Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1252: Chapter 1254: The Crux of the Problem_1

Bai Ruozhu felt as if she were also comforting herself, she silently retreated and sought out Jiang Yichun to speak of the matter, asking, ”It wasn’t us who caused it, right?”

Jiang Yichun raised his hand to rub the space between her eyebrows, a gesture he found himself making unusually often lately, which indicated how easily she furrowed her brow now.

”How could it be? Their son was the first to fall ill. If we really have to trace it back, it should be their son who spread it,” Jiang Yichun said.

Bai Ruozhu sighed in relief, feeling somewhat better in her heart.

”You said we’ve been investigating in the town for two days with no results, could it be that the other party is acting at night?” Bai Ruozhu suddenly asked.

”There are arrangements for people to watch over the town at night too, and since the townspeople hardly go out, and there is a curfew, no one has been on the streets these past nights,” Jiang Yichun said.

After thinking it over, Bai Ruozhu said, ”Let’s take a turn around tonight and see if we can discover anything.”

Jiang Yichun could not bear to see her stay up late and immediately objected, ”No, you are too tired. You must rest well tonight!”

Seeing his seriousness, she sneakily looked around to make sure no one was watching, then grabbed his arm and shook it, ”Achun, I’ll go to sleep now for a while. With Doctor Sun watching over me, there won’t be any problems. Can’t I get up after the night falls completely?”

She rarely acted coquettishly, and Jiang Yichun didn’t have the heart to refuse. Moreover, he also knew that if there was some strange poisoning or curse involved, Bai Ruozhu might need to take a look herself.

”Then hurry up and rest, you can’t be tired anymore,” Jiang Yichun said helplessly rubbing her head, messing up her hairpin in the process.

”Your will be done!” Bai Ruozhu playfully saluted Jiang Yichun and ran back to her room to sleep. Jiang Yichun stood there stunned for a long time, trying to figure out what her gesture meant.

Once it was pitch-dark, Bai Ruozhu climbed out of bed, yawned a few times, and quickly became fully alert.

”Why don’t you lie down a bit longer? Even if they are up to something, it would likely be later,” Jiang Yichun said, seeing her continuous yawns and feeling sorry for her.

”It’s okay, I’ve slept enough. Lying down too much gives me a headache. Since we’ve decided to go, wouldn’t it be a waste if we missed out by being late?” Bai Ruozhu finished speaking and pulled him up to head outside together.

Jianqi and the others were already waiting for them. Jiang Yichun ordered Lightning and Morning Wind to keep watch over the movements in the quarantine zone and asked Jianqi and Muyu to follow, along with some subordinates who were good at light-footed skills.

The group, hidden in the cloak of night, began to inspect the town from all directions.

After a while, the moon was high in the sky, and it was now midnight. However, due to the rampant plague in the town, even the patrolmen were resting, making the entire town exceptionally quiet, like a sleeping beast that, though seeming peaceful, harbored swirling whirlpools and hidden lethality.

Bai Ruozhu followed Jiang Yichun to inspect every corner but found nothing. Recalling the books she had read in the Astrology Tower, she tried to form a hand seal with her fingers and whispered a spell, only to fail due to her first-time use.

Feeling somewhat embarrassed, she glanced at Jiang Yichun beside her. Fortunately, he was unaware of what she was doing and didn’t know she had failed miserably. She secretly stuck out her tongue and tried several more times until she finally activated the curse, perceiving a different sensation when viewing her surroundings.

This spell was somewhat similar to opening the third eye, but while the third eye was for seeing ghosts, this spell allowed one to detect where witchcraft had been used after activation.

However, after making the hand seal and walking a full circuit, she did not discover any traces of witchcraft.

”It doesn’t seem to be a curse,” Bai Ruozhu whispered.

”This is good, if it’s Witchcraft, we wouldn’t be able to break it,” Jiang Yichun replied in a low voice.

At that moment, suddenly some rustling noises came from a distance, the two of them perked up immediately. Jianqi was closest to the source of the noises, he was the first to react, but when he looked, it was just a few rats and reptiles.

”It’s not people, it’s rats,” he reported quietly to the others.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly felt disappointed. Could it be that they would come away with nothing today?

Just then, a white shadow suddenly sprang from her body, startling Jiang Yichun and Jianqi and the others with its speed.

But Jiang Yichun quickly realized it was Furball!

Furball darted to the spot where they had found the rats and reptiles, moving rapidly, and then returned. Although it couldn’t speak, it looked as though it had had its fill.

Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched, she always felt that Furball eating the rats and reptiles before climbing on her shoulder was somewhat creepy, and weren’t those things disgusting to eat?

Suddenly, her eyes widened, ”I’ve got it, my Poisonous Insect!”

Furball tolerated the Poisonous Insect, why would it eat the disciplined rats and reptiles?

At this moment, Furball communicated a few thoughts telepathically with Bai Ruozhu, but being of limited intelligence, it could only convey that there was someone here using Poisonous Insects to curse people, beyond that it hadn’t thought of anything, but Bai Ruozhu connected the dots and arrived at an answer.

”Let’s talk when we get back, so as not to startle the snake by hitting the grass,” Bai Ruozhu whispered.

The group quickly returned to the Quarantine zone and once they were alone in the backyard, Bai Ruozhu spoke up, ”Someone is using Poisonous Insects to play tricks. My research on Poisonous Insects isn’t deep, I didn’t know that there are Poisonous Insects that can cause the Plague. This way of creating a plague is really difficult to guard against!”

This was simply a Biochemical Weapon, which is why the United Nations forbids the use of Biochemical Weapons, it’s just too terrifying.

”Then, the Poisonous Insect that just died, would the person behind this know already?” Jiang Yichun asked quietly.

”I’m not sure, but such a Poisonous Insect dies after casting its curse to avoid startling the enemy. Tomorrow, let Zhou Shu pretend to send in three patients, and be careful not to show our hand,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Jianqi frowned and asked, ”No wonder we couldn’t find any suspicious people no matter how we searched; it turns out it was bugs at play. But we can’t fully protect against it, could we be cursed by our adversary overnight?”

”Don’t worry, I’ll prepare some herbal packs for you to carry. With the scent of those herbs, ordinary Poisonous Insects will give us a wide berth,” Bai Ruozhu said, ”As for the type that spreads plagues, a Gu Master would typically not send out their strongest Poisonous Insects.”

”So this is the crux of the matter. No wonder we’ve had no results. Killing Poisonous Insects only treats the symptoms, not the root cause. We still need to find the person behind them. Ruozhu, do you suspect anyone?” Jiang Yichun asked.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, ”Not yet, but don’t worry, I’ll find a way to draw that person out. Moreover, I suspect that the traitor in the Quarantine zone and the user of the Poisonous Insects are the same person!”

Everyone listening shivered. The number of Gu Masters in Danliang Country is extremely low, but many who raise Poisonous Insects are incredibly malicious and difficult to guard against. Even experts with strong inner strength can’t withstand the secret harm of Poisonous Insects, which is why almost everyone changes color upon hearing about them.

Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes; it had been a long time since her Furball had leveled up. She definitely couldn’t miss out on this offering to Buddha, and since Furball had done a good job tonight, she was going to reward it well.
