Checking in for 100,000 Years

Chapter 991: Chapter 991: Root of No Birth Beneath the Formless Tree

The silver sword tip was less than an inch away from his brow, and Dragon Tree Buddha felt the chilling intent to kill.

He had a feeling that he might die at any moment.

This feeling hadn’t appeared in tens of millions of years.

In the vast, black rainy night, the breathtaking sword that shone, and the sword before him—how similar they were.

Dragon Tree Buddha clearly remembered, after that sword cut down, he felt the arrival of death.

No more roots.

Originally, he wouldn’t have lived for much longer.

But luckily enough, he met Lord Ancestor Dragon.

Lord Ancestor Dragon saved his life.

Later, he inadvertently acquired a mysterious purple Buddha light, thus starting his true path of Buddhist cultivation.

After cultivating Buddhism, all became empty.

As his realm improved, Dragon Tree Buddha’s mentality became more certain and detached.

In his view, death almost didn’t exist.

He was an eternal and indestructible divine Buddha.

As long he didn’t leave the sacred pure land of Infinite Buddha Land under the gaze of the World Honoured One, he would never die.

”What harm is there in killing you?”

Looking at Dragon Tree Buddha, Ye Yun’s eyes were cold, and the sword tip advanced an inch forward.

The icy sword tip touched his forehead.

Dragon Tree Buddha shivered.

A feeling of terror emerged from deep within his soul.

He knew very well internally, this white-robed youth before him was a terrifying Sword Cultivator; his swordsmanship could entirely ignore the existence of distance.

If he didn’t confess, this strand of his divine sense could be killed at any moment.

If killed, the task assigned by the World Honoured One could not possibly be completed.

”I...”

Dragon Tree Buddha wanted to speak but stopped.

He wanted to confess, yet swallowed his words at the last moment.

Still wary.

”Two questions...”

Ye Yun smiled lightly, raising the Eight Treasures Delicate Mirror: ”The first question is, how did you obtain this mirror?”

Hoo...

Dragon Tree Buddha took a deep breath, his face turned solemn, and within the solemnity was a hint of complex emotions.

”That fellow already told you, millions of years ago, my true form, the Formless Tree, was severed at the roots by a sword, separating the tree trunk and roots. At that time, the roots were taken away, leaving only the dying tree trunk...”

Dragon Tree Buddha slowly started speaking.

Ye Yun’s gaze flickered and asked: ”Shouldn’t the Formless Tree have strong regenerative abilities?”

Dragon Tree Buddha looked at Ye Yun and sighed: ”In my ancient homeland, there’s a widely spread saying that under the Formless Tree there is no Root of No Birth, and within the Root of No Birth lies longevity...”

”Get to the point!”

Ye Yun frowned, interrupting him.

He didn’t like beating around the bush.

”As the Formless Tree, the roots birthed under the tree were also very famous. It was called the Root of No Birth, possessing the power of longevity creation. As long as the root system existed, the Formless Tree could continue to live...”

Dragon Tree Buddha explained.

”Interesting...”

Hearing this, Ye Yun smiled and nodded.

Why does the Formless Tree feel somewhat like ginseng to him now?

Ginseng’s roots are far more important than the branches, stems, and leaves above.

”In the Ancient Realm, many people cut the Formless Tree’s roots to refine various elixirs, which have a great life-extending effect...”

Dragon Tree Buddha continued.

”Talk about the Divine Land!”

Ye Yun said coldly.

He found that once Dragon Tree Buddha started talking, he would go on and on, often diverting from the topic.

”I was dying and wouldn’t have lived a century, when I met Lord Ancestor Dragon. Seeing my pitiful state, he bestowed upon me a drop of Dragon Blood, healing my wounds. That’s how I survived...”

Dragon Tree Buddha spoke with great emotion here, his eyes reddened.

”Ah, so Ancestor Dragon saved you...”

Ye Yun sighed.

Ancestor Dragon, always elusive, suddenly appeared in this Divine Land?

”Seeing my weak power, Lord Ancestor Dragon gifted me an Eight Treasures Delicate Mirror for self-defense. For the next tens of thousands of years, it was all thanks to this mirror that I could evade the pursuit of numerous strong enemies!”

Dragon Tree Buddha spoke slowly.

His gaze fell toward the Eight Treasures Delicate Mirror in Ye Yun’s hand again, gratitude evident in his eyes.

Ye Yun nodded.

He finally understood clearly the origin of the Eight Treasures Delicate Mirror.

”You were originally a great demon, so how did you cultivate into a Purple Buddha?”

Ye Yun asked the second question.

”That’s because I later acquired a strand of purple Buddha light by chance, obtaining its inheritance. Only then did I learn it was a strand of Infinite Buddha Light, originally from Infinite Buddha Land, personally...”

”Uh...”

Dragon Tree Buddha’s eyes suddenly widened, his body stiffened, as if he had seen the most terrifying thing in the world.

”Huh?”

Ye Yun was astonished.

Whoosh!

A strand of purple Buddha light shot up from Dragon Tree Buddha’s head, disappearing into the void.

The speed of the Buddha light was too fast.

Even Ye Yun couldn’t react in time.

Dragon Tree Buddha maintained his stiff stance, standing dumbly like a tree stump opposite Ye Yun.

A few seconds passed.

”What happened? Why did Dragon Tree suddenly flee?”

The voice of the cloth-robed youth suddenly erupted.

He stamped his foot, moving his stiff body, his demeanor showing dissatisfaction.

”He went back...”

Ye Yun looked towards the void direction, his expression gradually turning serious.

That strand of purple light was incredibly fast, rarely seen in his lifetime.

Even if he used the Sword of Death Realm, he couldn’t intercept it.

That implied.

Behind this strand of purple Buddha light, there was a Wushang figure controlling it.

And this figure should be the Infinite Buddha Lord from Infinite Buddha Land.

The escape of the purple light, Ye Yun secretly guessed, was caused by Dragon Tree Buddha uttering Infinite Buddha Lord’s name.

Saying the name naturally activated some kind of prohibition.

Thus allowing this purple light to take Dragon Tree Buddha’s divine sense away from the world of Divine Land and back to Infinite Buddha Land.

”The name-incantation divine skill of Buddhism is indeed inconceivable...”

Ye Yun pondered the records of the Mahamudra Sutra, genuinely admiring it.

The divine skill of name-incantation, when spoken anywhere, can resonate with the corresponding figure of the name.

Such divine might of Buddhism also exists in mythical tales of the world Ye Yun crossed from.

”Recite my name, and all prayers will be answered.”

This sentence indeed has a source; it’s not baseless.

At this moment, far removed from the Divine Land.

In Infinite Buddha Land.

A streak of purple light descended from the sky, entering a magnificent Buddha temple.

The boundless Buddha light paused.

The Infinite Light Buddha Lord, who was preaching Buddhist law, suddenly halted, gazing at the Dragon Tree Buddha below.

Every other Buddha also opened their eyes and looked at Dragon Tree Buddha.

”World Honoured One...”

Dragon Tree Buddha opened his eyes, somewhat fearful as he looked at the Infinite Light Buddha Lord.

Just now, while his divine sense mentioned the World Honoured One’s name in the Divine Land, that strand of purple Buddha light unexpectedly brought the divine sense back into the Buddha body within Infinite Buddha Land.

Obviously, he unknowingly touched upon the World Honoured One’s taboo.

”Dragon Tree, you need not speak, I already understand...”

Infinite Light Buddha Lord spoke softly, calmly saying.

He gazed into the far reaches of the void, eyes radiating layers of Buddha light, for a moment as if crossing countless worlds, ultimately penetrating the steadfast barrier of Divine Land, beholding a white-robed figure.

Infinite Light Buddha Lord could be one hundred percent certain, he absolutely hadn’t personally transmitted the Mahamudra Sutra.

Yet this white-robed youth, in Divine Land, crossed his personal transmission, how did he cultivate it?

A real enigma...
