Chapter 1271: Chapter 1273: Barbarian Clan’s Bloody Beast Team_1

Bai Ruozhu and his group had changed into ordinary merchant attire as soon as they entered the Western Regions. The dark guards, who had been scattered around, discovered the Barbarian Tribe was attacking a Beast Team ahead of them, reported to Jiang Yichun, explaining the Beast Team was coming their way but apparently targeting the large Merchant Team not far behind them.

Jiang Yichun ordered everyone to take cover on a small hillside nearby, since they were currently doing their best to avoid conflicts with the Barbarian Tribe to prevent their identities from being exposed and drawing attention from the Western Regions.

From their vantage point on high ground, Bai Ruozhu could clearly see the scene on the official road below, which gave him quite the start.

They had barely concealed themselves when the ground began to tremble, and the sound of galloping beasts could be heard in the distance, a noise that couldn’t possibly be compared to the pounding of horse hooves.

At first, Bai Ruozhu even thought the dark guard had reported incorrectly; this wasn’t some robbing squad, but clearly the presence of beasts, with dust rising everywhere, wolves sprinting through the dust clouds, and leopards and tigers following closely behind, occasionally letting out loud roars.

When the Beast Team got closer, Bai Ruozhu could finally see clearly that there was a person riding on the back of the largest tiger, which was white with spotted markings!

The tiger, being of considerable size and exuding an imposing presence, allowed one to guess that it must be of the Tiger King rank. And considering that the tiger is the king of all beasts, and this one was particularly rare with its white color, it was truly surprising to see it being commanded by a human, as this was no circus performance!

While Bai Ruozhu was still in a daze, the large Merchant Team had already entered his line of sight.

”Brothers, let’s go! Kill all those who resist, and take everything valuable back to the tribe!” the man riding the tiger suddenly shouted. His words were not incomprehensible, almost the same as the language of Zhongyuan, only with a bit of an accent.

”Alright! Looks like we’ll have a big haul today. Prince Sangta owes us a round of drinks,” a robust Barbarian Tribe warrior following the tiger-mounted man said with a laugh.

”Of course, you’ll have fine wine!” Sangta laughed heartily.

The large Merchant Team had already noticed the Beast Team approaching, but they didn’t panic as one might expect. The boss of the Merchant Team, Jin Wanliang, patted a swordsman on the shoulder, saying, ”Master Lin, I’ve hired the Invincible Escort Agency at a great price, and now it’s time for you to show your skills.”

Master Lin unsheathed his sword with a swish and said solemnly, ”Mr. Jin, rest assured. The martial arts of Zhongyuan are profound and extensive; we will surely leave none of these barbarians!”

”Wonderful! Master Lin’s resolve is admirable, I commend you,” Mr. Jin said as he bowed. If he weren’t so stout, he might even pass for a scholar.

With exceptionally good eyesight and hearing, Bai Ruozhu could see the situation from afar and couldn’t help but twitch at the corner of her mouth. What was even happening over there; could they stop showing off for a moment?

She had never heard of the Invincible Escort Agency and had no idea how capable they were, but she was confident that even her own team, if they faced this Beast Team, couldn’t afford the slightest carelessness and would likely have to fight bitterly.

On the side of the Beast Team, Sangta suddenly took out a whistle and blew it, causing the ferocious beasts to speed up, charging towards the Merchant Team with great velocity. Those riding the animals at the back raised their morale, shouting excitedly, and some even sang strange songs in loud and somewhat terrifying voices.

”Ao ao ao ao...” Sangta, riding the white tiger, also shouted excitedly, his head raised, as if he too were a beast. His posture and voice made him seem more like the king of beasts than the Tiger King below him, and he emitted a wild and dangerous aura.

The Beast Team charged rapidly, bringing with them a cloud of dust as they rushed towards the Merchant Team. Master Lin led his men with shields at the ready, looking prepared with their movements in unison, resembling an army, but they soon realized their miscalculation.

Sangta let out a howl, and the Beast Team suddenly split into two parts, bypassing one side of the shield formation and rushing through the bushes on both sides towards the weaker flanks and rear of the Merchant Team.

They didn’t rush to kill people as they stormed into the Merchant Team; they just charged in quickly and then ran off in a rush. However, many in the Merchant Team cried out in panic, scattering to escape.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes widened in disbelief; the Beast Team had planned this from the start—to scatter the Merchant Team and then pick them off one by one!

”Everyone, don’t panic, stay where you are and don’t move, otherwise we can’t protect you!” Lin, the leader, now showed signs of panic in his eyes—where was his confidence from before?

Jin Wanliang understood this as well and called out loudly, ”The barbarians love to use this method to scatter us. Whoever runs around will bear the consequences themselves!”

Some who wanted to stay calm stopped in their tracks and hurriedly returned to the Merchant Team, but there were still some who were so frightened that they ran into the Forest and shrank behind the trees.

Soon, a scream rang out. The person hiding behind the tree held his face and let out a heart-wrenching cry, as blood flowed from between his fingers covering his face, and a hunting hawk circled overhead, looking like it was preparing for a second attack.

The man realized he had chosen the wrong path and got up, running back towards the team like a madman, while the hawk dived at him again.

Lin, the leader, narrowed his eyes, and a dart flew out as fast as lightning. The hawk, very alert, immediately stopped and dodged, but it still got grazed on its belly, losing a few feathers.

In that split second, the man who had lost an eye was almost back at the Merchant Team. Lin, the leader, breathed a sigh of relief—he was saved.

Unexpectedly, there was a sudden howl, and a white figure flashed from the side, a gaping mouth fiercely biting into the man’s neck!

This time, the man collapsed without even managing a scream, while Sangta on the tiger’s back laughed wildly at Lin, the leader, flashing a mouthful of white, ghastly teeth.

Many in the Merchant Team cried out of fear, some even urinating in their pants, including men who considered themselves tough.

From a distance on the hillside, Bai Ruozhu covered her mouth tightly, equally frightened by the bloodshed—it was too gory!

Jiang Yichun wrapped his arms around her shoulders from behind and whispered, ”Don’t look anymore.”

She opened her mouth, wanting to say ’let’s go rescue them,’ because she could foresee that more people would die, and all of them might end up in the jaws of the ferocious beasts, just like the man before.

But in the end, she closed her mouth. She was not a saint and couldn’t do something that would betray her teammates. Even if they intervened now, it was uncertain whether they could save these people, and their own team might suffer casualties. Moreover, revealing their identities would not only attract hatred from the Barbarian Tribe but also lead to their assassination by forces from the Western Regions, and they might face more danger before even finding the saintly figure.

Yet...

Bai Ruozhu slightly tilted her head back, but tears still streamed down her cheeks.
