Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1261: Chapter 1263 Medical Alliance_1

Bai Ruozhu personally dealt with the remnants of the Gu Master—the black powder. Don’t underestimate this stuff; if not handled properly, it could poison countless people, or even trigger a sudden outbreak of plague.

After everything at the drying ground had been taken care of, she let the patients return to their places. Many were still trembling with fear, with some of the more timid women even chasing after Bai Ruozhu to ask, ”Will there still be bad people? Will they kill us?”

Bai Ruozhu thought to herself that those people were counting on you to spread the plague to others, so how could they bear to kill you?

Of course, she couldn’t say that out loud. She comforted everyone by saying, ”The traitor has been found, and we have discovered that the plague was deliberately released by the Gu Master. Now that he is dead, the plague is under control, but those of you who have not recovered yet still need to be quarantined for treatment; otherwise, you might still infect others.”

When everyone heard that the Gu Master was dead, they felt much more at ease. Then they couldn’t help but sigh— who could have suspected that Xiuxiu, that little girl, was a Gu Master?

”Don’t misunderstand, the real Xiuxiu was killed by the Gu Master, who then took her appearance to infiltrate the quarantine zone in order to understand our movements,” Bai Ruozhu explained, ”It’s a pity for Xiuxiu and Old Zhang, I hope that after this incident, everyone can provide more care and help to Xiuxiu’s family—they are the greatest victims of this disaster.”

Upon hearing this, the crowd nodded and promised to look after the Zhang Family more in the future.

Soon after, Bai Ruozhu also explained the situation to the patients in the early stages of the disease. The crowd was relieved yet sighed in pity again, for the innocent Xiuxiu didn’t even leave any remains.

Sun Jia had learned a lot from following Bai Ruozhu these past few days and his awe for her had grown even more. Just now, had Bai Ruozhu not warned him, he would have been dangerously close to losing his life. He took the opportunity to thank Bai Ruozhu, who just smiled at him and said, ”Doctor Sun, we will soon be returning to the Capital to report on the situation. There is still a recovery period for the patients here, and my plan is to entrust them all to you. Would you be willing?”

They were in a hurry to head to the Western Regions. Chu Hai had been calmly taking care of Tu Bai for the past few days without saying anything, but she could already see the urgency in Chu Hai’s eyes.

Sun Jia was startled for a moment and said, ”No, no, that won’t do. My medical skills are far inferior to yours. If you leave, I definitely won’t be able to handle it.”

”What if I teach you? Once you’ve understood the complete series of treatments for the plague, I’ll teach you a few sets of emergency acupuncture techniques, then you’ll certainly be able to stand on your own,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Sun Jia’s face showed even greater shock. He suddenly knelt down and kowtowed to Bai Ruozhu, ”Master, please accept your disciple’s bow!”

Bai Ruozhu was startled, wondering how he had suddenly knelt down. A person older than her own father bowing and kowtowing to her was like shortening her lifespan!

She hurriedly reached out to help Sun Jia up, feigning anger as she said, ”I detest bowing and kowtowing the most. If you don’t get up, I’ll be afraid to teach you.”

On hearing this, Sun Jia quickly scrambled up, ”Paying respects to one’s master is proper. Please don’t be modest with me, Master.”

A twitch appeared at the corner of Bai Ruozhu’s mouth, ”I didn’t say I would take you as a disciple; I am your junior. This is inappropriate.”

Sun Jia’s face fell, full of disappointment and dejection, ”Medical skills do not differentiate between the young and the old. Your medical skills far surpass mine; you would have more than enough to be my master. Are you not willing to teach me anymore?”

”No, I will still teach you, even if you are not my disciple, I will share all I have. You might not believe me, but in my heart, there’s no such thing as exclusive medical skills that can’t be shared. Medicine should benefit the people, and if everyone could share with each other, and more people could master higher medical skills, wouldn’t it mean that more people would suffer less from diseases and more lives could be saved?” Bai Ruozhu slowly began to explain.

Sun Jia’s admiration this time was no less than before; he didn’t expect Bai Ruozhu, despite her young age, to have such a broad-minded vision.

Recalling that Bai Ruozhu didn’t like people kneeling before her, he made a deep bow and said, ”I truly admire Doctor Bai for having such thoughts. In retrospect, I realize that my own vision is not as wide as yours. If given the chance, I too would wish to share my medical skills with others, to truly benefit the populace.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded repeatedly upon hearing this; this was the very idea she had for establishing the Medical Alliance. To have doctors from all over, who shared this vision, join the alliance, where members could regularly exchange their scholarly findings, learn from each other’s brilliant techniques, and continuously improve their medical skills. In this way, within just a few years, Danliang Country’s medical practice would surely become the best among the countries, and it would benefit many more people.

Just imagine, even a common doctor in a village having deeper medical skills, wouldn’t that save more lives?

What her grandpa regretted most in her previous life was the decline of traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine was not as easy to study as Western medicine, didn’t have as many instruments for diagnostics, and doctors had to rely on their own senses and skills like inspection, listening, inquiring, and palpation. Additionally, many were passed down from father to son, or from master to disciple, and with everyone protective of their proprietary secret recipes, unwilling to share with outsiders, many medical prescriptions and skills were lost to the sands of time, which was truly lamentable.

As someone with modern thoughts, Bai Ruozhu had no intention of becoming a famous doctor to make money, so she wished even more to promote and expand the practice of ancient medicine.

”I’ve always wanted to set up a Medical Alliance. I’ll share my medical skills with the members of the alliance and members will need to exchange and learn regularly to help promote the advancement and development of medicine. I’m teaching you medical skills not for you to take me as your master but in hopes that you will join the Medical Alliance. What do you think?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Sun Jia nodded vigorously, ”I am willing to join the Medical Alliance, and please just command me for whatever the alliance needs in the future.”

”Good, for now, you’ll be in charge of the Guangqi Town area. After this plague passes, you can recruit more members to join the alliance and also teach them medical skills. Later on, I will arrange for a division leader to organize you all,” Bai Ruozhu said.

She didn’t tell Sun Jia that the alliance actually had only three people at the moment: herself, Sun Jia, and Jiu Sheng, her nominal disciple.

Then, Bai Ruozhu taught Sun Jia a set of needlework techniques that could help relieve local pain for patients, for instance, for those suffering from severe ulcerations due to plague, to temporarily alleviate pain and provide some relief.

Sun Jia almost didn’t know acupuncture at all, so he had to start from the simplest, and despite his age, he was diligent and eager to learn, going home to practice on himself.

Bai Ruozhu happily recounted the news of having gained a new member to Jiang Yichun, who showed an indulgent smile, rubbing her head and saying, ”As long as you’re happy, just don’t overwork yourself.”

Bai Ruozhu felt as if he didn’t take her words seriously, almost as if he saw her efforts as child’s play, which annoyed her a bit, but then he said, ”I guess I count as a doctor who understands medical skills. Does the leader agree to let me join?”

”Let’s say I’m giving you a backdoor entry, but you must put in extra effort for the alliance,” she said, pretending to put on airs.

”Yes, my leader.”
