Chapter 1254: Chapter 1256: Herbal Crisis_1

Before Bai Ruozhu could react, Jiang Yichun stepped in front of her, glaring coldly at the Mad Monk and said, ”What nonsense are you spouting, get lost!”

However, the Mad Monk was not at all afraid of Jiang Yichun’s murderous aura, waving his patched-up wide sleeves and said deliriously, ”I’m not talking nonsense, why should I leave?”

As he spoke, he tried to move to the side to get a clear look at Bai Ruozhu behind Jiang Yichun, ”Truly a person who should be dead, why haven’t you died?”

A click sounded in Bai Ruozhu’s heart, wasn’t the original owner of this body indeed dead? Could it be that this Mad Monk actually possessed some abilities?

Jiang Yichun, upon hearing this, became annoyed and was about to use his inner strength to send the Mad Monk flying with the wave of his sleeve, but Bai Ruozhu pulled his arm from behind.

”Achun, don’t start a fight,” she said softly, then walked out from behind Jiang Yichun.

”Master must have seen wrong, I am alive and well,” Bai Ruozhu said calmly, the previous person was the previous person, she was herself, she was the Bai Ruozhu of the 21st century, but also Bai Ruozhu of Danliang Country, and she was right here, alive and well.

The Mad Monk stared at her unblinkingly, then suddenly softened his eyes and rubbed them vigorously, as if the eyes were not his own.

”It’s not right, not right, how has the fate changed? Could it be that I saw it wrong?” the monk mumbled to himself, appearing even crazier.

Bai Ruozhu smiled, knowing the core had changed, and naturally, the fate would as well. So what if the other person could see that?

Suddenly feeling cheerful, she took Jiang Yichun’s arm and was about to leave, but then the monk shouted again, ”Who exactly are you? Why can’t I see your fate clearly, it’s all a blur, who are you?”

The monk seemed to have gone mad, shouting until he was hoarse, and even charged right up to Bai Ruozhu. If it hadn’t been for Bai Ruozhu holding Jiang Yichun back, he would surely have kicked the monk flying.

”My name is Bai Ruozhu, I am his wife,” said Bai Ruozhu with a light smile.

Jiang Yichun’s body tensed, and then the face that seemed to be covered in ice bloomed with a dazzling smile.

She said she was simply his wife, who was she? She was his wife, the one who ranked foremost in his heart.

The monk, in pain, struck his own head, muttering to himself, ”Why can’t I see clearly? It’s as if I’ve forgotten something?”

Bai Ruozhu guessed that he was indeed mad, and so she pulled Jiang Yichun away. They hadn’t gone far when the monk followed them again and suddenly stretched out his dirty hand, offering Bai Ruozhu something.

”Your fate is unclear, your spirit must be unstable, our encounter is fated. Take this protective talisman, keep it well,” the monk suddenly spoke as if he were normal, like an enlightened monk.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help thinking about when Ning Yu had performed his ritual, how her spirit almost got sucked away, so indeed her spirit was unstable. She looked at the monk more closely; this person didn’t seem entirely mad, and he had gotten quite a few things right.

She reached out to take the protective talisman, bowed to the monk, and expressed her thanks, ”Thank you, Master, may I ask how you are called?”

”Jie Dian,” the monk said two words, then once again started laughing crazily and left.

Jiang Yichun looked at the protective talisman in Bai Ruozhu’s hand, his worry apparent as he said, ”This thing has an unknown origin, you better check it carefully.”

Bai Ruozhu sniffed, ”No problem, I’ll keep it safe.” She slipped the protective talisman into her sleeve and then quietly placed it into her space.

Soon after, Jiang Yichun described the mad monk’s appearance to an officer and started inquiring about him.

”The mad monk, yes, I know him. He’s practically a permanent resident of our town, living in the dilapidated temple on the northern outskirts all year round. No one knows whether he has any teachers or brothers. He babbles nonsense every day, and kind-hearted townspeople give him food, so he doesn’t starve,” an officer said.

”But as mad as he is, he sometimes gets things right. Last time, he pointed at an old man and said his time under the sun was almost up, that he had only three days left, and urged him to go home and prepare for his death. The old man’s son was outraged and even beat up the monk for saying such things. As it turned out, three days later, the old man passed away in his sleep, quite peacefully,” the officer suddenly lowered his voice, adding with a mysterious look, ”Some in town say the mad monk can glimpse the will of heaven, but how can a person do that? That’s probably why he’s turned so mad, sometimes lucid and sometimes not.”

Jiang Yichun was somewhat stunned after hearing this. Bai Ruozhu then gave some silver to the officer and pulled Jiang Yichun away.

While walking on the road, Bai Ruozhu quietly took his hand and whispered, ”What are you thinking about? Are you worried about me?”

Jiang Yichun furrowed his brows, neither affirming nor denying, but his expression grew grave.

Bai Ruozhu pursed her lips and chuckled softly, ”That monk has some skill, but don’t overthink it. He was talking about the old Ruozhu.”

Jiang Yichun paused for a moment and quickly understood, letting out a sigh of relief, his heart settling down.

Over the next two days, no accidents happened in the quarantine zone, as if the inner ghost didn’t dare to act recklessly anymore. Also, Bai Ruozhu let Furball go out to the town at night to find ”dimsum,” so the number of patients really didn’t increase. However, the identity of the person who cast the poisonous insect remained a mystery.

What puzzled Bai Ruozhu the most was that after she had tested each person in the quarantine zone, she hadn’t found anyone problematic!

Could it be that the inner ghost wasn’t among these patients, but rather among the guards or doctors who came to take care of them?

This gave Bai Ruozhu a headache, as those people, unlike the patients, were not easy to test.

At that moment, Jiang Yichun returned with a concerned look on his face and announced, ”The medicinal materials in Guangqi Town are running out. The herbs commonly used to treat the plague are nearly depleted. Since the town has been sealed off, medicine merchants can’t deliver supplies, and it’s estimated that we will soon be unable to keep up with the demand. I blame myself for not thinking of this earlier and not preparing in advance.”

”We are dealing with a plague for the first time, so it’s unavoidable that we’ve overlooked certain things. We’ll just have to find other ways to make up for it. I’ve been conserving medicine these past few days,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”I’ve already arranged for people to go to the western mountainous area to collect herbs. There are many mountain folk who gather herbs there, so we should be able to get some. Additionally, I’ve sent Zhou Shu to seek reinforcements in Jinshui City,” Jiang Yichun said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”Then we should have medicinal materials delivered soon. Don’t worry too much, go get some rest.”

In recent days, Jiang Yichun had been conducting nightly investigations for the person spreading the plague, going without sleep for several nights in a row.

Jiang Yichun nodded and went back to his small cabin to sleep.

Bai Ruozhu then touched her hand, thinking of the medicinal materials she had stored in her space. If necessary, she would secretly take them out bit by bit to use for the patients, which should tide them over for a while.

Soon a day passed, and it was the dead of night when Furball, having gone out to forage for itself, suddenly returned to alert Bai Ruozhu that it seemed to have discovered something!

Bai Ruozhu woke up Jiang Yichun and followed Furball as it dashed towards the central district of the town.
