cast spells and harm us. I am a student of the National Master, but after all, my learning is superficial. If the National Master were still alive, or if my senior brother were here, they would have a way to break this Curse Technique.”

She did not believe in any divine punishment, nor could it be a Thunderstrike caused by standing under a tree, because there had been no lightning before nor after the strike—it had come out of nowhere. If it wasn’t a sneak attack then what was it?

Yet people were still extremely anxious. Just one strike could take someone’s life, and they were completely unprepared. How could they possibly stand against the Holy Hall’s people if things continued like this?

”Everyone need not worry so much. We have not had a direct conflict with the Holy Hall. As of now, it’s likely that Jin Wanliang has found someone to harm me, as I am the one he hates the most for not saving his daughter,” Bai Ruozhu didn’t want to spread panic and continued to explain, ”But you should have also noticed that there was only one lightning strike. If this Curse Technique were easy to activate, why wouldn’t they strike several times? Wouldn’t we all be lying here then?”

”Moreover, I have read in some books that the more powerful the Curse Technique, the longer it takes to activate. This means they gave us a shock this time, but to use this trick again, I’m afraid they will have to stop for quite a while. And such a powerful Curse Technique is not something that just anyone can use,” she continued.

Only then did the crowd breathe a sigh of relief. However, Jiang Yichun’s eyes were still filled with worry, ”We should hasten our journey to Gaochang and find a way to deal with Jin Wanliang.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded. She, too, had been scared for a moment because it was very likely she would have been hit by that bolt of lightning. She could not guarantee that she could dodge it, nor dare to imagine what she would look like struck by it.

But now her heart was as calm as still water, neither afraid nor regretful, and she would not feel remorse for having refused to save Jin Jing. She wasn’t a saint and wouldn’t save someone who had repeatedly harmed her. On the other hand, she felt that even if she had saved Jin Jing, it would have been futile. The Jin father and daughter would still hate her, just as Jin Wanliang, whose life she had saved, showed no gratitude.

Even though it was Sangta who had hurt Jin Jing, the Jin father and daughter would still blame her since they dared not provoke Sangta, they would automatically redirect their hatred onto her, who seemed like an easier target.

But was she really such an easy target?

The corners of her mouth lifted slightly. Since the Jin family wanted to play, she would not hold back.

Jiang Yichun was very familiar with her expression. When she was pushed to her limit and about to take drastic action, she would show such a calm and smiling face. He looked at her with some concern and said, ”From now on, don’t stay more than two meters away from me.”

Her laughter was drawn out by his nervousness, and she said, ”Don’t worry, I carry the blessing of my master, the National Master. Such Evil Techniques cannot affect me.”

Meanwhile, she had read in the Astrology Tower that those with a rising purple aura have extremely good fortune, meaning that ordinary Curses would find it hard to affect her, just like today’s lightning struck someone else, but not her. Perhaps the caster of the spell could not ensure absolute accuracy, yet the target was locked on her, but in the end, she was unscathed.

Bai Ruozhu did not want to mention that she was a person with a rising purple aura, feeling that it was better to keep such matters secret, especially with the Barbarian Clan’s prophecy in play—she feared everything would be linked to her.

However, she felt a deep sense of guilt for the guard who had been struck by lightning; one could say he had been involved because of her.

The downpour came abruptly, and stopped just as quickly. The group set off once more, but this time the atmosphere was somewhat somber. With the heavy rain making the roads muddy, everyone was splattered with mud and dirt, looking rather disheveled. Their morale was also lower than it had ever been.
